If you eat earlier - like 11:30 for lunch its not bad - I was able to get a seat out front in the French place and people watch any morning. About 2 O'clock it starts to get crazy - also some days places are closed for VIP or whatever reason and that just adds to it.
It was not unusual over my 5 days to not be able to get in anywhere - pizza moon was at capacity more than once.
The German place in Harry potter seemed to be available at most times.
Atlantic at the bar seemed to be a good option.

Yes it was bad - basically everything was down.
So I did 5 days at Epic in a row - I am just working from ny notes here - I need to write up something more detailed.

Sunday 5/4 - Total of 4 hours over the day waiting on minecart and di not ride it was up and down all day - the food was not great at pizza Moon or the German place.

Monday - Line for minecart was estimated at 4 hours and Mario was down at rope drop - was ready to call it quits and refund the rest of my days.

Tuesday - There were several VIP things going on this day - so the smoke house was closed and for some reason Atlantic. That caused everything else to be overpacked and lone lines for food. Again I was going to give up and refund my tickets.

Wednesday - Minecart is down for the entire day. Stardust is down. basically everything was down. I got them to give me a comp day for Thursday - lots of people got refunds - a woman was screaming at the poor guest services woman. I basically sat in Atlantic and had a few drinks - spoke to a few folks doing the same thing and told them to get refunds since nothing was working.

Thursday - Pizza moon pizza was much better - but its still very inconsistent - mine could have been cooked longer - I saw them serve a burnt pizza to the folks next to me who sent it back - and I did see some that looked perfect so lots of issues still. Stardust was down again all day. Fyre Drill for a while as well.

Personally I think adding the additional ticket availability was a mistake - yes they have to test it - but they were not ready and now there are a lot of angry folks - technical rehearsal or not - it was a mess and they know it.

One problem is you added a bunch of people to the pool of guests that have no idea - so they show up at 3PM to ride Ministry and have no idea about the VQ and then they are not happy.

They probably should have closed one day a week just for maintenance - no guarantee that would have helped of course.

That said there were just as many people just happy to be there, but most wont be going back until its working.
I spoke to many passholders and the general consensus was they wont be back till its part of an AP.

The shade was a big problem - but not a lot they can do about it - there are some benches with covers - but not many.
Even after 5 days there I don't have any good advice for it. The majority of the benches - and they need more benches - don't have shade. It's an issue that will not get fixed overnight.

There are a fair number of water dispensers - but not as many as I was expecting - they were also very crowded pretty constantly. Since there is no soda in the harry potter area you have to exit to get water. There is probably a refill fountain somewhere - but I did not see it. I tend to go to the soda machines and get water. Everyone should pick up a small 10 or 12oz water bottle that will fit in a pocket - then you can carry it on most rides and in line. The line for Minecart is partially not covered and I spent a good hour in the sun during a breakdown.

There is also a ridiculous amount of steps - the stone steps in Nintendo concern my as far as someone falling and getting hurt.
When you get off Mario cart and see those steps its very disheartening - just more step

I would agree - its just a tough park to do and its hard to quantify why it seems hotter. I did feel like there were not enough places to just go in cool off like in Diagon Alley for example. You can find shade - but many times I was searching for a place to sit in the shade and could not find one that was not already in use - everyone is looking for shade. There are plenty of bars to go to with shade - but the indoor ones with seating can be crowded and the outdoor ones don't have seats - just standing.

One problem is its not as easy to get back and forth if you want to go back to the hotel - its a hike to the buses and then waiting - 20 minute drive on a good day - so it can be really time consuming. Also getting from citiwalk to Epic was not as easy as I expected either - I went to early entry at IOA each day and then to Epic and its at least 30 minutes between waiting in line and getting to Epic with traffic it was 45 minutes one morning.
Thanks for this thorough report:) I am now very glad we decided to wait til next May to visit. By then, they should have everything in order:) I feel bad for the people that paid for Epic and couldnt' do many of the rides - very frustrating to say the least.

