Ok here are the details
we are leaving in 14 days, We rented a house in windsor palms made the contract about 5 months ago and had been in contact with the owners a few times no problems.
But I had not heard the final intructions ( directions, how to get the key, who the managment Co. is?) yet. So, on thursday emailed that i needed it ect.. On friday she left a voice mail saying that she had just emailed me the info and that they are going on vacation and would not be able to be reached. I did not get the email with the info.
I have tried to call ,email . I am so very freaked out about this.
I don't know how to get the key , where exactly the house is or the name of the management company is. We have never rented a house before so I am not sure how it works but I am sure this is not right.
how long should I wait before scrambbling to find a different place to stay ?

This is horrible I could just cry.
But I hope hopeing you guys can help please

thank you
Ivy
 :(

It is horrible and I'm not going to be much help to you. Use whatever info you have to try and track down the place, but know that it sounds really suspicious to me. If you are able to cancel payment in any manner, you may want to consider that (did you use a cc? you could maybe have recourse through that channel).

I'd be setting up a back up plan immediately.

Good luck to you. I hope it all works for the best.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I've never rented a home from a private owner before, so others will probably be more helpful. How did you find the owner? Was it through the Windsor Palms Website? I guess I'd backtrack and go from wherever you started to find the management co. If you get nowhere, then hopefully you did pay with a credit card and have recourse as DVC~OKW~96 suggested. In the meantime, I would be looking at options for other places to stay in case it doesn't work out. I know lots of places offer last minute deals.
Wishing you lots of pixie dust! :wizard:

Try checking your junk/spam mail. Sometimes emails get diverted there.

Best of luck to you! Hope it all works out!

Disneyivy,I understand how stressed out you must be about this.
Why don't you go the the Windsor Palms website (www.windsorpalmsresort.com) and e-mail them and see if they can help? Even if you did not reserve the home thru that website maybe if you give them the owners names and explain to them your problem they might be able to help.Hey It's worth a shot. You certainly don't want to go thru the next 2 weeks not knowing.
It is possible the owners were only going away for a week or so?? Maybe they figured since they will be back before you leave that they could e-mail the info to you when they get back from vacation?? It's just another possible scenario....
Good Luck and I hope you hear from them really soon,
Debbie

I did pay via credit card. I was looking through my paper work and I have the street address for the house, so I am sure I could find it. But I still don't know how to get the keys.

I will find the link to the house and post it.

Thank you for all the support

Here's what I see on that webpage:

Owner: Thomas Adams
Type: 4 BR detached pool villa
Location: Wyndham Palms Way
Listing by: http://www.evilla-rentals.com/
Owners of Listing Company: Denis and Katie Le Marchant-Smith
Listing Company's email: info@windso-palms-resort.com

So I would start by contacting Denis & Katie Le Marchant-Smith at the email address listed above. If that doesn't work, check the online White Pages for this last name in Florida. You'll find that there is a residential telephone listing under this agent's name.

Hopefully, your questions will be cleared up soon. :)

I see on the owners' site there is a Guest Book with emails links to previous renters. Why don't you try emailing them? At least you should find out if it's all above board.

I think you can check out credentials on the the website of the County the home is located in. You may need the address, though - ? You may be able to check by owner name.

I have rented a home in Emerald Island Resort from a private owner for next month, it is the first time we have done so in Orlando. The owners sent me a contract in the mail that has the management company's address, phone # and contact person. Our home does not have a key, it is accessed by a keypad and they sent me the code that our family will use while we are renting. I received a contract before making the deposit, after making the final payment received a large check-in packet with directions and address (the confirmation is also how we will gain access to the resort at check-in). Did you ever receive any type of contract from the owner's? As everyone else has suggested, I would e-mail the couple that operates the rental web-site. Also try contacting the Windsor Palms office, they may have some information as to management companies for each property. I hope everything works out for you, good luck.

Here is the address to the house: 2223 Wyndham Palms Way. We rented in Windsor Palms in May and we had to check in with the Management Company upon arrival and get the key to the house. She also gave me a code to the keypad outside the door to the house, which had another key in it. Once you get to Windsor Palms the security guard at the gate will ask for the address to the house and issue you a permit into the neighborhood. He will give you a map and tell you how to get to the house. As others have said, e-mail one of the previous renters from here http://rentors.org/guestbook.cfm?pid=10393 and ask them who the management company is. I would e-mail the last person who stayed there. Looks like May'04. Once you have the Management Company's name call them and assure your reservation is solid and then get directions to their office, check-in time, etc. You will not be able to get in the house without getting the key first. Good luck, keep us posted.

One more thing, is this the e-mail you were contacting the owners with: tadams@crown-esa.com. That is the e-mail address for the owner from the Windsor Palms site. If this is the e-mail address you used, I would feel a little better, but still you need to find out who the Management Company is.

the original site I contacted them through was
http://www.vrbo.com/18842
there are so many it gets confusing.

I did get a rental contract from them sent to me but it has no management Co. listed just the address of the home.

I have emailed the other renters from the guest book no responce yet but I am hopeing/wishing for some.

also no responce from the site owners yet.

how would I get a hold of the windsor palms office I can't find any contact info for them I am hoping for a phone number.

Is oasis a managment Co. or a listing site?

If you click on the HOME tab it tells about them. This is a quote from that page "We are based in Florida and manage all these homes ourselves". So it looks like they manage all the houses they have listed. Keep us posted.

Mudd77--I juts have to say, way to show the DIS spirit! Talk about going above and beyond for a fellow poster!

Congratulations! I hope you have a wonderful vacation. When I read your story I felt compelled to help. I just had my first experience with renting a house (directly from the owner) and it could not have been a more pleasant experience. I will surely be doing it again next year. You will love having the extra space especially in a beautiful place like Windsor Palms. I'm glad I could help you and this again shows how wonderful these boards are! Again have a wonderful and safe vacation. :earsboy:
