Hello there,
For all of you that have emailed me or posted on the new hotel opening here in Cape Canaveral which is The Residence Inn (Mariott), I had the opportunity to meet the manager who is named Maria Sheldon - I was very impressed with her and she seemed to know all the questions I had in mind to ask so here is the scoop - the opening date has been changed to March 20th - they are offering 150 rooms which are all suites, with fully stocked kitchens (no food tho) with dish washers, washing machine and dryers being available also.
You have complimentary daily hot breakfast buffet and a social hour Monday through Thursday which I told her it should include Friday since I felt Fridays were just as important - anyhow they do have a large pool and jazuzzia (MS)
they do NOT have a shuttle but recommends cocoa beach shuttle (I do not know much about this shuttle company tho I have left a message for someone to call me from there) - you are also offered complimentary high speed internet access. THE BEST PART IS THAT IT LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE KEY WEST SCENERY - the colors, the look WOW it looks a little like the Casa Marina in KW, but of course none of us could afford to stay at the Casa Marine.
Anyhow as I find out more will post and if you have any questions that I can get answered, let me know ok.
anyhow hope that this helps
always
Shirley

wow, i did not know they give you internet also, that is awesome,

HI
Thanks for the report.

How many people can sleep in each room?

Thanks!

Shirley, You are awesome, thanks so much for the info. We are booked there for 2 nights in Nov. before and after our cruise. I will be calling you to make some baskets. You made two for me last Nov. and they were terrific!
Thanks, Teresa from NJ

I was getting a little nervous about booking a room at a hotel that wasn't even open yet (we stay April 28 before 7-Night Eastern) but you have put my mind at ease. Booked this much cheaper than the Radisson and don't need the shuttle since we'll be renting a car to drive from the airport, and turning it in before we board. Thanks for the update - this is one thing I can stop worrying about!

Well, you can still color ME nervous - I've got reservations to stay there on March 24th! Now they're opening on the 20th - wonder what the odds are that they'll change that date again before the 24th?

I've got a backup reservation at another hotel, but I'd much rather stay at the Residence Inn. Hope they make it...:worried:

Okay Stay At Home Dad - you're gonna be responsible for posting a report.

Now here is some pixie dust that all works out okay for you and your trip.

Hi Shirley! Any scoop on the Marriot? Do you know when that is supposed to open or when it opens for reservations? Is it moving along as fast as the Residence Inn?

Thanks Shirley, it sounds great, especially if they have a nice pool area.....
Complimentary breakfast is always nice, and the rates seem reasonable. I can't wait to hear back reports.

Hello all - The Residence is a Mariott - next door is the Country Inn and Suites and they look like they still have a little way to go - The Residence really overpowers everything surrounding them - OMG it is so beautiful but of course I could be partial for it looks so much like part of Key West - if Norm and I didn't live where we do, I would love to stay there one weekend, we have the same scenery except but we do have the ocean and the river and a straight look at the port. You are going to have to be extra careful driving in off Hwy 528 for traffic is now very very difficult especially after 3PM - anyhow as for the Country Inn and Suites, I can NOT find out anything about that place - it really looks so forelorn sitting next to the Residence, but maybe when they finish, it will look more inviting. Since our buddy Dave left to become a long distance driver, he hasn't been able to update his site, but its still useable, but if you need to know anything special, just drop me a note or post a note and I will try to check it out for you - I feel like the Chamber of Commerce but I really do enjoy letting you know what is new and what isn't.
Anyhow everyone up North stay warm and guess what???? WE ARE ON OUR WAY TO WARM WEATHER -----yep supposely we just had our last cold spell.
Anyhow all stay safe and will chat with ya later
Always
Shirley and Norm

We rebooked for a 7 night in 2/2007... so I went onto the Marriott website and tried booking a room for two nights prior to that cruise. I got a rate of $109 for a one bedroom/two queen suite. Never hurts to book early!!!

Thanks for the great info Shirley!! We also have a room booked there pre-cruise in November!! :sunny:

Hi Shirley,

I was told that when I booked my room a few weeks ago that they would have a shuttle but it was $8 a day. Maybe that's the cost for the shuttle company? For some reason I thought it was run by the hotel. I am anxious for an update...thanks for your help. And I hope Norm is recovering well!!

Maria the manager told me the only shuttle service is the one that they recommended which was the Cocoa Beach Shuttle co. and the cost would be $4.00 per person - this company never did call me back so I am going to try and call them back today - I am hoping with so many places to stay here now, that maybe it will bring back reasonable room rates. Who knows.
Anyhow all have a nice day today - the weather is going to be great.
Always
Shirley

How does the pool look here? Is it tropical looking? Large or small?

I'm getting in Friday afternoon and was contemplating here, Ron Jon's, Radisson or the new Sheraton that's a little further up the road.

i also booked for Nov. Hey, $99 for a king 1br suite--can't beat that! I'd be interested in airport shuttle info as well as shuttle info to the port. i booked a car but would prefer to shuttle if it costs less. Thanks for the info

MAPS-Where did you find 99? Shirley I hope you're thinking of our freezing cold rear ends dreaming about warm weather..... We are getting a cruel tease this weekend... my hit 70 degrees, then a cold front is coming back on Tuesday. Winter is long from over in Philly. Have you seen the pool at Res Inn? That' s all my kids care about! Personally, the draw for me is seperate rooms. My dad is tagging along (the world's greatest Pop Pop) and I love him dearly, but he snores like Fred Flintstone!

Good morning all - with a lot of stuff going on, haven't had the chance to check the new motels "going ons" this week - The only thing I know about the pool is that I was told it was BIG and if they are decorating thourghtout the hotel to match the front of the hotel, I will have to say yes to your answer Kaykels - I saw where you folks were still battling the cold - its been just a little cool at night, but that would be Spring to you folks up North - I know our summers really tear a lot of folks up and no I don't mean the hurricanes, I mean the heat - it can be brutal, but I will take it anytime -
Anyhow the hotel is set to open in 10 days so lets see - Airport Shuttles are available here in cape Canaveral but what is the cost don't know tho Bob from Checker Cab should know since he offers shuttle service and he is the one that I recommend as for as service and just plain niceness. The only place that offers shuttles to the ships is Radisson, 4 Points and Quality Suites, but remember they are all sisters so the shuttle still leaves from the Radisson. I have to commend the Radisson for taking the steps to add the shuttle when they first started a long time ago. It is a selling factor - noone else will even consider it - I know cause I have spoke to every hotel/motel here and told personally NOPE!!!!!!!!!! NO SHUTTLE - anyhow just wanted to say good morning and remember it's TGIF for many.
Always
Shirley

A BIG pool is good, I was nearly thinking of booking the RON JON for the pool, but I got a $94 AAA rate for a king studio at the Marriott, and that includes breakfast. I really hope that people who go there soon will post pictures....

it amazes me that the other hotels are not clueing in to the fact that the raddison gets so much business due to the free shuttle! i wish they would clue in and get more shuttles...tht being said, we plan on renting a car with my hubby dropping us off at the port early then returning the car to the rental agency, which then has a shuttle back to port! :thumbsup2
