Unpopular Opinions

This is my plan. Can you tell me how big a hassle it is to get a taxi from one of the rows of car rental agencies leading up to the port in PC, and back afterwards? The idea of waiting 45 minutes for a car rental shuttle gives me hives. Also, do you have a taxi company you'd rec? It looks like it's only a few miles so I'm not sure why so many people wait for the shuttles -- unless it takes just as long to wait for a taxi.

The car rental agency will call for you. The last cruise we took a very smart cab driver pulled into Alamo when he saw the line up of people. We grabbed him. Another time we flagged one down that was across the street, but the other times we have had the car agency call. Cabs are plentiful at the port.

I'm so glad we're cruising out of Vancouver the next couple of cruises I won't have to worry about renting a car we can just take a cab. I loved cruising out of San Juan for the same reason. 30 dollar cab ride and you're at the port.

Don't recall if this unpopular opinion has been posted or not - I like the Pirate Menu. And not so much the Pirate Buffet.

Right there with you Shmoo! I love the Pirate Night menu. I hadn't been to the feeding frenzy - um, buffet - before this past cruise, and I wish I'd kept it that way. You'd think people had been kept below deck and given only bread and water for all of the cruise the way people were grabbing and gorging.

Oh gosh....the pirate night buffet was awful! The mob in Cabanas acted like it was the ONLY food ever offered the entire cruise.

Unpopular opinion.....when someone comes on here asking about other cruise lines to save some money and the same posters chime in about how miserable they will be and how much they are going to be nickled and dimed. I love RCCL, but for now I'm paying through the nose for DCL because of my kid's ages. I've only been on one DCL and honestly don't think DCL is worth the upcharge. It was awesome, but not nearly the rainbow dusted magical unicorns prancing down from the pixie heavens that I read about here.

Uh oh! Now THAT is an unpopular opinion!!!
You just have to get your mind right, son.

Agreed. It's actually the only regular dining room menu where I might want more than one appetizer or entree. We've never done the Pirate Buffet--too crazy and not worth the anxiety, in my opinion.

Seems to be an unpopular opinion here, but it would be nice for posters to tell the truth, about what they have and haven't done.

If a person opens a thread and says " recent cruisers" then let recent cruisers answer it, the forum is active enough and people will respond who have done it.

There is a trend in people answering who clearly haven't done it, but will not disclose it to others, we had a number of threads answered that the poster had never actually done.

I might be old fashioned but people go on these threads for vacation planning, so if you haven't been in concierge leave a thread on concierge to people who actually have done it. If there is a question for platinum cruisers maybe allow a platinum cruiser to answer it, and if there is one about Cariocas maybe it would be nice that a person who " actually " has been there answer it.

It's like tripadvisor having reviews completed by people who have never done it, can you trust them?

How would you feel if you ask a question about the Wonder in Alaska and get a person respond who was on another cruise line there? And didn't disclose that, or if the last DCL cruise was ten years ago, it happens right here,

This is not trip advisor and it's not the way discussion boards work. As long as the information is correct, most people do not care where it came from- Google, searching past posts, Scott's DCL blog or from someone's personal experience. Honestly, this seems to bother you more than anyone else on this board and it seems you have made it your personal mission to go after one specific poster and that's wrong. Until a WM or Mod changes the rules and require posters to have experience to post, anyone can contribute to the threads on this board.

My unpopular opinion is that I really don't mind if people want to save seats for a show. I know that sometimes it's hard for little kids or the elderly to sit and wait for a long time, so saving seats is just fine. And even if it's for an able-bodied person, I still don't mind. I like to have a good seat for the show, so I always show up at least 30 mins early, get a drink and relax. :)

Our last cruise was the first time we went to the feeding frenzy. Next time I'll just head back to see King Julian at Skyline instead.

lol - I haven't been back to this thread since it's early days
- Kudos to the pp who is not concerned with trip insurance. We've had to use it twice and would love to be in a position where we could take it or leave it. Count your blessings.
- Unpopular - can't believe how many people take soooo many Disney cruises. There's a big world out there people.
- Unpopular - people who must tell us about Concierge, Cabana, etc. when it's out of context to the discussion. Again, count your blessings, but this time more privately, please.
- Complaining about itineraries and ports - again, there's a big world out there. When I get on a ship, I'm there to unwind and unplug. We could sail around in circles for all I care. When I do Europe, it's not on a cruise with 6-hour port days. But I do look forward to a transatlantic cruise in the future!
- Yes, so disappointed in the desserts on our last cruise. Nothing at breakfast even resembling what I would call a "pastry" - just donuts like you get at the Hampton Inn, etc. And yes, the Oatmeal cookies are better than chocolate chip. The upside is I didn't gain any weight!
- Unpopular - Planning for a future DCL cruise in 3 years when our grandson is 5. Otherwise saving $ by exploring other options on other cruise lines.

I'm probably past unpopular to bordering on grumpy. If so, treat me kindly.

This makes perfect sense to me.

I'm on this board quite a bit along with many of the other forum topics here on the DIS. I can't read every last answer, but I'm not seeing what you are seeing. From what you wrote it sounds like you believe there are a lot of liars and frauds on this board. If that is the case, maybe this isn't the right place for you???

I was underwhelmed by Remy and I don't care for Animators.

I loved Remy but High-Five for Animators (on the Dream). I don't understand the hype and my food was horrible. I did not eat more than 2 bites from each dish.

It's bad when people that have never cruised anything but dcl tell you how bad the other cruise lines are. It really annoys me. I have only cruised Dcl but I always keep an open mind. I love hearing opinions from people that have cruised other lines. I hope to save some money and expand my horizons one day.
