As many of you know, I will be graduating from law school in May. :) To celebrate my graduation, DH and I are going to WDW for 10 days before my graduation...I'll graduate the day after we get back from WDW. We were limited to the days when we could go to WDW because DH has finals the week before we go to WDW and then I graduate and start studying for the bar as soon as we get back...or so I thought! :(

My school offers a bar review course which normally starts the Monday after graduation and lasts for 2 months and then we take the bar at the end of July. Well, this year they decide to start the bar review BEFORE graduation! We leave for WDW on May 19th and the bar review starts on the 21st!

I don't know what to do! I'll miss 5 days of the bar review if we go to WDW. It's not mandatory that I go, but it is for my benefit. They do tape the lectures and I would be able to rent them and watch them on my own time (weekends).

I am REALLY looking forward to our trip! I feel like I need a break before I start studying for the bar. There's no way we can push up the trip.

Would it be silly for me to miss 5 days of the bar review to go to WDW?

Skuttle,
I don't know what to say so I'll just congratulate you on graduating from LAW school! You'll make the right decision for you because you know what you need and want the most. If you go to WDW--Have a great, fun and magical time! If you stay for the review, well, there is always after the bar and after things settle down. Good luck. :)

A supremely tough call. I say the bar exams are only once in your life (hopefully) but you can always go to WDW. Only you can judge this situation but I say postpone your trip for the sake of your career.

drat, I knew there was something I forgot to do when I graduated from law school. ;)

studying for and taking the bar are pretty intense. you need some down time before you start.

you WILL be able to catch up on your review materials.

go and enjoy. you've earned it.

Skuttle,

Congratulations! Another lawyer on the DIS!

I graduated from law school in one state and took the bar review course and bar exam in another state. Because my law school ended late and then I celebrated the next week with my family and friends, I ended up missing the first week of bar review. Let me tell you, I wouldn't want to be in those shoes ever again. If you thought first year was stressful, you ain't seen nothing yet. Studying for the bar is completely different than studying for law school. There is so much crammed into two months.

If I were you, I'd be on the fence too. I can understand your need for a break and I love WDW. But unfortunately for us lawyers, graduation is not the end of the road. No license, no job. I hate to say it, but how about going to WDW in August? Most clerkships and associate positions don't start until September.

If you do decide to go to WDW, start doing your 100 daily MBE questions in the spring. Good luck!

Well, I might not be the best person to trust on this type of advice, but I think that if you are certain you can catch up by watching those tapes and not procrastinate when you get back, then go and enjoy yourself at WDW. Sometimes you need a break to be able to focus better when you return, especially if you've been studying hard all these years without a break.

If you didn't mention the tapes, then it would be a different story. I'm a firm believer that class attendance makes a world of difference, but it sounds like you are talking about video tapes (not audio), and if so, I think that as long as you review those tapes as soon as you get back you'll be okay. Esp. since the class is two months, and maybe you could even speak to the instructor beforehand and get an idea of what will be covered those first few days.

Good luck, whatever you decide (and like Buckalew said, you'll probably have time after the bar to go to WDW).

Thanks for the advice so far. :)

Tommorrow I'm going talk to the lady in charge of the bar review and see exactly how many days I'd miss. There are rumors that we won't have bar review the day before graduation, so then I'd only miss 4 days. Also, we get outlines of all the lectures from the bar review course, so I'll also ask if it'll be possible for me to get the outlines ahead of time that way I can at least read the material during our drive to WDW. The lectures are all 4 hours long (one lecture per day on one topic), so if I miss four days I can catch up in a weekend or two.

As you can tell, I'm leaning towards WDW. A few of the girls in law school are getting married and will be on their honeymoon during the first week of bar review because they planned based on all the past years when bar review didn't start until AFTER graduation. I also know a few people who had also planned trips right before graduation. I know marriage is different from just a trip to WDW...but I feel like I'll really need a break.

Ugh...i don't want to make the wrong decision!

DH *might* be able to schedule his classes to where he won't finish late in the week and we could push the trip up a few days...but we won't know that until next month when he schedules. Hopefully DH will get to schedule classes w/ finals early in the week! I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

If you push the trip up that would be best. But if not - you know yourself best - can you buckle down when you get back. If so go relax and come back ready to go.

I think the first avenue I would explore is to move the trip up, if not then I would probably go as planned and try to catch up with the tapes for the 4-5 days that were missed.

Good luck, I hope everything works out. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

I think you should do what is best for you. :) I know, no help. lol

Ack! What a decision... Good luck in whatever you decide (and CONGRATS on your upcoming Graduation!!!)

Geaux Tigers!

I talked to the lady in charge of the bar review today. She said they realized that the date (May 21st) didn't make since so they changed the start date of the bar review to May 27th!! They just didn't get a chance to change the posters yet! :)

So, that means that if DH and I go on our trip as planned, I'll only have to make up one day! The live lecture is from 1-5 in the afternoon and the following morning they show the tape from 8-12! So I'd only have to make up the Tuesday because I could make up the Wednesday on Friday morning (Thursday is graduation)!! YAY! DH and I are still hoping that his finals schedule will work out to where we can move the trip up a couple of days so I don't miss any of it, but if we can't, I think making up one day won't kill me!
