Unofficial Candelight Narrator List

The first time I saw this we saw Phylicia Rashad, who coincidentally is on the official CD. She was awesome. We also saw Marlee Matlin who was good, but not as good as Rashad. Last year I saw a snippet of Gary Sinise from the rear of the theatre (DH said he had seen CP twice and didn't want to waste anothe second on it  ) and I thought he was good as well. Don't know why Phyilicia Rashad doesn't do it anymore. I saw her in 2001.

I've seen a ton of different people in Candlelight and loved pretty much all of them. LeVar Burton was one of my favorites. Last year when I sang the narrarator was Erika Dunlop and she was great...much better than I expected. I really want to go catch Kirk Franklin this year as I love him and the Gospel people. I am very excited about it!

But...I would enjoy his presentation. Baby Jesus, not Mickey...however important he is to all of us on these boards, including my family... :-) is the reason for the Christmas season and it is the story of His birth that is being read and celebrated. So...duh!

We heard Angela Bassett's reading a few years ago...brought me to tears. She was good.

Amen to that!

I saw David Ogden Stiers last year and liked him. I think his voice is so cool for it!

We've been lucky enough to attend the Candlelight Processional for 3 of the last 5 years. We really enjoyed all of them, but LeVar Burton was my personal favorite(and my DH is a big Trekkie). He seemed to balance the inspirational/emotional aspect of the program with a little humor(speaking of his own kids and sharing a bit of himself personally) which I really enjoyed. We also liked Jody Benson(the voice of the Little Mermaid). I could listen to this lady talk all day long...her voice sounds good even if she's not singing! And Robby Benson was good, but not as good as LeVar Burton in my opinion. I'm treating my 3 siblings and their families to a stay at the BWV this Christmas(we arrive on the 19th), and the CP is definitely on my agenda, regardless of who is narrating. I know we will enjoy it.

The night we saw Ben Vereen I thought he was awful. He was almost like making a mockery of the Christmas story with the way he was carrying on. Other people that saw it the same night I did said they thought he was drunk but I don't want to spread rumors that might not be true I just didn't care for his performance. I heard others say they enjoyed him so maybe he was just having an off night but I'm looking forward to having someone else do it if I go this year. I'd love to see Steven Curtis Chapman doing it. I think I'd enjoy Levar Burton too.

Joshua Morrow (12/11-13)
Hal Holbrook (12/14-16)
Steven Curtis Chapman (12/17-19)

I'm really wishing I could be there for Kirk Franklin!!! Okay I have had my tantrum. These are the dates I will be there, who are these people?

I've seen Hal Holbrook do his wonderful show imitating Mark Twain. His voice is fantastic.

I would love to see Steven Curtis Chapman. His Christian songs are phenomonal, his voice is great, and he walks the talk. We don't arrive until the 19th; I'm hoping to be able to hear him if we get to Orlando early enough.

Joshua Morrow plays Nick Newman on Young & the Restless. http://www.angelfire.com/celeb/joshuamorrow/

Hal Holbrook is an older actor who has performed a one-man show about Mark Twain. If you're a West Wing fan, he has been on a few times playing Albie Duncan.

Stephen Curtis Chapman is a Christian music singer/writer and is performing for Night of Joy as well.

When all else fails, try google.

Hal Holbrook was also Julia Sugarbaker's love interest on the show Designing Women. He has a wonderful voice!

Who is Kirk Franklin? That is who will be reading when I'm there.

I don't know who that is, but I don't know who a lot of famous people are...so it maybe someone I see in stuff all the time...

I am so happy that I will get to see Levar Burton again. I saw him a few years ago and he was the best! He was so into the readings and the music. And when he introduced his family including his father who is a WDW employee you could see the love in his face for them.
I saw Jody Benson and she was good but I couldn't get into her reading because of her cute voice. It just seemed strange to see a real person using Ariel's voice. But she did a good job.
I saw Gary Sinese last year and was not impressed. He made quite a few flubs. I was looking forward to seeing him because I have loved him in every movie he has ever made. I guess I expected more because of that. But if he ever wants to dump his wife of many years, I will be standing in the wings waiting. Peggie

EsmereldaX,
Kirk Franklin is a gospel singer. He had a song a few years ago called "Stomp." It was a gospel song but it was played on a lot of Top 40 radio stations.

In 2000, we saw Gary Sinise, and he was wonderful then. We purchased the CD, and love Phylisia Rashad's interpretation, as well. Inlaws saw Gary Sinise last year, and they also liked him. This year looks like we will see Kirk Franklin. I think he will be good!

BTW-not only was Hal Holbrook Julia Sugarbaker's love interest on the show, he is her (Dixie Carter's) real life husband! He was also in The Firm~one of the partners. Neat man.

Last year we saw CP twice, once with the package and once without. Saw David Odgen Stiers do it first-excellent! Really hoping he ends up filling in one of those tba spots. Enjoyed himself, wonderful voice singing along-just seemed happy to be there. We ended up doing CP again on our last night. Sat in the back(no package), but not a problem. Steven Curtis Chapman was not impressive. Just going through the motions most of the show, not even singing along. I don't know his music, but I did know before the show he was Christian singer. Don't know who we'll see in Dec this year, still a tba in our week.

When you get the dinner package, and therefore get the reserved seating area, are the seats not the "best" like fantasmic?

Have there been any changes or additions to the list since it was first posted.

Also, to bump the previous post, what is the seating when you book the package?

we saw Jodi Benson(Ariel) on the december 30, 2002, which was the last night for that year. She was amazing! The whole production is very moving.

When you get the dinner package you are let into the theatre first and I think you can sit pretty much anywhere you like as long as it's not the handicapped seating (unless you need it). If you want a good seat you should still get in line early because it fills up fast and it would be a pity to pay for the dinner package and end up sitting all the way in the back. Don't take it for granted that you have a "reserved" seat. It isn't like Fantasmic where there is a small section reserved just for you. I was surprised when I saw how many people were there with the dinner package. My friend and I went to get in line about 15 minutes ahead of time and thought that would be enough. I was in shock when I saw that the front part of the theatre was almost completely full already and there was a whole line of people still waiting to get in (dinner package people, not stand-by). If my friend did not get special seating because of having a visual impairment who knows where we would have been sitting. Seriously, I'd arrive at least 30 minutes prior to start time if you want seats in the front.