I think it would have been better as just the music without the vocals
Like Bridgerton style? I love how they put modern songs that are just instrumental into that show. It gives an understated background flow. I would agree then that perhaps no vocals is a better way for a more enjoyable overall experience. Modern music people can recognize but not intrusive enough to distract from the surroundings would be good.

so a saw a decent fiddle player with a cool electronic fiddle playing quite a bit over closer to the carousel.
Oh that's interesting. I will say my tastes tend to run to Lindsey Stirling on electronic instruments.

On our cruise about a month ago they flew in for two nights worth of shows Klementina Venci who is a Baltic classical violinist but to be honest neither my husband and I thought the music was our taste. We enjoyed the piano playing (even classical) more than that. But if the fiddler players were more energetic (which is more what Lindsey Stirling is) that would change my opinion. Either way sounds like perhaps adjustments over time on how the ambient music is received would be good.

______________
Did you feel like you needed the ambient music to add to Celestial Park? Like if it didn't have sound would it feel weird?

, any food you've tried out
Check out the Epic Food photos - I tried many things and was very unimpressed - I posted a bunch of photos with comments.

I had been looking forward to many things - its its not cheap - and it was not great.

Either all the influencers are paid shills - or it was better at the beginning since there was so much less volume. I think once they get going it will actually be pretty good.

characters you've (general you) seen
Not as many or as often as I had hoped for.

In Nintendo there was Mario and Luigi as well as Toadstool - not all the characters are there yet during the previews.
Was hoping for Donkey Kong

Over in Monsters - I never say the Bride - but the Invisible man and Igor were there quite a bit and was a lot of fun interactions with them.
I briefly saw a monster hunter in the line at the Burning Blade - but nothing like I have seen in the various videos - but was fun.

I think the best time to go was probably the first week as they new all the influencers would be there and even with them the value was nothing like it was this week. Again that is just my perspective from watching all of Ricks Live Streams the first 5 days compared to what I experienced. I also paid attention to several other streamers and really the only one that really told it the way it is is "the view from the cheap seats" probably why he is not on the invite list.

Lots of characters over in berk and they were a lot of fun - also they had the robot dragon that comes out at set times I think and that was cool. Never saw one of the flying ones in the 5 days - with all the issues they really should have had that out and about.

I saw the show in berk and its not my type of thing - but it was very good - and everything was working.

In HP - so they need something else here - I do not know what.
The show was good - again not really my thing - but its well done and everything was working.
There were some characters walking around - but I am not a big HP fan so did not really interact.

I'd like to see more tables outside for people watching - honestly the best part of the 5 days was sitting at the cafe and people watching. If you get there at 11 or 11:30 its pretty easy to get a good table - but again that sun on the main street can be tough. This may also change when the park opens at 9 - when the park open at 11 they are not heading right to the restaurant

I went to Moonshine and had heard so much good about it. They need more tables for seating outside and honestly they need better drinks. The Lobe killer I had heard so much about was a disappointment so I did not even bother trying anything else. The person that makes the drinks for Universal needs to go in my opinion - too many bitters and syrups. One of the streamers calls him Bitters boy and many of the bartenders are not happy with the drinks. Also they are making everyone in Epic use a jigger - so no free pour. So even very experienced bartenders who have been doing it for years are not thrilled with that.
In general - the specialty drinks at Universal are too sweet and too many syrups. I am a big fan of Tiki and make some complicated drinks and these are just overcomplicated. The Loews hotels are much better for these things.

So I do not know Bridgerton but I know of it. Yes that would be cool - maybe even Post Modern Jukebox style so a 20s style singer and modern songs in 1920s style and 1920s interments. Also stuff like the Bioshock game would be cool - modern music is a retro style.
Did you feel like you needed the ambient music to add to Celestial Park? Like if it didn't have sound would it feel weird?
The music was not helping IMO but it needs something.

I should also mention the fountains were really cool - I miss the fountain at Epcot - and this is much better.

Hmm that's an interesting idea I wouldn't want it to become too congested just because of too many obstacles (since it's the stem of the park) if you're talking about Celestial Park but would agree it'd be nice to have things that pull you to pause and enjoy the ambience for a bit. I bet they could get some good theming seating places though.

