Unofficial Guide "Dumbor Or Die" Plan?

Has anyone tried this? Our children will be ages 5 and 4 (barely) when we visit at the end of January, typically not a busy time. ANY thoughts are welcome!

Alternatively, would you recommend the two-day plan with children? Any tweaks? We think our kids will want to go to Fantasyland and Toon Town on the first day, which is why we are considering the Dumbo Or Die plan.

Is this trip truly about and for the kids? If so, then go for it.

EXCEPT! If the kids are skittish, if they might be a bit weirded out by the dark line for Peter Pan, the darkish scaryish rides (especially Snow White since it has "scary" in the name of the ride) in the rest of Fantasyland (and remember that Toon Town has a roller coaster and the freaky loud twisty turny Roger Rabbit as rides), you really might consider going to bug's land in DCA first. [NOT "it's tough to be a bug"!] The rides inside of bug's land are bright and cheery, you can see all of the ride (or almost all of it) from outside, there's fun happy music, there's Heimlich belching...it's a terrific way to introduce kids to lines and rides and what it's all about.

Bumbershoot, that's a great idea for timid kids or kids that just haven't been to an amusement park in a while. Bug's Land is pretty empty in the mornings, and if you have multiple days, you can do FL the next morning (unless MM is only available on your first day). There is something nostalgic about hitting Dumbo or one of the other classics first, but if the kids haven't been there a few times already, it won't be nostalgic for them.

FWIW PP is down for a refurb from early Jan....

We have used the Unofficial Guide Touring plan and it is fine. But it is just as easy to follow the DISBoards Unofficial plan, which is basically to hit FL on opening. PP would usually be first, but if it is closed when you are there, go Dumbo first, then Alice (Matterhorn is also down), then Toad, then Teacups...

If you are worried about dark rides, and still want to go the FL way, stick with Dumbo, teacups, the carousel, Cassy Jnr, and then storybook canal boats. I'd choose Alice as my dark ride to test them out on! If they don't enjoy them then I would skip Roger Rabbit in Toon Town.

There has been no official Disney announcement, or even reliable speculation that PP will be down in January. I know it could change at any time, but you can only go by what has been confirmed at this time.

But regardless, take a look at the rides on youtube, start wit the least dark and scary (not Toad or Pinocciao or Snow White) and gauge their reactions and go from there. Each child is so different. Mine was riding ToT at 3 and loving it. But every child is different.

Actually there has been... but it is subject to change. So fingers crossed these don't actually end up on the schedule. Tthey aren't all there yet, but then neither is the Small world seasonal refurb.

The unofficial guide touring plans are very efficient. Although you might not need it as it will be off-season at Disney, it never hurts to try. Keep in mind that younger kids can be very unpredictable. If they see something they like, they want to do it NOW, so that could turn out to be a minor problem. Maybe try explaining to them how the touring plans will help you save time in line, and if you miss something at one point, you will do it later. Also, try looking up POVs of the dark rides on youtube to show your kids. Good luck!
