Not sure if unupdated is a word... lol

Anyways, we're heading down to Florida at the end of May, and after our time in Disney, we'll be spending 10 days travelling down to the Fort Lauderdale area (via the gulf coast), as well as around Orlando as well. The issue is that our GPS has not been updated for over a year. Will this affect us very much? I'm sure there are lots of new roads, but just looking for experiences and suggestions.

I don't really know. My tomtom one has a map update subscription, so it gets a new map every quarter. I also have their iphone app, and they just pushed a new map update (plus some other neat improvements) in late '09 or early '10 free to all subscribers.

If you're going off property around Orlando, there do seem to be new roads on a regular basis. Unless you're really strapped for cash it is probably worth getting the latest map when you're driving in an unfamiliar area.

My Garmin is the same as pp. You get free updates for the first year after registering but must pay for a subscription after that. It was worth it to us to get the quarterly updates even for local traffic.

I have a garmin as well, nuvi 255, which we bought for our vacation in June last year, not sure of the exact date. I did register it yesterday and it said that there were no free updates. I know the person driving the car does have a good sense of direction but we will need the gps, just hard to tell how much of a difference it will make if we do not update it.
