On the bottom of my HRH confirmation it says "Resort self-parking is available at the rate of $6 per day per car"

Now - not to sound stupid, but does this mean that they charge you to park at the resorts while staying there? I find it hard to beleive that the prices they are charging for their hotels that would make you pay to park?

If we arrive on Sunday and check-in and check out on Tuesday will I be charged $18.00 for parking? How do they collect that fee?

Thanks,

I too think it's ridiculous with what they charge for a night at their hotels. However, it is what it is. $6 per night is what I was told. If you stay 2 nights it will be $12. Some people have gotten away with not being charged, but I know I won't be one of them.

We were not charged for self-parking at Portofino Bay over Labor Day weekend. I was prepared to pay $6 per day and assumed it would be on our bill. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find they had not charged us.

Just lucky I guess!

I've stayed at both the Portofino and Hard Rock and both times I was charged for parking. They just add it to your bill.

I agree the fee seems petty but the Universal hotels tend to have better discount availability than the Disney deluxe hotels. I stayed at PBH for $150/ night (EB rate). Even with codes GF and POLY are never that low. I also suspect the fee reduces the number of non-guests parking there and using the pool or using the hotel parking to avoid the parking fees at the park.

Okay, I agree it's very petty to charge a fee for parking as a guest. and I know it is what it is, other cities do and so on. But I don't have to like it. But my biggest gripe is that when you just want to go to one of the resorts for dinner you still have to pay, no grace period nada! Frankly I don't see how they can afford this. I have had many friends and people from other boards complain about the parking fee & how they won't dine at a Universal resort because of this. Another thing is that if you are staying onsite and want to drive over to another resort you are charged again! just plain stupid business sense IMH.

I think it stinks too. The general parking fee is now $8.00!!
After six though at general parking, I think it's FREE. You can take a water taxi to the hotels for dining, or walk. I think they should give hotel guests free parking, or a pass.

I realize that, but I wouldn't do it. When I go out to eat, I want to pull up to the restaurant & park. Especially if I were dressed nice, I wouldn't want to walk all the way from the parking lot to the boat ramp. I guess it's thier loss. I do my share of staying onsite so they are still getting thier money from me, but I know many they aren't getting it from.
