Update on possibilites of Transformers

The Hobbit won't be a tentpole from next summer though. The first movie comes out this fall/winter and the next one the same time frame in 2013.

Nope. Someone that they have worked with recently that has a hot property they wish to expand upon.

This may be being built to tie in with a tent pole from next summer and may not be using the Spidey ride system.

It has to be Peter Jackson...what property though? He's done King Kong and Tolkien........hmm....

Quite honestly a Lord of the Rings ride would make me pee my pants a little.

But in a good way.

Although I'd rather have a full-scale land than a single ride, but you take what you can get when you're a fan.

Could it be something like Prometheus? No idea really.
I would love something similar to the old Alien Encounter in MK. That's just me though.

It does seem like a lot of new things are happening at once very fast in both parks.

As after thought someone mentioned The Hobit. That could be something cool 'maybe'
It's not The Hobbit. The Tolkien Estate has to grant those rights and Uni has tried.

Right studio, though. Since working on Potter, Universal has gotten cozy with WB for the theme park side and has talked partnership on some films going forward specifically to counter Disney.

WB has talked with Universal about partnering for production for some of their properties as they ramp up production for their DC film universe, including cross promotion to build the brand. Under their licensing agreement with Marvel, they cannot put DC into IOA, but they can insert a presence at USF. This could just be marketing material and there has been some talk of launching a DC show on NBC.

Ooooh. Man of Steel is due out June 14, 2013.

I'd love to see DC Comics create a presence down there. They're under some sort of contractual ties under the Six Flags parks now, right?

No, LOTR needs its own Park, not a land or a single attraction...its too massive for one small thing.

There's no Six Flags in Florida, so the rights are available, though not in Cali for any kind of rides. They will do heavy promotion for Man Of Steel in the parks and in tv. There's some work being done on that right now in preparation.

The biggest deal is Universal possibly partnering on the production of some of the upcoming DC slate of films. WB doesn't want to go it alone when they may put out three DC films in a year with the sketchy recent history beyond Batman.

Now that would be fantastic if Kong was brought back to the Studios! Not the same attraction as Kongfrontation was but something different but just as fun!

oh, be still my heart...........

but, we know that won't happen.

i'm guessing it will be something with a big draw.

when parry hotter stuff comes to the studio in a few years, there will be more than just that to keep peeps at the studios.

i have seen great rides and shows come and go over the years.
UO tries to keep current with movies that appeal to the masses and therefore, they update with new rides over the years.

It's Star Trek...it would be so smart. But then again, no matte rhow fast they work, that would be a huge undertaking to have it done before next summer. I say Transformers since the ride design and layout is already established

Twitter says that 4 cranes are at the site now and steel beams are being being delivered.

Honestly, it could be a Star Trek ride as well. Was just hinted about links to a tentpole next summer coupled with talk about DC promotion and the possibility of Universal sharing some of the burden to put DC characters into the movies. WB and Universal got to work closely in negotiating for the Harry Potter rights since Universal desired to give Wizarding World the look of the films.

It was stressed to me more than once that this show building will be larger than the ones used for Transformers at the other two parks - something like 25% more space than that building. It's going to be tall (obviously).

When it comes to Kong, I've heard in the past that they've considered replacing Disaster! with it, but there are capacity issues with it. They'd have to gut most of the show building and expand it to add a second train to get the capacity they'd want. They don't really want to do the "part of the movies" bits leading up to the train ride, but there's also concern about getting so far away from the "ride the movies" theme behind USF.

I have no ideas on details, but there's the Harry Potter London stuff, they have some ideas about redoing Disaster! (just mentioned), there's some stuff they've worked on to replace Twister, they are looking into a T-2 3D replacement, and there's some concepts floating around about renovating the child area and replacing ET. That goes also with doing something with the Fear Factor theater that ranges from a new show to a new ride building.

They already expect a bump next summer when they push the Despicable Me ride with the new film (and there are apparently some enhancements being prepared to coincide with the release of that film). There's concern over the age of Shrek 4D and a hope that they can possibly do a new film for all the Shrek 4D attractions in the next few years.

And then there's IOA. I have no idea what they're doing there other than "major refresh".

Hmm, replacing Disaster, could that also mean re-theming all of the SF Wharf area?

Also, I hope they don't get rid of E.T. for purely sentimental reasons, and the fact that it's still one of the best Disney-style dark rides they've ever made IMO.

If they did redo or get rid of the rides and shows your talking about is getting rid of alot of the studios and makes no sense and no offense but I don't see them getting rid of those rides and shows

I agree...I rode it Saturday night and it was enjoyable as always.

If I was to make a wild guess about major changes to IOA, I'd say that Toon Lagoon may be the next area to get re-done. Comic strips are losing popularity as newspapers are losing ground.

I wouldn't be surprised if they re-themed it to something else, but not sure what.

I doubt they will get rid of everything, but they have a lot of things that have been concepted. ET is the least likely thing to go away because they prize their Spielberg tie-in.

But it's not getting rid of everything anyways - it's updating things. T2:3D is over 15 years old now and two Terminator films have hit since then. There's a question of relevance.

As classic as Back To The Future is, they replaced it with something that they felt has more relevance now.

Even Twister replaced the old Ghostbusters show.

This isn't a museum, it's a theme park. People did complain when they shut down Kongfrontation as well. But it was replaced by something more enjoyable that is more appealing to general audiences (and will be renovated later in the year in accordance with recent enhancements made at other attractions).

Truth is, I would not be surprised to see Disaster close next year when this new attraction opens in order to bring Kong to USF. There has been talk about basically adapting it into the Disaster building, so they'd have audience participation in filming, etc before getting on the train for the Kong 360 3D experience. The major concern has been its length. It is a short segment on the studio tour, so they either need to build it into a bigger ride, meaning they'd need to generate more material or they need to get Jackson to help them generate some behind the scenes stuff.

The big hiccup on this the past few years has been that Jackson is kind of busy.

As for Twister, I have no idea what they might replace it with, but it's another old attraction.

I agree as well. It is a good family friendly dark ride.

I feel the same way. A question. Prior to Jaws closing if these two were pitted against each other which would you rather have seen close?

If I am honest I would rather Jaws stayed and ET close but now that Jaws is closed I want to hold on to nostalgia.

Out of the 2, I say ET. The Forest smell always brings back memories, and it also is one of the few good rides even kids can enjoy.

The one big advantage I don't think anyone can deny that Disney has over Universal is the number of good attractions which kids can enjoy. I would hate to see something as family friendly and classic as ET go away.
