Universal Survey/Lord of the Rings?!?!?!

I was just poking around the Universal website and got a survey pop-up, so I took the bait. Got the LoTR questions. But then they were followed by similar Mickey Mouse questions. "If Mickey Mouse were to be added to any Orlando area theme park, which would be the most appropriate park?" Part of the survey does involve asking if you're aware there's a distinction between Disney parks and Universal parks, so maybe it's a trick question?

Anyhoo, if you're on the Universal Orlando website and are offered a website usability survey, opt to answer their questions and you may have the opportunity to answer their Blue Sky survey as well.

I did my survey this morning. The follow-up questions were about Harry Potter. Some of the bizarre questions were, "would you like to see a HP theme park?" "Where would you like to see this theme park built?" lol

I think a LOTR theme park would be so awesome! Some of us "older" geeks used to play Dungeons & Dragons. That was created right out of Tolkein's world. I would be so much more excited to see a LOTR theme park than the Harry Potter. And we can't wait to see the HP park in 2 weeks. We're also big HP fans, but HP is no where near on the same level as LOTR!!!

How funny! I love Harry Potter but LOTR is the real classic. It was not a children's book ( only The Hobbit was) and would scare the pants off most park visitors if they did it right. How fun though. BTW Tolkein wrote it in the 1940's in Oxford where he was a professor. He discussed it in his favorite pub with his friend and fellow professor C S Lewis ( Chronicles of Narnia). LOTR was studied by English majors in the 1970's.

There's actually a LOTR role playing game that's not affiliated with Dungeons and Dragons and is owned by a different company. I used to play 10-15 years ago.

The PC/Console gaming industry also had a few popular LOTR games released within the past few years. I owned the popular Battle for Middle Earth pc game, and it was a lot of fun!

And I believe that the LOTR movie prequel, The Hobbit, is currently in production.

Looking at the success that renaissance festivals have throughout the country, and I have no doubt that a LOTR theme park would be very successful!

Lord of the Rings fits the literature theme of Islands of Adventure. Cut Jurassic Park in half and place it there.

LOTR actually replaced the original Star Wars trilogy as my favorite of all time. Can't tell you how many times I've watched it, especially trhe first movie. So yeah, I would love to see something added to the parks. As for location, leave Jurassic Park alone OrlandoUnited

To me, The lost Continent is a dying area. All thats left is Sinbad, Mythos and Poseidon, and Poseidon has been a dying attraction ever since they changed storylines 7-8 years ago. I also think the medieval feel of Potter and Middle Earth is somewhat similar. Why not transform the remains of LC to LOTR, I think there could be a very smooth transition between potter and LOTR. The Mythos building could be transformed to gondor, and another landmark could be put where Poseidon is, along with a new attraction.

I'm more of Star Wars fan....But I completely agree in the sense they should leave JP alone. Its my fav part of the park atm.

I have a feeling they have plans to finish the lost continent into HP though. I also don't rly think they have much room for them to do much Lotr in that area. Its been a while since I have seen the area though so maybe they do. But atm I believe there is only two shows in the area and for Lotr they would want to add 3 rides min.

For anyone who is interested, Screamscape has a link for that "Blue Sky Survey." I just did it and it does mention a lot about LOTR! I suggest anyone who is a fan to hop over and fill it out and maybe sometime in the future we can all see a LOTR themed area on a UO 3rd theme park!

LOL. Sorry, this made me chuckle. LOTR is already a classic and has demonstrated "staying power" for over sixty years already, and has plenty of international appeal.

I also believe Harry Potter will become a children's classic and be around for many many many years.

Regarding the movies.... LOTR movies were better than Potter movies, IMO. But it doesn't matter--they can build the lands for both worlds and they'll remain relevant, because the BOOKS for both series are not fads.

My vote goes to C&CF too.

I'm not into Harry Potter, but I'm looking forward to taking my DS & his GF (who's obsessed with HP) to see the new land. We would go to UO anyway. HP Land is just a bonus for them. I will say I know a lot of HP fans.

LOTR, OTOH, is very different. My Sci-fi loving BIL is the only LOTR fan I know. I realize it has many fan. I just don't happen to know any of them. It seems to me that HP Land & LOTR Land/Park would attract a similar demographic. (Excluding the young HP fans who wouldn't be that familiar with LOTR.) I can't see how that would bring in that many more people. You'd think they would try to appeal to a variety of demographics, when expanding the parks. As long as they add rides, I don't care what the theme is. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

My oldest DS is the biggest LOTR fan I know, he's loved it since he was 4!
And we are know getting him into reading the books, when I showed him this thread, he just got the biggest grin

I would consider it too. My biggest problem with Universal having a LOTR park as well as a HP park is that I might never leave.

I agree wholeheartedly. I enjoy all three franchises to varying degrees.