That pic that Robo shared of the park bench around the main water feature of Celestial Park I must say my first reaction is I wish it was facing the other way but I imagine it was intentional otherwise people would probably use it as a place to watch the show (that theory is out the window if there are benches along the water feature that face directly towards the water).

This is the photo I was talking about from Robo, can I just say I'm just now noticing how intricate the detail is on this bench!? It's not just a bench they put carved animals on it, like that's seriously opulent looking.

Yeah - so most of these benches have shade - but not all of them and there are also random benches that are just wood benches that don't have shade at all. It is something that might be coming - there is still a lot of work going on. Since there is a ton of seating around the fountain I am guessing that is why these benches face outward. These benches are very nice and look really detailed and cool. They are also very coveted and hard to get it seems. they need a lot more of them - and again probably something that is coming.

I'd like to see more tables outside for people watching
I would like that as people watching is what I do a lot at Universal. I can guess that they didn't want to put in too much seating if that means people aren't actively doing other things. Their existing parks don't have a huge amount of tables. I mean I sat quite a lot either on some random steps (I remember ones near Mummy while watching Blues Brothers) or by garden beds (like out in the sun waiting for my husband to ride VelociCoaster) or over underneath the support part for Discovery Center while waiting for my husband to watch VelociCoaster or on a support beam over by Doctor Doom's Fearfall waiting for my husband to do that ride, etc.

We did people watch at the tables by Jurassic Park River Adventure just outside the splash zone but I know they did more restrictions to that area during covid. It was not as open free for all when we were there last in 2022.

This thread?

If so thanks for pointing that out :)
I had been looking forward to many things - its its not cheap - and it was not great.
Universal has never been about food so not personally a big issue for me but I will say my disappointment here isn't that the food may not be the most stellar but the pricing of the food. For the most part the pricing is skewing higher than I would like whereas their existing parks I feel were more down to earth pricing.
Again that is just my perspective from watching all of Ricks Live Streams the first 5 days compared to what I experienced. I also paid attention to several other streamers and really the only one that really told it the way it is is "the view from the cheap seats" probably why he is not on the invite list.
This is where I say that I don't tend to watch streamers, I hardly watched them years back but I mostly just catch the random video here and there when I search for it, like I searched for a video of the vampire steakhouse. That person had a POV video of the steakhouse and the food. They were the ones to say it was incredibly dark inside but they also felt it was on theme. I can't remember when the video was posted or taken but it did let me know to avoid the steak that was practically mooing back at you.

Streamers (rather than people who just take their own video and uploaded it for fun or share it on FB for fun) can be good for giving POV of the land but regardless of whether they are invited or not they won't have the best perspective, either they are not going to tell more non-positive things, or they may nitpick on things that are so minute it's just not fair, it's much harder to find people who are balanced but vloggers by profession.

But I'm the person who also goes to reviews and zeros in on reading the one to two stars first so I can figure out if it's a defect, user error, or a personal problem with something that I would have no issues with. I don't go to the 5 stars until last.
Lots of characters over in berk and they were a lot of fun
Berk seems to be a land that is giving the most "I'm satisfied with". I'm not a How to Train Your Dragon person but I'm really excited with how everyone talks about the attention to detail.
the specialty drinks at Universal are too sweet and too many syrups.
So this is where I say I don't get alcoholic beverages much at the parks. Primarily because of the heat. It's not a good thing to do to drink too much alcohol when combined with the heat and the sun. However, this is also where I say I'm a beer drinker who does drink other things as well but primarily beer. So for that I have mostly at Universal stuck with beer in Harry Potter, a drink at the pub soaking up the ambience was quite enjoyable.

That said we do like to go to Oga's at DHS and the main complaint there is the drinks are sugary, syrupy and weak. But you're there for the ambience and most don't go there expecting "value for your money". So gleaning off this that's probably how I would have to look at it. The actual drinking of the mixed drinks probably meh at best (similar to Oga's) the ambience might be more what of you're going for, that and the souvenir drinks. ETA: even non-alcoholic at a theme park my expectations is they probably won't be good value for money but the "experience" of drinking it what most will be paying for.

