Well, we are off to DisneyWorld for the next week to enjoy our last breath of summer before everyone goes back to school.

I finally opened the last $500 Disney gift card that we purchased in 2017 during the Amex Sam's Club 20% offer.

Back in 2017, Amex had an insane offer of 20% back on Sam's Club purchases on up to $1250 of spend. We had the offer on 3 cards, so between the Amex 20% and the 5% discount Sam's had and the money back from the credit card it came out to around 27%. So we had around $3700 in Disney gift cards. But then the pandemic hit and we didn't go one year. And then Disney got rid of magical Express and we started staying off Disney property. All in all, the gift cards lasted until now - a whopping 7 years.

Wow! Excellent savings. Have a wonderful trip!

HAVE FUNNNNNN! You haven't been since 2017?! Its so different now. Just as fun if not more.

Your story reminds me that we have old non expire tickets that we bought before 2017. We maybe spent about $5.5-6k on these tickets but they are now worth $8-10k, so I guess we beat inflation. We plan on using some of these tickets in December 2026.

:)

We have been there every year (except the pandemic year) but we now stay off Disney property (at the Hyatt with points) so we don't need as many Disney gift cards. That is how the cards ended up lasting 7 years.

Same. We haven’t stayed on Disney property since they got rid of the Magical Express. I can stay at the Swan or Dolphin on a work discount (or points) for the same (or less) as a moderate and get deluxe benefits and free water. 🤣 For years, we stayed on Disney property because of that bus.

The DealVengers are still looking for peeps to help keep the thread running or another viable option as I'm no longer able to participate. With the holidays coming in fast, it's paramount to have volunteers in place, please reach out to @Liquidice.

Here is the current schedule:
My primary focus is building our homestead in northern Michigan and taking care of the last remaining updates to our current home.

Are you staying at the Hyatt Grand Cypress? How do you like it? I would assume you would have to have a car, right? The resort looks amazing and is an absolute steal with Hyatt points. I just don’t like driving around DW. I’ve been trained that the busses are part of the magic. 🤣

Actually, we are staying at the Hyatt Place Lake Buena Vista on Palm Parkway. I would consider it around equivalent to a Disney Value Resort but the room is almost double the size of the Disney All Star hotels and you also get free breakfast. There is a Walgreens around an 8 minute walk from the hotel and a Winn Dixie around 13 minute walk. We did not bring a car, we just walked to the Winn Dixie with our carry on suitcase (we emptied it at the the hotel) and picked up some bottled water and snacks and wheeled it back to the hotel.

The local Orlando bus, known as the Lynx, stops right outside the hotel. The bus is the Lynx 350, it costs $2, and it runs down Palm Parkway and goes to Disney Springs. From Disney Springs, you can walk 7 minutes to the Springs bus stop at Saratoga Springs resort and catch all the buses to Disney World. Or if you are going to Magic Kingdom, you can transfer at Disney Springs to the Lynx 300 bus which takes you to the Magic Kingdom parking lot (and from there you take the monorail to the park). A lot of Disney cast members take the Lynx bus, in fact, there was a young woman on the bus today with her makeup on (small Disney tattoos on her face, etc.) who was clearly on her way too work.

An interesting tidbit is that Lynx just started a new route, the Lynx 311, which is an express bus from MCO (Orlando Airport) to Disney Springs. As we were getting on the 350 bus tonight on our way back from Epcot, we saw 2 people getting on the bus with full sized suitcases (checked in size). So I asked them if they had just come from the airport and they said yes, they had taken the Lynx 311 to Disney Springs and then were transferring to the Lynx 350 to some hotel on Palm Parkway.

So you can get from the airport to the off Disney Hotels for a total of $2. You can also do it to Disney hotels, but you will have to walk a little since there are 2 different bus stops at Disney Springs, the Lynx buses stop on the West side while the Disney bus stop is in the center of Disney Springs.

To be honest, I'm not sure if the driver would have let them on with full sized suitcases if the bus was crowded but the bus was literally only a quarter full. But if you only have smaller bags like carry on size, i don't think there would be any issue taking the bus. And the trip probably takes just as long as Mears would.

So to reiterate, if you are not in a rush, you can get from the airport to Disney hotels for only $2 using the Lynx buses.

I’ve taken this bus a few times to/from the airport and it’s been empty or only a few people each time. I don’t know how it will stick around if that’s the ongoing ridership but it’s been a *huge* help for doing my budget trips. It also has free wifi so while yes, it’s an hour trip, I work remotely on my laptop the whole way if it’s in work hours. On my last trip I also walked to/from my Disney Springs area hotel/park busses so my only transportation costs for 2 days was the $4 airport rides.

I am thinking of taking the Lynx from the airport next time I go. I will be staying at a hotel in Hotel Blvd, so I am assuming I will have to walk from the West Side bus depot at Disney Springs over there.

It’s really easy to use, and I like the walk (just allow time for DS security if you have a lot of stuff). I believe they are cash only right now though so if you are like me and never carry it anymore don’t forget to pack some singles!

I have a $10 of $75 purchase coupon on my BJ's account today, valid 8/15 - 8/24. It works on Disney gift cards. Looks like Rakuten and RMN are both at 2% today.
I don't have this in my account :( I'll patiently wait and hope it shows up in my account soon! LOL
