Is this a poem or a book?

I would love a link to it.

Just had to tell my DD that we will have to put our FIV cat to sleep (in terms she would understand). She is upset---but partly b/c he was a kitten (now a year old) and she wants another kitten. So I don't know how much of it is losing a cat or that she just will take any other kitten.

But I would love to have the rainbow bridge just in case.

(he has an infection that just refuses to heal and vet is not optimistic that anything else will work given his compromised immune system).

UPDATE: We took him in before lunch. :(

It took two attempts as the poor little guy somehow kicked out his catheter. We did end up being with him and all is fine with my girls. A friend of ours had a cat euthanized a few months ago b/c of poisoning from antifreeze. So we said that Tiger was going to go play with him now. It was even the same vet so he was familiar with that as well so when my daughter had any questions he knew what she was talking about. Tiger went to sleep peacefully.

I am so sorry to hear this. :grouphug: I do not have Rainbow Bridge, I know Dan Murphy and several other's have it, I bet in no time at all it will be right up here for you.

I was afraid to open this because that poem always makes me cry. And we had to have our 14 year old sheltie put to sleep on Friday.

There are some good children's books dealing with pet loss. The one I can think of off the top of my head is The Tenth Good Thing About Barney I believe by Judith Viorst. link

:grouphug: to you.

's Lisa. It is a wonderful poem, says so much. I do hope all goes well, it is always so hard to say goodbye to a pet...big, little, old, young, furry or not. And rest assured, when time, her little kitty will be there at that bridge with so many others.

I can't read that without crying. I know my beloved dog who passed 20 years ago, is there as we speak, waiting for me.

Just reading this now made me cry remembering all of my cats that have passed on through out the years, and made me hug the ones that are still with me.
So sorry for your loss, it is especially sad when it is a young pet that has not had much of a chance to live yet.

We had our greyhound cremated and buried him the other day (and planted a tree over him in his memory). Anyhow we printed the poem out and I read it to the rest of my family after we buried him...

well she seems to have moved on temporarily until which time we have to take him to the vet to be checked. We have decided to do a drop off situation (not stay around). I don't know if that is bad--but I do not have sitting arrangements and she has made it clear she doesn't wish to see it (I don't blame her). And I am not sure that I can handle it either. She spent the morning petting one of our other kitties (she said she will miss petting the one cat) and I said that all our other kitties will still be here. I did pick up Tiger and showed her the paw. It is swollen more than yesterday and he doens't even want the area touched anymore. Just wanted to show her that he was hurting. Otherwise he is doing okay at the moment.

I read the story and will decide whether to use it or not. I cannot print it out (computer broke so we are all switched around at the moment). We may read it when we get home.

thanks for the good thoughts and kind words.

:grouphug: ! It is so painful to lose a pet! One book that speaks so well to this situation is Cat Heaven, by Cynthia Rylant (she wrote Dog Heaven, too). I love this book because it helps little ones visualize what a "pet heaven" may be like, and is therefore really comforting and soothing. It focuses on the animal being in a better place now, so kids and grownups alike can take comfort. Good luck!
