Preschool pick-up today went
almost well. Sooooo close, only not!
When I drove up in front of the building the kids were already sitting on the benches outside, so I waited my turn in line. The teacher will walk the child up to your vehicle and help him/her in and get them buckled. Or if the parent gets out, walk the child to the parent.
When I stepped out there were only 2 children left, and DS3 wasn't paying attention. I told the teacher I was there for DS3, so she called his name, and he looked up. He got this biiiiig grin on his face as she took his hand and started to walk over to me. He screamed, "Mama!" and pulled his hand out of hers and ran toward me. She tried to catch him, and managed to grab him just as I was holding out a hand to hold him back.
She knelt down and put her hands on his shoulders, telling him that he had to walk with her and hold her hand, that it wasn't safe to run away like that, and that he'd scared her. He was looking down at his shoes, and she asked him to look at her, so he did just briefly, then started to cry. He felt soooo bad.
She then let me pick him up, and I tried to cheer him up and also reinforce what the teacher had said, but by then he was howling, and I'm sure didn't hear a word. The teacher said he'd had a really good day, no crying at all (until just then, of course), and that he'd done an art project gluing body parts onto a body shape, and worked with some wooden pegs, and I think done some painting, too. And he really enjoyed the reading time. It's so good to hear that he's doing well, at least in class. I naturally picture him spending the morning with that last look I saw on his face...
So I told him I got the Disney book for him, and he was so excited to try it out! It had a plastic pull-tab to remove, but you had to remove the battery flap to take it out; then inside it says to replace the little temporary battery with 4 AAAs. OK...
Finally get the darn thing all put together, and it DOESN'T WORK.
So we'll go back to Costco tonight or tomorrow to exchange.
