Update..discounts appeared! How long does it take Orbitz to reflect Disneyland discounts?

As previously mentioned, yes it is exactly that. We just came home from Grand Californian Hotel today. Disney was offering 25% off rooms and cheap tickets had an 18% discount code. I was able to stack the two. It took a few days after Disney announced the discount rate to reflect in the Cheaptickets system, but eventually the advertised rate on Cheaptickets lowered by 25%, and you could still use the code for an additional 18% (which basically just paid for taxes, lol).

I actually had previously booked at full rack rate + the 18% Cheaptickets code, but was able to cancel the old one and rebook at the lower rate.

I believe the number of rooms Cheaptickets will offer is limited though. I think it's often possible to book on Disney's site even when sold out on Cheaptickets.

If you can get the combined discounts...it's a much better deal than what I've noticed through Disney.

For me its semantics that I think are off in this discussion. Disney does not "coordinate" discounts with cheaptickets unless Disneyland has a completely different management structure. It's certainly different than WDW...but not THAT different. All their forecast models and accounting are the same (they are...can't restate that in any other way).

I think cheaptickets and orbitz adjust their promotional pricing to try and stay "one step ahead" of the Disney direct sales. Disney has other things to worry about.

Perhaps I can see more realtime cooperation...IF Disneyland was having trouble booking their rooms. I don't know - is that the case? It seems from corporate press releases and some comments on the boards that they are not having occupancy issues. We suspect WDW is having a small decline...perhaps...but overall numbers are very high...

Are the Disneyland rack rates "hoax pricing"? Like we know WDW's to be? What some refer to as "kohls pricing"...as in Jack the rate up and automatically discount 20-30%?

This is an interesting topic for me...I'm learning.

Based on experience though...I don't see how anaheims overlords would "coordinate" to the level being suggested with orbitz, Expedia, cheaptickets, etc. it's much easier/better to cut them out and book 100% without.

Are those sites "good" or "respected" on the west coast? Because in experience on the east side...if you book using them and not direct you often get the attitude/sneer/shaft.

I just think cheaptickets is doing the discounting on their own to match Disneylands website...but your wallet is happy either way it is. And Disney is happy to have you there buying tshirts...which is how it's ALWAYS been for them.

This is exactly where things stand right now. Disney's discount started on Wednesday. I keep checking Cheaptickets etc. to see if they will be reflecting the new, lower price. I actually booked a room at the DL Hotel using the Disney Visa discount over a week ago, but would love to cancel that for a Cheaptickets discounted room.

And I would be doing the same thing...IF it seems that using cheaptickets doesn't add a hassle...

In past experience - it has. But this might be the "nuance" of California

I see what your saying...

Cheaptickets is changing their price on room blocks they PRE-BOUGHT from Disney in advance.

The reason that you can do what you typed in bold is because Disney has already pre-sold to cheaptickets...they don't own/control those rooms anymore. They're selling out of a different "batch" on Disneyland.com.

That's the crux of this...why you can "stack discounts"...
because Disney is only setting the 20% - or whatever it is - on the rooms they still hold in their inventory for sale...and the wholesalers aren't bound to not tinker with their price in their contract.

I don't consider the DLR resorts to have "hoax pricing". Discounts are too few and far between for that to be the case. When they are offered, it's typically just for Sun-Thurs nights. When I checked just recently, before the discounts were even released, there were a couple nights at DLH I couldn't even get at regular price. (For mid-November during a typically slow-ish) week.

They can get those rates there because there are so few onsite alternatives. And a certain number of people are willing to pay for that.

I agree and this is my sense...

The problem is why would they ever "pass along discounts" to cheaptickets? Makes zero sense. If Disney did not pay to sell their own rooms directly and used cheaptickets as the "official supplier"...then maybe.

They only do discounts...and even more so last minute at Disneyland than the swamp...to fill out leftovers in the system.

Cheaptickets rooms are already sold...if you extend your discount and create a situation where they are selling a "sold" room at 38% off and you are left holding an unsold room at 20%...how in the hell does that help Disney?

It's cheaptickets that are just eating the overhead and bumping the discounts...that's the way hotels and travel work.

Honestly, I had no idea they passed along the discounts at Cheap Tickets. I guess I'm not surprised though since it's so late in the game. I already can't find certain nights at both DLH and PPH to fill out the 5 night stay we want. So at this point I think there are enough "holes" in the schedule they probably have to offer some discounts to sell out what remains.

That's the price they pay for a $250-$480 starting price in the local market...

WDW bookings are 9-15 months out...on average...so I would surmise that Disneyland has to live on the edge of the sword...so to speak...to get to full occupancy.

Just checked Cheaptickets and Orbitz...the Disneyland room discounts are now reflected in their prices. That plus 18% off through Cheaptickets, or 15% off with Orbitz. I will change the title to update.

I've booked through Orbitz many times and it is always for a better deal than directly with WDW - love those extra % off codes on top of the Disney discount! Plus go through Ebates and get even more back ;)

Thank you so much for your update! Instead of 5 nights at DLH and 1 night offsite, I was able to get 3 nights at GCH and 3 nights at DLH for only $70 more total! (Would have just done 6 nights at DLH but Orbitz was sold out our first 3 nights) I'm going to have happy boys!
