Update on DH and Iraq

A couple of weeks ago I posted that DH got word he was on a list to be deployed to Iraq with the OR Nat'l Guard. Well, he talked with someone about it last night ( we were tired of waiting around to hear osmething) and he found out that his commander blocked him form being activated with another unit because he wants DH to be available to go with his own unit somewhere this next year. So, no Iraq for DH right now! We know his unit is slated to go "Somewhere" this next year; right now they are slated for Afghanistan, but the rumors persist it may be somewhere else, or sooner rather than later. But for now, he isn't going anywhere until September 2005; and by then my parents should at least be up here in Oregon permanently (they live in CA right now, but have bought a 2nd home up here) so I will have some family support should he have to go then.

Thank you so much everyone, for your kind words and pm's expressing support. It sure meant a lot to me! And prayers to all those families here on the boards who have spouses or family members over there right now.

So glad to hear he's not going for now. I know all about the "blocking" that goes on. That happened to my DH twice last year, so that when he got slated to go on this mission I didn't believe him till he got on the plane last Monday. I've been so stressed these last few days I haven't done anything to include PMing you....sorry, I have been thinking of your family though. These are difficult times we military families are facing. I think its the kids who deserve "combat" medals!!!

Great news! Hopefully by September 2005 things will be greatly improved in Iraq and he won't have to go anywhere. In the meantime, enjoy every minute with him!

I remember Dh's Nat'l Guard years. In one year alone, he was supposed to go to Greece, then Turkey, then back to the Persian Gulf and none of it happened. Two years later he actually did go to Bosnia for 6 mos., but I didn't truly believe it until he got on his plane either. I'm glad your DH isn't going right now and will hope for a safe destination for him when he does deploy. (actually, I hope for you that he doesn't deploy at all-but I know that isn't too likely)
