Because of work and kids schedules its getting harder to get all of us out there walking. I understand but at times I just wish I could get out there with them instead of running back to work.

Its getting colder out and darker earlier. Having trouble adjusting to that too. Have walked a few times w/my winter coat and hood on.

I made a commitment to myself a few wks ago that until my cruise I would walk 20x's around the gerbil track/day or 140x's/wk however it worked out. Seems Im going to have trouble making that commitment - with or w/out my walking buddies.

Realizing there will be no after work walking after the next 3wks as it will be daylight savings time. So all I'll have is 1/2hr in the morns and wknds when Im busy with DS.

Ok so tell me I can walk by myself and continue this until Nov 6th

You could try the Walk Away the Pounds tapes at home. :) I just got 2 today at Target.

WATP is a great idea, Lisa. I use those too!

You can find a way to exercise, Barbara, with or without your friends. You can find a way. You can do it!

I can do it - I can do it
I know I can - I know I can

Walked 10 this morn and another 20 after work
Had a fantastic day on fitday too

WATP is a great way to get in some exercise in the house. I use to be able to take my son out in the stroller for walks, but now he will not sit he wants to walk. That is not the kind of work out I need. :D So I do WATP and my son, 2 1/2, has the one mile walk memorized. He picks out parts and copies the walkers. It is really cute. Anyway, find some way to keep it going. It is so hard to get started again once you stop! Good luck!

another vote for WATP. Too chilly? Too rainy? Too dark? Friends busy? Can't find your coat? Street too busy? Neighbors too chatty? Doesn't matter with WATP!!

I borrowed some from the library before deciding to buy. You could try that.

Good luck! You've done so well, don't let busy friends stall you!

I was going to say WATP, too. But, walk outdoors as often as you can... there's nothing else like it!! :D

was going to suggest WATP - Leslie sure has a lot of fans here!!

Barb - you are doing this for you and I know you better than to think you'll really just poop out on your committment to be healthy! BUT - it is OK to change your plan when factors change. That's big in your new lifestyle b/c there will always be change happening in your life and you'll be able to take the punches and roll with it; making the changes you need to continue your healthy lifestyle! Now, c'mon you can do this. Think about it and relax, the right choice will come to you.

Do you have a portable CD to listen to music while you walk? Are you a spiritual person, use that time in prayer! We all need time to slow down and walking outdoors helps me do that. In fact, I'll walk with you this morning, say around 10 a.m., I'll be walking the neighborhood with me, myself, and I!

Thank you for posting this. I am concerned with many of the same things. Last year I lost weight only to put every ounce back after Fall and Winter set in. I will not do that this year.

I have tried to get the WATP tapes from our library. They are always out and I haven't put my name on the wait list. I suppose I should. Have you a mall nearby? I wonder about mall walking. There are many around here that do this at all times of the day.

Get out when you can and look for what you can inside. As for preparing to pull in and do things indoors, I have been using treadmill even that I find it absolutely totally boring--even if TV is on. There are many great things suggested already. There is convenience in doing at home indoors. One just has to do. For me that has been the problem.

I find it more difficult to be accountable to me without a friend for support, but I am learning. Now I am recording my daily activitiy along with what I eat and this helps me. I've been posting to the daily exercise check in and find that has allowed me to stay in it because I publically post my activity.

If you don't have someone to do with you. We here will be your buddy. I am always looking for someone to do these things with me. I will work with you!
:teeth:

Do you have time to walk at lunch or during your break at work?
I started taking a 15 minute walk in the afternoon instead of my coffee break. I work in an area that has sidewalks so it is easy for me to do this. When I get home in the evening I walk a half of an hour. With the time change coming soon I will change my longer walk to my lunch break and my 15 minute walk for when I get home. I do have a treadmill, but really prefer being outside.
Hopefully you can get a schedule that will work for you.

I agree with the WATP's. Leslie is always there for you. Rain or shine, early or late. Then when you can get outside, go ahead.

Ok.....here is a question, I have always wondered what you meant by "around the gerbil track"? Do you have a track by your house?

Thanks,
Melanie

We live on the outside of a circle - inside the circle is a field.
(Houses, road, field)
The road going around the circle is almost .2miles
Takes more than 10x's to make 2miles
Cos I walk around this circle over and over and over a friend termed it the gerbil track and I stuck with it

Actually its part of a figure 8 - friend lives on the other circle - that circle doesnt have a field in the middle and is smaller
Yes I could leave the gerbil track and walk the figure 8 but for some reason I dont. I started walking this gerbil track years ago when DS was younger - was able to keep an eye on the house and still walk

we do sometimes venture outside the neighborhood

The visual or trying for a visual has been so much fun! On one of my less imaginitve days I saw a track at a Bally's or other fitness center. It takes 15 x around the Bally's Fitness by me to make a mile. I don't like to go there to run/walk b/c of it, but I have a membership and if desparate I could.

I have a new visual:
