Would you come see me do stand-up comedy?

  • Are you sure you want to do this?

  • I will come if at ALL possible

  • I'm sure it'll be too late at night for me - but good luck

  • No way, but I can guarantee one or more of my friends will show up

Okay.

For a number of years, I've been considering taking a noncredit class at a local community college.

The 'final exam' is a five minute open mic performance. Each student has to GUARANTEE that at least two paying guests will come to the performance.

It would likely be on a Thursday night, possibly later in the evening, probably on the North Shore, around the middle of May.

Would you be willing to come, or to send friends/acquaintances?

---

Okay. The course is "An introduction to stand-up comedy".

I am prepared to make a fool out of myself.

Now - who's ready to support me? :teeth:

---

Note: if I was able to make this an 'open' poll, that does NOT OBLIGATE any responders to actually show up.

Generally I'm a supportive person. But Thursday night is a school night, so I wouldn't be able to go. Good luck tho!

If we still lived in New Hampshire I honestly would. I love stand up and loves seeing how new people do. I hope you take the class.

I am no where near that area, but I must ask why they require paying people to attend your show. Do they need to cover the cost of the venue?

If I knew you in real life and if you were near me, I would probably go but I wouldn't want to pay. Maybe you can get people to come if you paid their way in?

Thanks for your support! That's why I felt it was important to include as much information about the timing of the 'final' as I have!

Is this at Prince in Saugus?

My husband and I love Comedy:laughing:...and live on the North Shore.
Do you have the day in May?

I wish I lived closer, I would definitely come:thumbsup2

Good for you! I have been told I should do stand-up but I could never do it unless there was a huge call for drunken sarcasm.

The last day of the class is May 13th, so probably that night. Kowloon has a comedy club, too. Unfortunately, both seem to only have (professional) performances on weekends.

I'm going to see if I can get in touch with the instructor and get more information (location, and WHY we need to bring at least two guests) before I register.

For friend who lives near me, I'd go. I'd be a zombie at work the next day, but I think that it would be fun. I'd even be willing to be the butt of her jokes!

I didn't vote. I live nowhere near you. If this was in my area, I might show up for a DISer if it was convenient. If I knew you in "real life", I'd definitely go, no matter how late and how tired I'd be the next day. :)

Sounds like fun!

Aw, thanks! I already have a vague idea of a couple of areas for jokes (unless one of those 'areas' agrees to be one of my guests ;)). It's not quite the same as being the butt of my jokes, truly.

Thursday is choir night but I'd skip it and go support a fellow Dis'er! What's one night of choir at the end of the year? :rotfl: I say go for it! Sounds like it's something you've always wanted to do so ... you'll never know until you try it! Just let us know where and when! :woohoo:

I live 10 minutes from Kowloon...Now thats funny already!:rotfl2:

I live on South Shore but BF lives in Salem, MA.

Would love to support anyone doing Stand-up it is so hard. My DS did stand up at Comedy Connection in Boston until they closed.

Okay, I'm halfway through class; so far, I've disowned one brother for being overly critical, and another will probably disown me after the performance (for being used in one of my jokes, if the joke 'works').

So, here's the scoop: For anyone who wants to come, the show/final 'exam' is

Tuesday, May 18, 2010
8 PM
at the
Oniontown Grill
175 Water Street
Danvers MA 01923

It's $5 per person, with the money going to charity. The instructor advises arriving by 7:45, or by 6 if you want to eat - it's a restaurant, but the 'performances' will be in the adjacent function room.

Directions (for people - like me - with no GPS): 95 north to 128 'east/actually north' to Endicott Street. Left onto Endicott Street. At the end, turn right at the lights onto Water Street. 175 is about a half mile up on your right, just beyond the next set of traffic lights.

If you're coming from a different direction, let me know.

If anyone is seriously considering coming, the instructor would like a preliminary headcount. Whether you're coming or not, I appreciate ALL the support I've gotten here!

Oh, and one more thing: no heckling :)

Thanks!

Ronda

Cool! I'll check with my GF too! Leaving DH home with DS's ... girls night out! I'll let you know!

Gonna mark this in my book. It is real close to BF and a friend is a waitress there. :cool1:

Wish I had seen this post a few weeks ago! How did it go Ronda?
