Unusual Concierge Requests

I was a cat 9d on the WBTA and I had a fruit bowl on arrival and I had treats delivered EVERY DAY :thumbsup2

It seems that this is not normal practice but it made for a very special first cruise :lovestruc

Sounds like you were picked as a family of the week to get the daily deliveries.

Just off the Magic in concierge. No daily treats were delivered. Only the welcome aboard fruit basket, 3 bottles of water, 3 diet Cokes, 3 Sprites, 3 Cokes. Last concierge cruise on the Wonder - we received treats every day, as well as twice a day calls from concierge asking if we needed anything. A little disappointed in concierge service this cruise, never asked if we needed anything, and no treats. We had the boarding reception and the concierge reception, no other complimentary wine/beer/cocktails. Seems that there is a great difference in service depending on the ship, and the concierge you have assigned to you.

As others have suggested, I would definately write DCL a letter to let them know of the service you didn't receive as a concierge guest. There's no excuse for your concierge to not check in with you daily and to not have the daily treats delivered. I also hope that you noted the lack of service on your comment card and dropped it off before leaving the ship.
Alcoholic drinks are only complimentary at the 2 receptions on the Magic/Wonder.

Ha ha - I am just so darned tired this morning...and I should not be posting links! I should go and edit it my post...if I dare! :lmao:

So Tami are you going to request a visit from Chip & Dale?:rotfl:

All kidding aside I hope you have a great cruise in 2013.

Angela, how the heck are you!!?? How was your Club 33 experience? I would LOVE a personal visit from Chip and Dale. Wasnt planning on asking for that tho, lol. I havent thought up any crazy requests yet. Reading this board is a lot of fun to see what people have asked for and received. Also the differences between ships. I booked a dummy on our Panama cruise but when I went to change the ressie to one that worked concierge was less than $300 for the 7 days. So thought we would take the plunge. I can hardly wait.

Hi Tami - We're doing fine. Our Club 33 dinner was a wonderful treat for David's birthday, I wished I would have taken more pictures, but I didn't want to distrub anyone else. We watched the Fantasmic show and Fireworks from the balcony. David enjoyed ordering a drink with his dinner. :goodvibes

How are our awesome Panama cruise neighbors??? We're getting close to going on the Dream with our two nieces in Nov. Wish us luck with a 11 & 6 yr old for a 10 day trip, we're getting out of practice now that we're empty nesters!!!

I agree go for the concierge and have fun! I think you need to get something Chip & Dale related out of this. :thumbsup2

Shoreside concierge for upcoming Wonder cruise --

I emailed them 2-3x after receiving a "Welcome to Concierge Service" email from them after final payment was made. Each time they told me they couldn't help me?!?! I hope the concierge on the ship is better.

I asked for shore excursion info on something

I asked to have our cabin decorated for our arrival

And I asked for Caffeine Free Diet Coke.

Got "no" to everything. :headache:

That sounds very unusual. My DH talked to the shoreside concierge many times before every one of our cruises and they actually know him when he calls now. We had every request honored and taken care of. From getting reservations at Palo for a group of 8 for brunch, dinner and tea to a roll away bed it the cabin. Very rarely said no and they even spent a long time contacting the Wonder and getting me a recipe I wanted after the cruise. I can't say enough good things about shore side concierge.

Excursion info: The team can help you if the, personally have already been on the excursion you are asking about or they can book it for you if you are in your booking window. Otherwise they know what is online for you to see on the DCL site.

Decorating the cabin: This is a purchased package that is available for various occasions. This is not a complementary service, so they cannot help you.

Caffeine free diet coke: If they have it on board they will put it in your cabin. Just ask your concierge when you board. I do know that a friend requested some non-Kellogg's cereals and they were able to get some for his suite.

The shoreside concierge team can help you with many things, but they really have little control over shipboard issues. Some items, such as a rollaway bed or lounge chairs for the verandah, have to be approved by the captain and are not within their powers.

On the other hand, if you want to purchase items for your cabin, such as the decorations, they will gladly arrange it for you. I purchased some gorgeous roses for my wife through them for our Alaska cruise.

Eric, Sue, Lynn and Kristin (as well as Jamira, who is now elsewhere at DCL, and Autumn, who is now on the Dream) have provided excellent service. I am sorry you had difficulty, but non of your issues appear to be within their authority.

WOW!
Shore excursions info--they should be able to provide the official info as well as personal experiences.

Decorations--you purchase these. You can do it on the DCL site, but I don't understand why concierge can't click the buttons for you if you desire.

Caffeine free diet coke--if it is on board, they should be able to put in the request for you (although you may need to repeat it after boarding).

I'd take this as a "If you don't like the first answer, call back...." THey should be able to help! You are paying for the services.

Although they seem like minor issues, I think most of those requests would be a bit of a challenge. I have never seen caffeine-free Diet Coke on Disney's ships. So, are you really asking them to go off the ship and get some for you? I guess I would equate that with asking for Red Bull in my room. It is just a little too problematic. Decorating the room, as people have mentioned, is a service you can order yourself on the website. I would reserve it myself to ensure it is done to my specifications.

I had a similar experience the first time I called the shoreside concierge. It was really disheartening. I called back and spoke with another concierge who went out of his way to turn my experience around. Try calling again, maybe you caught someone having a bad day.

Since they are the older ships they did not plan for a concierge lounge, unfortunately. They do have some events such as a concierge reception with special meet and greets just for concierge guests. If you don't want soda just ask the concierge to switch it out, we did this as we only like some soda and water so he traded out all of our sprites for more water and diet coke. Depending on the length of your cruise you may also get a refill in your fridge. You will love the suite.

Thank you! I hope so. :goodvibes

We never asked about the special seating or other reserved stuff but for things like tea with Alice and the Princess party we were reserved seats by our concierge, since we have a little girl I think he knew we wanted to go. Also we knew ahead of time on this WBTA cruise that Alice would not be at the tea party and so he changed our reservation to the next date when Alice would be there. He explained it to our daughter like this "Alice ate some cake that made her little and she won't be able to come to the party but in a few days she will be big again and then she can have tea with you."

How sweet!

Most unusual concierge request.. hmmm... That would have to be when I requested a large knife. When a startled Lynda asked why, I responded that I wanted to sabrage a bottle of champagne when we were having friends come to our suite one night. While Lynda was unable to provide a large knife, she was able to obtain the service of Shawn, the beverage manager, to come to our suite at 11:00pm to do the honors.

Awesome!! :thumbsup2

Unfortunately decorations is not an option on the website for our cruise (Dec 18 HOliday cruise). I just checked. Will try to call again later and talk to someone else. Worst case, we will do it ourselves when we get there....

I guess the CFDC is a hard request. I have requested it on Princess and RCCL and never had a problem but I guess I can bring it along too. Actually, I can really do everything the concierge should be able to do for me too (like make excursion ressies/changes). But in that case, what is the point of a concierge in the first place?

K

They are not even stocking Splenda on the ships any more....so no CFDC doesn't surprise me. No, the two are not related beyond the issue of being not available.

Do you know if agave nectar is available? Specifically on the Magic?
