Universal Horror Night

OK so I need opinions on this. Is it very scarey or not? I enjoy horror movies but do get a little freaked out with some such as Saw. I don't like scarey rides and I'm not 100% sure there is much point in me going to this but I wanted some honest opinions of just how scarey this is.

We went last year for our first visit and the HHN was one of the highlights of our trip. Me, DH and our son who was 13 at the time thought we might spend a few hours there, however we were there from the start right through till it finished. It was opening night for this event and the atmosphere was fantastic. We spent a lot of time riding The Mummy as there was practically no queue so straight back on again over and over.
As for scary, well you do get frights with guys with pretend (obviously) chainsaws chasing you and people jumping out on you but it is tremendous fun. The shows were excellent. Bill and Ted was the highlight for us as it was so funny, but equally Jacks carnival of carnage was a great show, very funny.
We`re fortunate to be going back to Orlando again this year and HHN is a definate for us. We didn`t get to see many of the haunted houses last year as we didn`t have the express pass so hopefully we will see more this year. There`s so much to see all around the park not just rides, like street entertainers with a twist
I would say go, you will absolutely love it as it`s more fun than anything else, the shows and atmosphere make it a really great night and we can`t wait to go back this year.

This will be my fifth straight HHN and I never miss it. If you don't really like scary rides or "in your face" scares, you might want to sit this out. The houses are brilliantly themed but the scareactors do get very close to the patrons in order for the effect to work. Some of the houses can be very gory...like something you would see in the movie "Saw". Outside...there are scareactors who patrol different areas of the park looking for people who scare easily...they are easy targets. Wait and check out the website whenever it's online this summer...maybe that will help you make your decision.

DH doesn't get scared, but they ALWAYS scare the bejesus out of me (not like it's hard anyway)

I scream really loud, I run, I laugh, I cry.

I didn't go last year and have no clue if we're going this year because someone still has wedding debt to pay off

Very good comments by metro.I think if you did it 1time you will be hooked like us.Last year was the 1st time my DD17-DS14 went with us.In the begining they were very afraid.After a couple of houses they were loving it.I donn't scare easy but leatherface got me good.

I've been going since 1992,basically best Halloween event ANYWHERE,very themed haunted houses,scareactors running all over the place, some with chainsaws scaring unsuspecting people.Cool shows like Bill and Ted's which is a must every year since they basically make fun of everything going on that year.Negatives are that it gets more crowded every year,I would suggest doing a non-peak night early in October to try and avoid huge lines,although they do offer the express pass for a price.I always go on non-peak nights and never buy the express and am able to do all the houses and shows by staying at the stay and scream area inside the park after the park closes for the day.They usually let you out of the area before the official opening time and you can do 2-3 of the 8 houses before the heavy crowds start coming in.As far as if it's scary,yes I'm sure many people do get pretty freaked out in the haunted houses.

I'd call it the scariest "planned" thing, possibly, that will ever happen to you if you get scared easily.

Many houses have, darkness, strobe lights, bright flashes that blind you for a few seconds, loud noises, things that shoot air, chainsaws, and lots of scareactors inside.

(Also, sometimes the people going to these events are scarier than the ones in the houses)

If you're extremely sheltered, maybe. HHN can be scary. It wouldn't be any fun if it weren't. But it isn't going to kill you.

So maybe I'm sheltered a bit ...but it was horrible...DH walked around and not one scareactor came near him...I, on the other hand, was a magnet for them...one got so close I felt his hot breath on my ear

i've gone to enough haunted houses to know that the actors can pick out the scaredy cats/screamers & tend to alert the rest of the house that fresh meat is coming their way

it's okay to express yourself , i expect to scream like a girl in any haunted house worth it's salt, that's what i'm there for...a good endorphin rush .

Cannot wait to check out the ones @ the motherland

I think I'd end up the same way as you so Im thinking maybe stay clear. Also from the sounds of it halloween week would be insane to go there and we are there for the 29th - 31st so Im thinking stay clear!

I had a blast when we went last year. It was really the highlight of our trip. I scare easily and thought I would spend most of the night hiding in the bathroom. But I was fine. By chance, DH really made me mad before we got there and it really toughened me up-the scareactors didn't mess with me. DS, on the other hand, spent most of the night on the run from chainsaw carrying freaks. They sensed his fear and he got picked on, but he loved it. DS was 11 at the time.

Its really not bad at all.. If you have ever been to a local haunted house or haunted hayride, its like that on SPEED! Imagine your local haunted house having a Universal budget. DW was EXTREMELY nervous about HHN last year, to the point of anxiety.. After we went through Jason's Woods, she couldn't wait to see the next one! She is bummed that we wont be there for this years HHN!

The only thing is, I would not bring small children. I saw plenty of people with little kids, like 5 or so. Little children would be really frightened. The scareactors don't stop scaring people, even with little kids nearby. I used Simba's club at Disney's animal kingdom for babysitting and my young son had a great time there.

That's the thing that really makes me mad about people coming to HHN. Universal clearly warns people it may be too intense for small children but some folks insist on bringing them anyway...and then complain when the child gets scared. I guess they are too busy to check into babysitting services.

I COULD NOT BELIEVE some of the kids ages that were at HHN. The houses were scary enough for children, but the shows are DEFINITELY NOT kid friendly! Watching Donald Trump on top of Rosie O'Donnell isn't something an adult should see, much less a kid !!

Macraven and I were watching the Rocky Horror Tribute last year and within 10 minutes of the show starting, most people got up and walked out. They obviously had no idea what Rocky Horror was. I seem to remember there being quite a few kids in the audience...not youngsters but teens who just didn't get it.
