Unlocking the code mystery

OK, I am pretty new to these boards, but I’ve been reading just about everything that has been posted here over the past few weeks and I think people are getting a little crazy.

What I believe is happening is a combination of things that are leading to confusion, fear and anger.

Here’s what I have been able to piece together:

- There is one or more 40% offer that is being sent to people via e-mail and/or postcard that REQUIRES a Code AND PIN (including the ONLY Room-only deals).
- There is ANOTHER offer that is available to EVERYONE, but is ONLY for packages. This offer is not well understood by all CMs, but it doesn’t require a PIN.
- People are giving Codes to the CMs and they are either 1) PIN codes they are not eligible for; or 2) not recognized by the CM as a general code (my understanding is some reading beyond the promo name is required).
- People are requesting dates that the promo is not valid for OR are requesting a resort that is sold out for the promo. When this happens, they don’t always get a clear reason why from the CM.
- When people can’t get the deal, they post a conspiracy theory and propagate the confusion.

My advice is if you are not having success getting the deal on your own contact a Disney specializing travel agent. Sandy from Instant Impressions (her DIS screen name is InstImpres) helped me out. A TA can help weed through the confusion and get you what you want. They know the right words to use with the CMs to help them find the right offer for you. They also can help you figure out the specific reason you weren’t able to get the discount on your own.

Good luck.

There is some validity to this. I received a message with a travel agent only code that was sent out via email only to AAA offices. I haven't posted it because it's for AAA travel agents only. But it is a 40% discount off the room portion of a package.

There are different codes out there.

Interesting. I wonder if Disney has some codes for 3rd party travel agents, like AAA, so they can apply those to their own clients but without pin and that is what's confusing the CM as to what is general and not general codes.

Canadian guy - Do you know anything else about this? I asked my AAA to get a package price for me 8/26 - 9/1 with room, tickets, and dining. She quoted me the usual 20% off the room that AAA offers during value season. I asked her if she could check my name for codes and she said only if I had a pin. I contacted her about a week ago.

Is this something new? I don't want to nag her, but will call again if it's worth having her check a second time. I only want a value room - it's not a huge savings, but it's a little something.

the problem with that theory is: I have 2 disney travel agents, who were able to book for others one day, not be able to book for me all day yesterday. Also, 2 other people tried for me, using the same info THEY had used (and they knew they had no pincodes attached to them).

No go.

I also find it somewhat telling that not a single DISer has posted that today, they got the rate. It's available till 3/15, so why not?? Also, CRO should have been able to stop the mis-bookings (if that is what they are) before a week went by, but they also could have corrected the CMs and taught them to book it as a general public code (if that is what the codes are). It goes both ways.

That said, I am willing to try the AAA way -- I am a member. If there is a AAA agent willing to run my info and try it, I am game.

actually someone just did get it. Check the board.

Id also like to throw out the theory that perhaps it has to do with the call center that you get when you call.I know for a fact that i got Tampa as my CM was talking about the fact that they had just gotten their first frost and that he had moved to Florida to get away fromt he cold lol. Maybe its one call center that is letting it through.

ITA! Sandy was able to help our family.

I think that people may be less inclined to post that they booked with a code b/c that seems to invite attack and insinuation that you are somehow underhanded and are in danger of having your reservation revoked.

It's not nice and it makes people feel badly and that is a shame.

I wouldn't doubt it. There is a lot of animosity around here...

I tried calling twice and they wouldn't give me the discount. Sandy from Instant Impressions got me into Pop, though, in Sept. at 40% off.:)

I just checked with our Disney travel agent at small world of travel and she said they got an email yesterday about this code thing. She told me every ressie that was taken that does not have a postcard with code and pin will not be valid for that price. Disney is in the process of correcting all of this. She said there would be no exceptions to this.

CM told me that the 40% off postcards and e-mails are part of the year of a million dreams. He said that the dreams were awarded randomly, and are attached to a household. Even if you did not get an e-mail or postcard, you may have been chosen, and they have an indicator for the households which were chosen.

That's strange...I just read on another site that someone just book with "the code":confused3

I received the post card last week,(ok it came in my dh name) I'm almost afraid to call and make my reservations with the way things have been flying around on here. :confused3

This all reminds me of a really bad version of that old "telephone" game...

I'll bet this is the Room-Only reservations that were incorrectly booked without a PIN.

I just called CRO and was again turned down for the 40% off offer, with the CM saying once again that all three codes I gave him, I was not eligible for, because the PIN wasn't attached to my profile. I once again asked to speak to a supervisor and was transferred to guest services. I was told the exact same thing the above poster heard. This guest service CM (Sean) was much nicer than the last one I spoke with and said that they had alot of new CMs on the floor, they were aware that people had apparently booked with codes that were not valid for their households, and that the codes would not be honored, and that Disney is working on the problem.

This is not what I wanted to hear ! dabnab it! I would rather hear that others are still getting the codes, so that maybe I might still have a chance to get one too. I think this is going to be a PR nightmare for Disney--no one is going to be happy (the ones like me who have tried for any date at any resort for over a week now and still been told no or the ones who were able to book it and may lose their great discounts). Personally, I think Disney should just make them a true general public code and allow all of us to book for any of those previously published dates for say the next 72 hours, then cut them off. That way we all get a chance and we're all happy.

I think the problem is the codes you are giving them. They are PIN codes and not general codes (which seems to be unclear to many of the CMs.). As I said in my OP, when all else fails contact a TA.

I contacted my AAA TA earlier this afternoon to ask her about any updates on rates for our trip later this year. She said she does have a 40% off code and will check to see if it works for my dates. She did tell me the code and it is not the same as the codes indicated on that link. We already know we can afford what we've booked so far, so we'll be fine if we don't get a deal, but 40% off would be so sweet!!
