Which Universal Studios rides would be too intense for elementary-age kids? Revenge of the Mummy, Back to the Future, Fear Factor? Anything else?

For sure, we are avoiding the Dracula ride.

I am working on our touring plan and want to know what to take out. Thanks.

Jurassic Park too, if they can't handle the 80 foot drop.

I think she means the House of Horrors ride. I think some parts of the backlot tour are a bit scary, like when you see King Kong, or see Jaws eat the diver. Also, Backdraft also could be scary. You stand in a room, and there's lots of fire and explosions.

We just visited USH in May 07,the House of Horrors is a walk thru typical Haunted House type set, Very scary for youngsters. My 7 year old loved Jurrasic Park but as was stated above there is a very steep 80 foot drop at the end. We didn't do Mummy DS's didn't want anthing to do with it.
We did see Fear Factor, it's a show not a ride and DS'S were fine with that.
The back lot tour our 5 year old didn't Like the dark parts of the tour at all, such as King Kong and the earthquake in the subway demo. Previous visit kept us out of Backdraft, they didn't like it at all, Loud plus lots of Fire and Heat. They did like the show Water World, it was great to watch all the special effects they use.
I would say most of USH is up to the child and what they are up for.

I think it really depends on the child.
My DS is 8 & he really enjoyed Jurassic Park (the 2 times we rode it were not enough for him! lol), the tram tour, Back Draft, Water World, Special Effects Stage, basically everything we went on/saw. He & I went on the Mummy together....once on that one was enough for both of us.
My DD is 6 & she was "okay" with Jurassic Park (drop was a little much), was okay with most of the Special Effects Stage & she liked Water World. She did not like Back Draft at all (the heat & the flames were a little too intense for her), parts of the tram tour scared her & she didn't want any part if the Mummy so she didn't try that one out.

My youngest daughter was 7 yrs old and went on everything and nothing was "too scary" for her other than she was a bit afraid of the heat from the "earthquake" on the tram (there is explosions and fire) because it was really hot near her. Otherwise, definitely depends on the individual chjld.

When my daughter was younger the ONLY ride that scared her was Jaws. She's 14 now and still remembers being terrified on that ride a few years ago. I agree though that it depends on the individual. Have a fun trip!

Thanks for your input. Didn't think about Backdraft. And didn't know about that drop in Jurassic Park. Now I'm scared, too. :lmao:

That drop isn't sooo bad! I'm not a roller coaster rider really and don't like big drops. But it wasn't that bad. Yes it's about 30 feet taller then Splash Mountain but it goes by so fast, and I really didn't feel that funny sensation in my tummy. Overall it's the 2nd best ride in the park next to the Mummy.

Thanks for the assurance. That makes me feel better... a little...

well I just rode jurassic park and I had scred of roller coaster but the big drop didn't bother me at all. It is over before you know it and when the shock got over me of thinking I might fall out I was ok. I loved buying the picture in the end and seeing our expressions going down, that was well worth the price in admission.

i brought my little kids with me back in '05 (they were 2 and 4), they loved the tram tour and the jurassic park ride. the haunted house (back then it was Van Helsing) was too much, they got in the queue and wanted to leave. they were too young to ride the mummy, my then-10 year old loved it, we rode it 5 times in a row (park was empty!!). the little ones did pretty much everything except the mummy ride and haunted house.

but as an adult, i highly recommend the mummy...it was awesome, i can't wait to ride next week!!
