Universal Lockers story

Ok, so I know it's not a Disney park, but when I do WDW, I do the Universal parks too. So this is the first time I've been to Universal since they've put this whole locker system in. You know how they say you can't ride certain rides with bags so you get a locker free for the first hour? Which is funny cus I've riden some of those rides with bags before with no problems, but I can see it for the rollercoasters. If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, basically they take a fingerprint scan and assign you a locker and you use your fingerprint to retrieve your stuff again. Well, right off the bat I had to try 3 times to get a locker cus they make you scan your finger twice, but when you place your finger on the pad a second time it often reads differently if your finger is resting on it in a slightly different way. Well I did this system many times through the course of my two days there and always remembered my locker number and all that and didn't have problems getting my stuff back other than having to re-scan my finger sometimes. I even started to help people use the machines who were having troubles. So the last time I do it, I go to retrieve my stuff and I couldn't remember my locker number. I did the number I thought it was at the machine I thought it was, but it wouldn't work (take in mind for the ride I was on there were 12 seperate machines of lockers I could have used with I think 50 lockers per machine). I had done this so many times before, why was I spacing now? Perhaps it was the few drinks I had :P. I went and tracked down a guy working there to come help me. He went through locker after locker and we could not find my stuff. So by this point I'm thinking perhaps someone stole my stuff. We went to the other machines and tried them and didn't find anything. In the midst of this a girl comes up to him and tells him that she just tried to rent a locker and it opened up a locker with someone's stuff in it and there was a nice camera in there and everything and she just thought he should know that they weren't working properly and she could have just stolen someone's stuff. So now I'm convinced my stuff is stolen, but the guy just shrugs it off and tells me that someone didn't use the lockers properly and it was their fault. The guy still hadn't checked all the machines yet, but I could tell he was getting annoyed. He eventually told me that I need to come back an hour after close time when they've gone through all the lockers. This was going to be at 8pm and my ride was leaving at 6:30pm so this was no good. Now two women come up and tell him their stuff is missing as well. He begins looking for their stuff, leaving me just standing there. Then he goes off and does something else (I have no idea what). The 2 women and I (mind you they barely spoke English) were freaking out at this point. Luckily a woman who worked there came over and started to help and they found my stuff finally after an hour of looking! I hope the other 2 women got their stuff, but I didn't stick around to find out. I was too panicked to ride any more rides after that. So just a recommendation, bring a pen and some paper if you go to Universal and write down your locker number! I honestly didn't think I'd forget, but alcohol and remembering are not always a good combination.

That was scary.
Most of the time I remember the number of the locker that I had used before. So, it was kind of difficult at times. But later on I decided to write it down.

*wishes to ride the Mummy right now*

When using the lockers back in early December in front of "The Mummy", a CM was helping a person who couldn't open their locker.

The CM accessed a special menu on the touchscreen and then the person scanned their finger..well, the locker that opened up was two over from the one they thought was theirs and yes it had their bags in it.

It helps to remember your locker number... :D

I had the same problem and I was completely sober! I found that I was moving my stuff so often (I don't want to leave my camera or my money in a locker when a great picture opportunity comes up across the park!). I got to the point where I was very frustrated - I can at least find a lock that looks familiar.

My son works at the Mummy and he told me the reason that happens. Many times, people will just pull on doors until they find a door that opens. Then they shove their stuff in and lock the locker. Since they didn't actually rent the locker, the computer thinks it is empty and so when someone goes to rent a locker, that locker number pops up for their use. They open the locker and see someone elses stuff there.

Or, someone will end a locker rental, get their stuff, then leave w/o re-locking the locker. The lockers automatically re-lock after a few seconds, so commonly someone will find one that hasn't locked yet and throw their stuff in. Since they didn't use the rental point, the computer thinks the locker is empty and then assigns the locker to someone else.

Only a small percent of locker problems are because of the computer.

The only time we used the US lockers was the AP preview of The Mummy. And what a pain it was. We must have spent 10 minutes trying to get into one.
I have learned to carry NOTHING into US.
We also noticed on the Mummy ride last Sunday inconsistency between allowing guests to wear fanny packs or not. Many were turned away and told to use the lockers. But many obviously weren't stopped that were coming in from the single riders line.
During the AP preview I was wearing a plastic FLAT FP type pouch that I wore across my chest. (It was the blue Passporter flat pouch, in case anyone has one.) All that was in it was my dr lic and PAP. I had to chack that even.
Now I just use my pants pockets.

Large hip packs = no no. If it interferes with the lap restraint (large hip packs, large purses), it goes to a locker. If it has any risk of becoming a projectile (purses, cameras, video cameras), it goes to a locker. If it's a small/medium hip pack, it's acceptable.

How do these people think they are going to get their stuff out?

Yeah I know, which is ironic seeing how we are talking about lockers and the biggest problem is the fact people forget to log in.

Don't you think it's time to announce to the board your big news. Only T-10X and I know the news.

They think that they can just go back to the locker and open it, or they can go to the computer and open it by putting in their locker number. Then you get the ever (in)famous "Bad Scan".

Has it got something to do with momof3disneyholics? It is very suspicious, this logging off/loggin on thing. ;)

:rotfl: Good point!

What I thought was funny is that he is constantly reminding me to log him out before I post and then HE'S the one that forgets!
