Universal Studios Message Board "Chat"

Anyone else online who wants to chat? :)

Post about anything Universal Studios related. Or IOA.

We're going to be at US/IOA Sept. 26-29th. I'm bringing a "newbie", my niece who will turn 12 the week before the trip. What are the must do's and see's for her? She has just recently decided she likes coasters, so I'm sure we'll be doing that. We've been to US/IOA many times, but never with a child this age. Also along for the ride will be my dd, 3. She soooo wants to ride MIB, but still has one inch to go before she's tall enough. I hope she makes it!
Great thread by the way. We just bought the "buy a year, get a year free" annual passes today, so maybe we'll see you quite a bit for a while!

Hey! Anyone there? I'm back from a grueling day of work and am a bachelorette tonight. Who wants to entertain me?

Barry, remember when kids actually had to WALK to a bus stop, and weren't picked up and dropped off door-to-door? (Common here, and I'm always the shlephead stuck behind the buses when I'm in a hurry!).

Tiger Lilly, I got slammed on the Community Board. Don't ever let anyone know you told a friend you'd rather not be in her wedding, but enjoy it as a guest instead.

Cheers, folks!

Yeah, I'd love to meet fellow board members :)

Anyway, 12 years old ( almost... :) )...at US/IOA...

MUST DOS:
Ghostbusters Show (I know, I know...kids like it, teens like it, she's in between. It's 12 minutes long and so it's not too long for her.), does she like animals? She may like the Animal Planet Live show. Jimmy Neutron and Shrek 4D...and MIB.

Of course take her on the roller coasters at IOA...front row of the dragons is awesome. I had never tried it before this year and it's neat because NOTHING is in front of you to block your view. Really neat!

Of course Spiderman, and she may like Dr. Doom's Fear Fall if she likes rollercoasters.

LOL!!!!!

Anyway, I don't walk to the bus stop...my mom drops me off at it. :)

And I think Barry would willingly entertain you. ;)

Congrats! I always watch my post # but keep missing whenever I hit the hundred mark. And look how far I've gone... :p

AlexandNessa - I think that is awesome that you were truthful about the wedding - it is better than suffering through it!

And yes, I had quite a walk to my bus stop - at least a mile. Now, the bus will pick my kids up right at my driveway!

And Barry must be quite a bit older than us - I certainly don't remember walking barefoot!! LOL

Guess what? My co-worker Fred is just back from Universal. He stayed at the RPR and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it! But, I found it unusual that he said he liked Universal Studios better than IOA.

He's a roller coaster buff, so I asked him why he would say that. He loved the Hulk (and Spidey, BTW, though not a coaster). But, he hated Dueling Dragons because he felt knocked around and was sore afterwards, and he said that IOA was more for little kids. I found this TOTALLY odd (of course, this is the man who takes off his shoes at work and walks around in his stocking-ed feet all day).

What do you think? Is he in Bizarro World?

Me neither! Do you remember Zips? (Or did it have 2 Ps, Zipps?) Weren't they the COOLEST sneakers. Hope that's not just a NJ thing. I was SO convinced I ran faster in those.

lol!! I just think he likes to tease me :p because I'm so young.

But Barry, how can you stand to walk around a park with artificial feet? I mean, obviously if you walked in the snow barefoot for long distances, you would have gotten frostbite...naturally... ;)

I don't remember Zips - sorry. Nikes were the big thing in NH - I wanted a purple pair with a lilac swoosh. I got hand me down blue with white stripes!!

Also, that is weird about your co-worker. There are lots of things at IOA for kids (my kids loved the curious george water place and suess landing), but I think it is geared more toward older kids and young adults (or ate least under 45 adults). I love the theming at that place - Port of Entry is Awesome!! I'm a little bummed to hear about Dueling Dragons - had anyone else been sore after? I hate roller coaster that rattle your brain. I loved the Hulk, but didn't get to go on DD - waited with my little one while DH went with 8 year old DS (who also liked the Hulk better than DD).

TigerLilly, my aunt lives in Greenfield, NH, near Petersboro. Maybe we are kindred spirits!

Wow, how cool is that? I think we definately are :D

Who are you going on your next trip with? If it is your BF, tell me all the romantic and fun stuff you will do. I really can't imagine being in Florida with just my husband, it is going to be a blast!!

Yes, I'm going with BF. We made a deal some time ago: No more Christmas and birthday presents, just trips! We were so hard pressed to come up with ideas, and we were spending a fortune on each other anyway. We can't wait for our trip, though I can't imagine HRH is more romantic than RPR.

Last year he took me to Disney for my 30th. In March we went on a cruise with his sister and brother-in-law (whom I absolutely ADORE!!) and had a great time. Now it's just us for UO/HRH. For his 35th, he gets a cruise too along with his sister and BIL who are so AWESOME!! They live in Maine, and we visit them every chance we get! Can you tell we're an unmarried, professional couple with no kids?

I think the idea of trips instead of presents is great. We are thinking of doing the same - you spend so much on presents, but really, as adults, you just buy what you need anyway.

Where do sister and BIL live in Maine. We go to Maine quite often. We are less than 40 minutes from the border. My parents have a summer home up in Wells, and our whole big family goes to Old Orchard every labor day.

By the way HRH could definately be romantic, and for sure will be fun. We really liked lounging by the pool, drinking tropical drinks - it was very relaxing - and we had to keep our eyes on our little ones! But still, it was romantic and peaceful - till someone had an "accident" in the pool!! It was a riot. The pool was cleared in about 2 second and the lifeguards, bartenders, waitresses, and every other staff member possible, came around to look at the "accident". Complete with walkie talkies, pointing, and much discussion. It seemed no one knew what to do, and no one wanted that particular job! LOL

LOL at the "accident" story! They live in Kennebunk, and unless we're driving up in the middle of the night, we stop at the NH Liquor Outlet (or whatever it's called) on I-95 N, about 30 minutes or so till you get into Maine. We're headed there Sept. 4! If I remember the I-95 signs, Wells is not too far from there.

One of our favorite restaurants is Poor Richard's Tavern in Ogunquit. And in Kennebunk/port Stripers, and Cape Arundel, and the White Barn... Maine has awesome sea food, doesn't it?

Where's Barry?!

I bet you literally drive right past us - that outlet is about 20 minutes from our house. Gotta get your liquor in NH! I'm always shocked when I travel to a different state and try to buy alcohol. In CT you can't buy it at the gas stations, you have to go to package stores. Also, other states have weird things like you can't buy alcohol on Sundays! They drape sheets over the beer isles on Sudays. That is just weird to me. In NH, it is Live Free or Die - for real!!

Yes, where is Barry? I hope I didn't offend him - I really don't think he is older than us. Unfortunately, I bet he is younger:eek:
