Is this workable?

Get up early morning to start the day--
Griffith Park
Hollywood
Santa Monica
Carson
DLR

Also any ideas for my boys in Hollywood and Santa Monica? Would this be the entire day? (I have read a lot about Hollywood & really think the boys are going to be BORED quick)....TIA

This is a loaded question. It depends on how long you stay at each location.

I was born here and lived here all my life and I have never been to Hollywood just to go to Hollywood. I've been many many times, but usually for an event.

Griffith Park is a big park with an observatory, train rides, a couple of museums, zoo and some other things. I've never been to the observatory in the day time.

Santa Monica is a big beach city with the pier and promenede. I can see your boys enjoying the beach and pier, but getting quite bored with the promenede.

Carson? Not quite sure what you're planning to do in Carson.

Again, it depends on how long you plan to stay in each area and what day you're planning on doing this. Weekday traffic can add significant time to your day.

Thanks for your time...it will most likely be on a Monday. Right now we plan to land on Saturday and spend the rest of Saturday & Sunday at Universal (split it up since it is a travel day) but I plan to sneak in Sunday night at the Observatory. At Griffith Park on Monday--walk a little, take some pictures, spend time at the train musuem, maybe the zoo. Did I read somewhere that you can walk thru the old zoo? Do they let you take pictures? My boys may think that is cool. I also was just informed by DS that Godzilla has a star in Hollywood so we have to stop there...really? A stop in Carson is for DH--he is a HUGE fan of Emergency 51 from when we were kids. The firehouse from the show is in Carson. (Does that tell you how old we are?) Is Carson a decent area? We may decide to do another beach closer to DL on that portion of our trip instead. I was just thinking if we hit Santa Monica around 4pm that we probably could kill 3 hrs before making the drive to DL. But really that would probably be ambitious! I just do not want to sit in traffic for 2 hours to get to DL. TIA!

Traffic on Mondays is usually the best of all weekdays to travel. Traffic on Friday mornings is also light, but gets heavy as the day goes on. Yes, you can walk through the old zoo. The cages use to be open, but they're now locked. It's kind of creepy cool. Yes, you can take pictures.

I do remember something on the news about Godzilla getting a star. I think it was several years ago. However, the stars to me are no big deal. They're stars with names on them. It's cool to look at the stars as you're walking along the streets. But I know people that come out here to look for a particular stars name and when they get there, it's a let down feeling. So, maybe don't put too much into it and it would probably be cool to act like you stumbled upon it for your boys.

I was also a big fan of Emergency. It's located in an industrial area right off of the 405 freeway. Of course, it's in an older area, but you'll be fine.

Smart thinking of not driving down to DL at 4:00 p.m. I don't think traffic will be that bad. You'll be going against the main flow. Traffic should lighten up by 6:00 and even more by 7:00.

A tip: If you drive in the far left lane out here, make sure you keep up with the car in front of you. If not, you're going to get run over and hopefully nothing worse.

What about La Brea Tar Pits? I'm hoping to take my 5 year old son there this year. Last time I went, I was pregnant with him! :)
