does anybody know if the Trunked radio system at Universal is encrypted or not?

According to one of the radio frequency is pages they are encrypted. It is possible with all of the radio changes that have been mandated in the last few years it is possible that USF is now a digital non encrypted.

I can't go by any of the web sites because they all say something different. I guess I'll have to experiment

I do know that they completely changed to a different kind of radio about a year ago. I have used them but don't know enough about Radios to tell the difference. A few years back there was a webpage that published the radio transmissions from Disney and Universal but from what I understand that is not possible anymore. I don't know why you would want to listen. The transmissions are boring--things like which bathroom needs cleaning or code words for lightning in the area. Nothing is super secret since guests can often hear the radio when a nearby team member is carrying one. The super secret stuff is said over the phone not the radio. If it is something a guest shouldn't hear they just say "Can you 56 me at 4-1234?" Which means call me at this phone number to discuss an issue. The reason that the phone number only has 5 digits is because they are in-house numbers that all start with the same 2 digits.

Disney now uses Nextel as their 2 way radio with the exception of Reedy Creek FD which is digital radio. Which is why you can no longer find WDW frequencies.

Close.... USED to use Nextel.

The Nextel IDEN network went dark on July 1st, so Disney just recently moved to a new system.

There are some details (including pictures of the Monorails with their new Radio Antennas) on a thread in the Unplugged forum
