Unofficial HA Rooms ?

Torn between posting this here or on the disABILITIES! Forum, but that seemed more geared toward WDW.

Has anyone ever come across a list of unofficial HA rooms on the Fantasy?

Seems as though there might be rooms that were intended to be HA, but never got the designation, but still have wider doorways for wheelchairs and walk in showers instead of tubs.
For example I found walk-in showers in the reviews of 8682(5E), 8184 (5E or 8A?), 7688 (5E), 7190 (5E), 9670 (5E), 6012 (8A), 6510 (9A), 6512 (8A), but they aren’t listed as HA.

I ask because we have an HA booked already, but it’s an Oceanview and was hoping for a Verandah. I was trying to open up some alternative options, since there are so few HA Verandahs and I don’t need it to be ‘official’ – just to have a wider opening for a wheelchair and a walk in shower.

Was thinking I could stalk the site around the PIF date to see if there are any cancellations in these rooms so I can swap.

Thanks in advance!

How many people do you have in your room?
A lot of times HA rooms are available, but bc we are 4 people, it doesn't show up as available bc of lifeboats etc.
When this is the case I find stalking the website and calling often helps as all it takes is someone cancelling in one of the surrounding rooms sometimes.

We are 3 (2A / 1C).
I don't mind stalking, but was hoping to find a list - outside of what I have already built, that shows all rooms with walk in showers and wider doorways, so at least I know what I am stalking for :-)
We don't need all the other HA features like doorbells, alarms, lower closet bars, etc... My husband uses a wheelchair, but can walk a short distance and so all we really need is doorway clearance to get the ECV in and a shower he can walk in rather than a tub he'd have to climb in.

I'm interested in this as well. Our situation is very similar. My DH has to use an ECV as he can't walk long distances or stand up for a lengthy period of time. Thanks for starting this thread!!

We had 8682 on the dream but it never showed up online- our (fabulous) TA called and got it for us. We were only a party of 2 adults so upper berth/kids club availability was not an issue. Not sure why that's not catagorized as HA bcs it did have the roll in shower and wider doorways.

This thread is about category 8A staterooms, many of which were designed similar to HA but are not designated as such: http://www.disboards.com/threads/dream-fantasy-8a-cabins.2696288/

There are also a few notations on the list in this thread: http://www.disboards.com/threads/dc...pdated-list-of-rooms-needed-1st-post.3194826/

Enjoy your cruise!
We just stayed in 6014 on the Fantasy which is listed as a 8A accessible. All the other 8A's around it
were not listed as accessible. As Lanejudy posted, there are threads listing the special 8A configuration rooms on the Fantasy and Dream. We liked 6014 but it was all the way forward and DH who uses an ECV
prefers mid or aft.

We were in 8184 on the Dream. It is definitely set up to be HA accessible with the roll-in shower and the ramp onto the balcony. We loved it!

We had 8682 which was an unofficial HA room with veranda. the veranda was amazing, HUGE! it was a free upgrade back in 2012.
The room was very big. the shower was a roll in, no tub, only one bathroom and not the usual two part bathroom. I think you would b e very happy with this cabin if you could get it.

Really interesting observations. If you look on the DCL website under deck plans you can clearly see those marked with the wheelchair symbol. The 5e aft cabins are NOT marked, but most certainly are. For example on the October 2015 deck plans 8184 is marked, but 8682 (the opposite corner) is not marked. I know that 8682 is Handicap since I just sailed in that room as a GTY fare. It has the wide door, roll in shower, flashing light notification, call buttons at floor level, roll out balcony, pull down closet racks.

Even more interesting is that if you look online at the deck plans today, neither 8184 nor 8682 is listed as HA. I looked online and found a video of 8682 and it seems like HA, but is missing the grab bars in the shower. That video was from 2012, so may be out of date. Do you remember if their were bars in your shower? Also you mentioned the door 'was' wider than normal - that is something I want to confirm before I attempt to switch from an 'official' HA room. We sailed in a regular room last time with my DH in a wheelchair. He had to get out and walk into the room, as his chair wouldn't fit through the door unless collapsed. This time I am renting him an ECV and want to park it in the room, but concerned I won't be able to get it through a regular door.

when I questioned why 8682 was not a HA room I was told because it was not fitted with the safety bars in the bathroom it could not be listed as HA. If you needed help in the shower or at the toilet then it would not be there. That, apparently, was the only reason.

We were in 9670 on the Fantasy. It has a HUGE verandah! As long as you don't mind aft (we LOVE it) you'll be happy. Yes, the bed is messy. I just jumped on it. :D

I thought I read somewhere there was very little space for your clothing in this room. Is that true and any suggestions of how to deal with that thanks
