Hi,

I already booked a one-bedroom BWV standard view (day by day) for November 30 thru December 5; our home resort and our first time 'home'.

Then my husband found out his brother was planning his first trip to WDW (and staying at All Star Sports) so he invited him to come stay with us so means we'd need a 2 bedroom then.

What are my chances at this date of getting a 2 bedroom either standard or preferred??

I know I can find out Monday, but I'm dying to get your opinions now!!!

Thanks in advance!

P.s...do you all charge your families when they come stay with you or do you always treat them? If you do charge them, what do you charge per point? The going rate of $10 or less?

Thanks again!:)

*******UPDATE...NO LUCK.

They did have the Preferred View but no Standard. I went on the waiting list. She thought that I should book the preferred before IT disappeared but I didn't. She had me feeling like it was hopeless. She said there are only 11 standard two-bedrooms so that is why I should take the preferred before it's gone. I'm a little bummed but what are you going to do. I didn't want to spend more points. I'll only stay on the waiting list for about a month probably till my brother-in-law decides to book at the All Stars!

Thanks for all your help anyway.

On Thursday night we booked a 2 br Preferred View at BWV for November 26 through Dec 6 - 10 nites!!! We are thrilled! Good luck with your ressie! :)

When I first called MS on Wednesday this week, I booked a 1BD-rm for 11/29 through 12/6. Later, CAK and I decided to change that to the 2BRM mentioned above. So, I conferenced in MS and we made the ressie. MS told me that for some reason, the BWV isn't booking as fast as they were expecting for that week.

FWIW, it also seemed to me that it was easier to book BWV standard view this year than last year. I'm basing this on my personal experience last week as well as the lack of posts complaining about busy lines and being unable to get standard views. Last year, IIRC, there were quite a few of both kinds of posts.

That said, I still think you are going to have to use the waitlist to get all of your days. But I do think you will get your two bedroom before too long.

We do not charge family members for the accomodations when we invite them along and share a unit (2 bedroom). However, they usually treat us to a meal out or find some other way to say thanks. If someone absolutely insisted and we HAD to charge, I personally wouldn't be comfortable charging anymore than the annual dues for 1/2 of the points required to reserve the unit.

Good luck on Monday!

BWV preferred should be very easy to get (and likely will be very easy to get even if you call a month or two from now). Standard is usually more difficult but by then all refurbishment is supposed to be finished and thus all standards will be available for reserving (in Dec 2002 about 1/3 of the standards were out of service).

Good answer, CarolMN, and I agree. I don't ever feel comfortable charging for those who share my two bedroom. I do, however, make sure that they do something in exchange for the room space, either being responsible for the goodies in the refrigerator, and I give them a list of what I would like in there, or having them take us to dinner or make dinner in the unit. Most of the time everyone seems to be relieved by this--they feel that they are doing their fair share in exchange for the lovely accommodations. Many times I feel that my guests go overboard in thanking us by stocking the frig, making dinner, AND taking us out. My sister messed up her ressie once, and, being Easter week, couldn't get a room for the two nights till her ressie started. She bunked with us, and insisted on paying for ALL our meals for the two days, as a way to thank us. We definitely got the better end of the deal!

As far as charging your guest...it would depend on the guest.

I love this story :) ...my DH's sister and her DH own a summer house in Maine, and they let DH's cousin stay there for a week, no charge, and they were happy to do it. (He's a professional, in his late 40's, divorced, and lives with his MOTHER, who does his laundry, cooks his meals, etc. ) After the week, he stopped at their house (also in Maine) on the way home to CT for the night, and suggested they go out to dinner. They ASSUMED he was treating, considering he just had a free vacation. After dinner, he made no move to pay the bill. I think they finally asked him for his portion of the bill for the meal. Not that I'd ever invite him on vacation, but IF WE DID...you can bet I'd make him pay, and make him pay BIG TIME and UPFRONT! LOL

bumping...

As a PS to my UPDATE above in my original post, should I call them (or will they get angry at me!!) each day about the 2 bedroom standard or should I just wait it out and hope that they call me since I'm on the waiting list???

Thanks again!

I wouldn't call daily to check on the wait list. You might get lucky, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope for it coming through that quickly. Most people who book that far in advance are "planning" to make the trip and will not be cancelling until a little further into the year when their plans change. Your relatives could book the All-Star AND you could stay on the wait list. If it comes through later in the year, your in-laws can cancel their room at All-Star.

That's too bad about being wait-listed. I know I have BCV booked for the same time period, but am hoping to switch at 7- months out. I actually want a preferred view, but know I probably won't get it without waitlisting. My concern is booking day-by day and letting the BCV go day by day. If all the days don't come through, I will be forced to move in the middle of the stay. Did you waitlist day by day, or did you waitlist for the whole time of your stay?

