Universal plots 'extreme' horrors

Universal Orlando is in the thick of planning for Halloween Horror Nights, and one of the attractions likely this year is an "extreme" horror house that you must be 18 years old -- and willing to sign a waiver -- to enter.

At least that's the buzz along the old fright network. A company insider confirmed -- nervously -- that there was something along those lines "in the works."

No word on exactly what this horror-to-the-nth degree will entail or if, as some Web sites suggest, it will require an additional entry fee. One site said the stout of heart will wear a harness while the floor drops from beneath them -- and that's before they spend some time in a casket.

Other preview nuggets: This year's HHN will include a haunted "ghost ship," based on the movie of the same name. And there'll be a new mascot to replace last year's creepy Caretaker, who is on his way to the bone yard.

The first HHN in 1991 was known as "fright nights" and lasted three days, compared with this year's three-week run. The big draws early on were the Rat Lady, a gal who got cozy with her namesake pals, and the Roach Wrangler, a biker guy who kissed a palmetto bug during his job interview.

# BOO, PART TWO. Speaking of auditions, Universal is hiring now for some of the 1,100 slots it expects to fill for this year's Halloween Horror Nights. That's a healthy bump from the 900 positions last year.

To say that the company owns Halloween, at least among the theme parks, is a bit of an understatement: This gig has become so popular that insiders claim the big nights draw upward of 40,000 people.

This sounds interesting. I'm not sure if I can make it to this year's HHN, though. :(

This sounds so cool ~ We already have our tickets.

I hope it isn't true:( I am taking two teenagers who have been to two previous HHN's and they wouldn't be happy (nor would I!) if they were excluded from one:rolleyes:

Just to clarify - its just one house that will be 18+, not the entire event. There will be plenty of things to keep your teenagers busy ! :)

PS minniespal > we have our tickets too !!!!! I've never been so happy to see the mailman ! I think he thought I was going to pounce on him!!LOL

Thanks :D

I guess if it turns out to bo true it won't be too bad missing only one 'house'

Glad to help ! I would hate for you guys to miss out on the entire event thinking it was 18+ and your kids couldn't go.
The more the merrier !!!!
:D

I am definatly excited about the extreme house idea. I have been going to hhn every year from the start and this sounds like it will take the experience to a whole new level. I would like to see hhn back at the studios again though, or at least alternate between the two parks or something. I miss the feel of the studios and all of the extra shows, the parade, and the space of the walkways there.

HHN might go back to the Studios next year, or they can start flip-flopping between the two. For now, it's staying at IOA.

And I heard that the scareactors can actually touch you in this "extreme house". This may or may not be true...