A current trend seems to be bitters and bitter beer in things, that might an explanation for why there's a focus. Then again it's like going to DL/DCA both my husband and I can't stand IPAs and it's CA there's a lot of IPAs around *sigh* story of our lives.
Not as many or as often as I had hoped for.
That's unfortunate. That DISer friend I've spoken about lives for the characters and even on Monday (which she said was a rough day at the parks) she's been very happy with the characters. Many of her photos are of the characters lol. Invisible Man though she's taken several photos of which matches your experience that they seem to be using that character a bit more than I originally thought. I mean I was thinking Invisible Man how are they going to make that work as a prominent character but it's working as far as my opinion is.

I do remember how plentiful the characters were over at Galaxy's Edge in the beginning but ebbed pretty quickly after opening. I also remember Harry Potter having a lot of characters in the beginning but ebbing over the years. I'm sure that's going to be the story for Epic BUT Universal has talked so much talk about the characters most especially for Dark Universe that would be a darn shame to not have that last for long.
The music was not helping IMO but it needs something.

I should also mention the fountains were really cool - I miss the fountain at Epcot - and this is much better.
So the fountains at Epic use the same design as the Bellagio Fountains (which happen to be one of my husband's favorite features of Vegas). The undulation, movements, dancing-like of the water by means of the jet design it uses is mesmerizing IMO. There are a lot of customization that Universal can do to tweak it and keep it fresh so hopefully they do that, an easy, inexpensive overall and less time consuming way of adjusting a feature over the years. Their water night show over at the Studios seemed to be off more than on in terms of showings :upsidedow though I haven't seen the new show since it debuted.

So one thing to note - they have a lot of different beers at different locations - but again not cheap.
I am not sure if they are all part of the same distributer or not - but I was mostly happy with the various selections - but not the prices.

I used to like to spend a few hours in the bar talking with people and hanging out. In the "old" days the beer prices were not as out of hand and lots of locals would come in and hang out. It really not like that anymore. At $13+ for a beer you don't get that - not to say there were not plenty of folks drinking everywhere - but it was not the same feel. It was mostly to complain about there being nothing working.

As soon as you check in, you receive your room keys. Your room will likely not be ready, but that makes no difference as far as early entry - all you need to do is show the room keys for early entry. So drive over in the morning with enough time to get checked in at the hotel, and either leave bags in the car or drop them at luggage services for the day.
We are WDW now and trying to figure out things for tomorrow morning and our preview tickets to EU.

Looks like park opens at 10am. Obviously we want to be in the park before then to try to get virtual line for Battle at the Ministry. We have reservations at Sapphire Falls. So to try to take advantage of early entry, do we go to the hotel around 8:30am and try to check in to see if they will give us a room key? Also, is it easier/quicker to drive over to EU or take the hotel bus over?

They will print your key cards as soon as you check in. Sorry I don't have an answer about the hotel bus.

If the park opens at 10am, and early entry is at 9am, you probably want to aim for checkin before 8:30am. I understand it's about 20min between the "main resort" and Epic. Note if you drive over, you would have to pay for Epic parking too.

If you didn't get an e-mail for online checkin, here's the link:
https://itinerary.alliants.app/itin...cationId=1fc1c442-2af5-47e2-a107-668ebd113ead
You still have to physically go in to get the room keys, but online checkin will let you bypass most of the front desk line.

Personally I'd take the bus over - depending of traffic and such - there is a bus lane for a large part of it and they can bypass the traffic. You just get dropped at the bus stop and go - you not dealing with paying to park and parking lines etc...

umm - I hate to say it but battle at the Ministry is closed May 10th to 16th unless something has changed. you can still walk through the queue and its impressive no doubt, but still disappointing.