She didn't give me a choice. I did ask what days are not available and can I book those and she thought that was a bad idea. She said I'd be missing the middle of the week so what's the point.

I'm new to this so I didn't know what was the best way to go about this. If I had only known they were coming a week ago!

Meanwhile, they are booked now at All Star Sports for only $414 for 6 nights so we're covered. It's not the end of the world if it never becomes available.

The standard 2 bedrooms were sold out that week at BWV when I called last week. Hence, we went with the 2 bedroom preferred view.

I was on the waiting list for the same week for a 1 or 2 bedroom at BWV, from last May right up until I left for my trip in November with no luck at all. I was on it for both preferred and standard views. I do not think the waiting list will come through, unless you get extremely lucky. You may want to make alternate plans.

Hi beattyfamily,

There is another solution - if they are already booked at ASsp but you want to give them a treat - you could try to book a Standard view studio for them for 45pts (arrive nov 30th - depart dec 5th) - or since they are already staying at a different resort than you - a studio at OKW for 40 pts for the same dates - BWV stdvw 2bdrm would have been 120pts - a 1bdrm + std stvw would be 127pts and a BWV 1bdrm + an OKW std would be 122pts for the same dates listed above - and having spent a few trip at the AS resorts - I know that having the microwave and coffee maker and fridge and larger accomadations makes for a nicer vacation.

As far as charging thats up to you.:D

So no one ever gets a BWV "Home" resort one or two bedroom standard view after the first days they can call? That's very upsetting to me. If I had known it was this hard, I think I would have bought points elsewhere. So people who have points at other DVC resort NEVER stay at BWV one and two bedroom standard views?? That's terrible.

I thought I'd at least had a chance when some people change plans at the 7 month window...

You post is a big bummer for me.

You've hit on probably the one area where I think our Disney salesman really misled us. We were led to believe it's easy to book at the 7-month window. We were also led to believe that it's easy to do trades outside of Disney. I don't know if I would have bought BCV if I had known. I'm not sure that that is the only place I want to stay and it seems harder to get in other places at the 7 month window-especially BWV.

First of all, I don't think it is true that "no one ever gets a BWV "Home" resort one or two bedroom standard view after the first days they can call". I recall several posts that said the waitlist came through for them and they specifically said they were waitlisted for a standard view. Some of the posters did not own BWV and so had to get on the waitlist at the 7 month winodw or later. That said, standard view rooms are only a small percentage of the rooms available at BWV - I've seen estimates that range from 14% - 20%, so we have to expect that they will book quickly.

Secondly, IMHO, the first two weeks of December are just as hard to get at BWV as is the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. If you were going at any other time, I think you would have been able to get the standard view you want even though you didn't try until a week or so after the window opened.

From what you posted, it sounds like the CM you got was not very helpful. (The CM has no way to know what will and will not work and I am quite surprised that she gave an opinion). If you have enough points, my advice is to call back and ask to be waitlisted for the individual days. You can keep the 1 bedroom and All Star reservations until the waitlist works for all the days, or until you have to bank or borrow points.

Good luck! Sorry it didin't work out as you hoped.

Thank you for the advice. I just got off the phone with a MUCH nicer and more helpful girl; Kerry, I believe.

She checked for me and helped me figure it all out so I wouldn't loose any points if I end up cancelling anything in the future. Nov 30, Dec 2 and 3 were available but if I book Nov 30, I'd have to borrow points (my use year is December) and I could loose them if I cancel either reservation so we didn't book Nov 30. That is still waitlisted. I booked Dec 2 and 3 and I waitlisted Dec 1 and 4.

So now, thanks to you, I'm waiting on Nov 30, 1 and 4. 2 down and 3 to go! She also told me I could be called, or I could be confirmed and sent a letter in the mail. I wasn't told that this morning. I chose the confirmation letter...I hope that was the best decision. She said I could also call them once in awhile to see if I got the rooms. I asked if they'd be upset if I did that and she laughed and said NO, that there are too many of them to get upset. I said that maybe I'd call once a week and she said that's fine. I asked what day would be best and she said the end of the week either Thursdays or Fridays.

I feel better now! Thank you again.

Wow, are there really only 11 standard view 2 BRs at BWV? We have points to stay there every other year, although now we won't be there until 2005--We got one last year, the first one off of the elevators, although I called every day at 11 months out.
That sounds like an awful small number!

That's what the MS person told me this morning. I forgot to ask if that was true when I called back this evening!

I wonder if they are still doing any construction work that may be affect the availability of the one and two bedrooms??

There are no dedicated 2 bedrooms at BWV. I wonder how they decide which of the lockoff 1 bedrooms & studios will be 2 bedrooms and which will be booked as separate. There are dedicated 1 bedrooms & studios, I think they book those first. 11 sounds like a low number, with 4 or 5 floors, that would only be 2 or 3 per floor.
