Unused tickets

DH and I are going to WDW for our anniversary and staying at BWV. Our adult kids want to join us for a few days so I rented a room at POP for all four of us for a few days before our BWV stay. I included tickets for all of us on this reservation. Because of the current situation, kids won’t know until the last minute if they will be able to join us. (One is in college, which may or may not be virtual, the other works in the hospitality industry) Not worried about the room, but what if they don’t use the tickets? I know the original price paid doesn’t expire, but who can use that. Can I use the value towards upgrading to an AP since I paid for them or do they have to be used by my kids since they were bought for them originally? Thanks!

Since the tickets are part of a package reservation you have a couple of options:

1. if one or more kids drop out of your plans, cancel them off the reservation; if within 30 days of arrival there will probably be a $50 change fee but you would no longer have the extra-adult-fee(s) per night or the extra ticket(s)
2. leave the reservation as-is and keep the kids' tickets for a future trip or towards an AP renewal; an unused ticket can be re-assigned in MDE before it expires, so shift it to you/your DH before expiration (stop by the front-desk to have the extra adult fee removed)

Sorry to hijack your thread OP, but I have a question as well:

Our Canadian rate 5-day base tickets expire December 31, 2020. If we can't go this year, I know we can use the value towards new tickets in the future. Two questions:

1. How would that work for the value of our Canadian rate discount (assuming they don't have that offer in 2021)?
2. Would we still be able to make FPs 60 days in advance (we stay on property) if we had to upgrade our tickets?

We really don’t know what WDW will do with regards to extending expiration dates for special tickets or discounts for next year. In general, a fully-unused ticket can be used to “upgrade” to another. Usually you get the value of the ticket, but I’m not sure how WDW will value the special discount tickets. You would hopefully be able to upgrade via MDE or by phone, in advance if your next trip so you can do FP+.
