It's actually really common in the toddler years, Lynn.
DS7 had a thing about textures, and we had the hardest time once he needed to be eating food instead of just milk and baby cereal. He gagged all the time! In fact, he was just complaining about something the other day, and I knew it was because of the texture. I think it was the asparagus, because it's sort of stringy in the stalk, and he absolutely won't touch the point.
My nephew used to just fill his face with fries, and my SIL thought it was funny. She would order him a plate of fries, and let him go at it. Every freakin' time he'd get his mouth too full and gag, and then throw up all over the table. It drove me nuts! Just NOT what you want to see in a restaurant!