Wanted to talk about the early entrance \ park entrance in general.
So one one of the days (as an example) I waited for the bus at Citiwalk at 9:02 (buses from the hotel are most likely more frequent than CitiWalk currently)
I was in line waiting to get in at 9:48 - the line was all the way back to the parking lot - you cant even see the park entrance.
948.jpg

By 9:55 I was here - so it does move smoothly and quickly. I had about 50/50 success with facial recognition - so have you ticket available and ready.
955.jpg

Some comments on the process - so like the other parks - every one gets into the park and then they separate out early entry folks from everyone else - I feel like people who are not early entry should be held back at least 30 minutes so those that do have it can get in. When the park actually open there should also be a AP entrance IMO - but just selfish wishful thinking I know.

Security itself is OK - I did not have as any issues with the metal detector going of as it does randomly at citiwalk for my belt.
One big problem I see - there is very little space between the security checkpoint and the ticket station - so there is a back up and a lot of congestion.
It moves quick but just like at the airport it is a place where I can see theft occurring - especially at full capacity. They tried to get me to go through more than once before my stuff was even close to going into the xray machine - and I wont do that. I stay with my stuff till it goes in the machine.

Facial recognition works really well at Epic but have your ticket ready just in case - I randomly had to scan a ticket.
Once in side - You want to head to the left by Nintendo - there are basically two lines - but that is a bit messy as well.

The line to the left was passholders and general admission people - the right is early entry - sometimes that long line to the left is also hotels guest - but people who know are also going to the right and bypassing that line - so its messy.

At that point everyone goes through the portal to Nintendo - I tried to cut around and skip that and go by the fountain but they do not let you.

One other thing - get your coffee before coming to Epic - that Starbucks is on the right side of the park, its very slow and its packed. There is a smaller walk up Starbucks but that is up near monsters and I did not try that. I think many of the staff here is new so try to cut them some slack, but Id probably avoid it in the morning for now.

I'm ok with not having an ap entrance because the ones at Disney are almost always slower than other lines. I almost never use it.

I used it every day at IOA and it was much better than the main lines - but it always depends on time of day and how busy the park s are. I get up very early so I tend to go to the early park for early entry even if its just to get a coffee and walk around. It did get me in ahead of a lot of folks heading to Hagrids at IOA the one day I bothered to do that.

But yeah - I'm not sure how helpful it would be at Epic and later in the day there is no reason to use it - overall Epic entry is pretty smooth

It’s a stormy morning here in west-central FL and I’ve spent a later breakfast catching up on various Epic discussions… which has done NOTHING to alleviate my excitement to go back soon lol! It also served to bring back some thoughts I had during my preview day that I didn’t add here yet…

In no particular order:

Restrooms. I LOVE a well-themed restroom and Epic has taken that idea to a whole new level! The first ones I visited were in “Paris” and were so impressive (even the soap scent is themed?! Yes, yes it is!), I tried to visit one in each land and was not disappointed, other than being unable to find the one in SNW. Is it weird that that’s near the top of my To-Do list for a return visit?!

Food. I did lunch on the sidewalk cafe of Cafe l’Air de la Sirene and it took me right back to a delightful sidewalk cafe experience in real Paris. Good service, excellent food quality - I had a baguette de dinde with a side salad and that salad tasted like the lettuce has just been picked, it was so fresh. Dinner at Pizza Moon was great, too - Nonnarossa and a Wizard-something ale: the ale was really nice and the pizza was delicious. The decor in Pizza Moon deserves walk-through on its own. I ordered a frozen Butterbeer in Le Gobelet Noir near the end of the night, mostly because staff was begging people to go inside - it was empty but for me and one other table, the AC felt amazing, and the ambiance very on point for a Potter establishment. I’d go back there to eat, for sure.

Spell casting. I borrowed my son’s old, 1st gen interactive wand and had a great time casting spells all around Wizarding Paris. Not all were working, and some were difficult, but the effects were very cool!

Characters. I’m not a meet & greet characters person, but really enjoyed seeing a variety of characters out walking around the lands. Igor, Invisible Man, and a violinist in Darkmoor. Astrid in Berk. Live jazz musicians and the trio of Wizarding schoolgirl in Wizarding Paris. Toothless and Mario/Luigi were stationary with lines to meet, but are positioned in the open, so it’s easy to just see them as you go by, which was nice.

