I just started getting emails from different sources that are of an "adult" nature. I know not to open them but what can I do to stop them????

I am not exactly sure how to stop them, but I do know that you should NOT click on the Unsubscribe link. You won't unsubscribe. You will sign yourself up for more emails. These companies just make up random email address all with different numbers at the end. If you click unsubscribe you are confirming that you are a real email address so they will send you more. :sad2:

It is just best to delete them and let it go at that. If you reply then they know that your email has a person associated with it and it is not a dead email address. Set your browser up to make them junk and they will go to the junk email area.

Sheesh, Pembo - if you didn't want the emails, all you had to do was ask me to stop sending them to you........

J/K ;) :teeth:

Yes - whatever you do, DON'T click the unsubscribe link. I did this several years ago - and yes, I knew better but I did it in anger and haste....... :worried: Eventually the emails I receive have trickled down - the "adult content" ones have disappeared completely, as have the gambling ones. Now I contend with the blue pills and stock trading ones.....

Some email systems will allow you to block email addresses or domain names. I never block a specific, complete email address because the entire address changes all the time. However, I do successfully block some domain names that consistently reappear. Of course, this also is only partially successful as they change the name slightly by adding a number at the end or re-doing the spelling. Currently, I'm getting spam from fruit and veggie domains -- dill, cucumber, apple, banana, etc. It never ends because a very small fraction of people actually respond to this trash. *SIGH*

I do get those e-mails (they they really think that I need to enlarge or enhance an organ that I don't even have or that I need viagra for that organ? :rotfl2: --now if I thought it would really enlarge my pretties I might buy it!). I ignore the e-mails, but they don't bother me and I have them go into a bulk mail folder that I empty occasionally. I do have to look at the contents of the folder because sometimes some regular mail gets filtered into the junk folder, but in general it's the junk mail that ends up in there.

Better than it clogging up my inbox and sometimes it's good for a laugh.

They are tricky, aren't they? :rotfl: You know that I'm a cheap date when I think that some of the really tacky ones are funny. And I don't click on them--that's just the title of them.

BTW on the radio yesterday I heard about a man who was on a dating service. He "hit if off" with a Nigerian Women and they planned to meet. He sent her money for air fair and as of yesterday she is 5 days overdue!!! :lmao:

Thanks everyone.

jbdreamer - I love Blue Frog. That's what I was looking for a place to report them.

Pam -- Please stop! ;)

The most effective way is to abandon your email address and try a new one. That will stop the SPAM for a while.

I have one in my inbox today that says that I "never have to pay for sex again". The last time I checked I've never paid for sex and I'm fairly certain my DH of 23 years hasn't ever paid for sex, either! :rotfl: Another one that says, "surprise your wife". Don't think I have a wife. Wouldn't mind if my DH surprised me, however. But if would have to do with making dinner! :rotfl2:

I don't know how much good it does, but I forward more outrageous or multiple copies of spam to spam@uce.gov -- but my email account is set up to display and forward the full header information so they can trace it. If I recognize the domain, I forward the spam to abuse @ domainname . whatever... again, may not do much good, but on a few occasions I've received replies stating that they've terminated email accounts due to spam abuse. Gotta hang on to those little victories.

If you want to take a more proactive approach, I highly suggest the program "I Hate Spam" by sunbelt software. It does a very good job.

But if I do that how will I have a big, uh, nevermind.... :rotfl2:

My suggestion - don't use AOL or Yahoo.

Hard to do because it seems everyone uses these two giants. I use Adelphia and I don't get bombed with spam at all. IMO, I think these two companies sell email addresses to spammers.

Also, make sure you have an alternate email address. Use one for friends and family to contact you and the other you can use for web sites.

Good luck. :thumbsup2
