I have been going through the 2006 unofficall disney transportation guide to the parks. According to them it takes 16 - 17 minutes to get to downtown disney with a car but 47 - 62 by disney bus. Now I did this trip a couple of time in October and it took about 20 minutes by bus. Has anyone else found that the times given by the book are slightly inaccurate.

The times did seem a bit extreme in the guide, i agree ::yes:: I think what they are trying to give you is worst case scenario if you have just missed a bus, so the time will include journey time plus maximum wait time for the next bus. The actual bus journey time will be far shorter. Hope this helps,

I would say they are quoting worse case assuming you have to wait for a bus at the resort :)
If they quote the quickest time and people don't get where they want to be on time then you can imagine the complaints they would get :)

Time of year, time of day and which resort you are travelling from would make a difference to the travelling times as well. Where some resorts share buses, like the Swan/Dolphin/Beach/Yacht Clubs, it can take quite a while just to get round these resorts dropping people off and picking people up.

Whenever I need to get someplace in WDW at a certain time using Disney transport I always allow plenty of time - at least an hour or even more depending on where we are going :)

bus transportation to and from DTD is notoriously bad....
we once waited an hour for a bus to our resort.......to say we were angry would have to be one of the understatements of the century....

i think that was the last time we didn't rent a car...

Ive never found it that bad, the longest we had to wait from DTD back to Carribean beach was about 20 mins.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reading the book. In the 2006 Guide, I believe we're using average transportation time between destinations. (In previous editions, we'd used a range of best and worst cases.) The number includes time needed for the bus to arrive, plus load, driving, and unload time.

PaulaSB12, was the 20 minutes actual drive time, or does it include waiting for the bus?

Keep in mind that we got these numbers by actually riding the bus system between these destinations multiple times. For the '06 edition, we covered more than 1,700 miles in three months, all on Disney buses.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the clarification Len :)

Keep doing the good work, please .

it depends on the resort....as we stood there we saw that other resorts had multiple buses coming....
i'm trying to remember where we were staying that time, but i can't remember..
i think that we were staying at dixie landings, and we saw several buses go by for the All Star Resorts...or the other way around....

the one hour wait was the worst one, but every time we tried taking the bus to DTD we ended up waiting a very long time....now we rent a car to avoid any of those problems (especially since we like to pop into the waterparks for just an hour or two....getting to the waterparks by bus can also be tiresome)...