Lockers. A friend who did the TM preview really hyped the facial recognition lockers… I found them lacking. Maybe because I’m very short? Very blonde? Glasses? IDK, but at both Monsters and Hiccup’s, the system struggled to get my picture. They did finally work, but it took a lot longer than just tapping my card would have. I’m now seeing folks say you can use a card instead, so I’ll do that in the future.

Single rider. I opted not to do it for Monsters because the TM said it skips the queue- and the queue was well worth experiencing, both for the story-telling and effects and for the AC. I did SR for Mario Kart and apparently missed a lot of queue, but had no regrets as I basically walked on when the posted wait was 45 minutes. (I watched a video of the queue recently and am still okay with having missed it.) I didn’t do SR on Hiccup’s because the TMs felt it would take longer… it wouldn’t have at the time and the “queue” was nothing of interest. I’m not sure how to gauge when SR is worth it or not at this one.

Drinking water. I mentioned in a reply earlier, but I had no problem finding bottle fillers tor refill my bottle from home. I found them outside most restrooms, but they’re well-themed and you need to really look for some of them. All were filtered, but not all were cold.

Shops. I was so focused on exploring the worlds, I only stepped into a couple shops, mostly for a blast of AC. In retrospect, I wish I’d have gone into more, because the couple I did enter were really well themed and unique! I read someone say they were told “no loitering” at a shop whilst stopping in for an AC break, and that may have been an exaggeration, but… I saw a few folks with very small children clearly not shopping, but using shops as a break spot on my day. Like, sitting on the floor in a corner, obviously resting. It was completely understandable because there’s such a lack of good places to sit a spell in AC without ordering food. I’m interested to see how Epic handles this going forward.

I did like the restrooms, but I felt like they needed more in celestial park - for example there is a restroom that just seems to be two family restrooms. There was more than one occasion I was looking for one outside of the lands in celestial park. It may just be down to finding them as they are somewhat concealed - like the one near blue dragon you sort of had to know it is there. I find it odd they did not go with automatic soap dispensers but have Dyson hand dryers and not a lot of paper towels - the paper towels seem to be for the baby changing station. These are very minor things - but I found odd.

I did not see an option to use a card and I am not 100% sold on them yet to be honest - it worked yes - but I have my concerns.
In one case I took my photo multiple times and the photo was almost all black - when I picked up my bag the photo was fine so may have been the screen or the lighting IDK - but had me a little nervous

I was not really sure what the story was with those and if it was a specific bottle or whatever - I always use the soda machines since its almost always cold and its probably better than Dasani.

Yeah - I am thinking this exactly - so focused on other things I did not do this.

I am a little concerned for the TMs that work outside these shops in Nintendo\DK - that music is going all the time on a loop and they are dancing to it and getting into it - they are going to hear that music in their nightmares - I don't know how they can keep up the energy but its impressive.

Similar for Toad - the character meet and greet spot is in the sun and everyone wants to dance with this character - and its really hot. I don't know how they do it - I know they are there for short times - but the energy is really insane

Were you wearing polarized sunglasses?
No no sun glasses at all. (They asked that about that when I had issues with entry as well)

I think it was just an issue with one of the screens at Monsters lockers - I had retaken the photo and really was really hard to tell it was me it was so dark, but when I went back to get my bag so on the other side of the wall the picture was perfect.

My DD has been there 3 times already and she said that she loves the park and said that once all the bugs are worked out, it will be her favorite park. She also really liked the food that she has had so far and only 1 meal was below average to her. But food is VERY different to everyone, I have learned over the years to not even pay attention to food reviews because I have had meals at places people loved or hated, and to me, some were the complete opposite of their opinion. She really loved the focus on details in the different areas.

Completely agree, I couldn’t give two figs really what others think of food or experiences, it is an individual opinion. I very rarely read others opinions at the best of times.

It will be an amazing park when everything is in place as it should be.
