We are contemplating going to MGM in October for the first time. We love Universal, will we be disappointed in MGM? Is it worth the time/money or should we just stick with what we know we love? We went to Magic Kingdom for the first time in July and my husband absolutely hated it so he is kind of skeptical about MGM. He is a big Star Wars and Indiana Jones fan so I thought he might enjoy those things.

Thanks!

if you are talking purely adult type rides then mgm will probably be a bit of a let down. rides as follows:

1. rocking roller coaster. i love this ride and cant get enough of it. great coaster.

2. terror tower. also great fun and i love the atmos of the place as you wait in line. the lobby etc.

3. indiana jones show. good show as they go though a lil crowded most of the time. they often let in more people than they should.

4. star tours. the scenery around the line for this ride is better than the ride IMO. the rides good and all just very very short IMO.

5. backlot tour. has is good bits where you see some interesting things and the canyon explosion scene but otherwise fairly lifeless. not one to do in hot weather as if there isnt a breeze the cars get hot.

6. great movie ride. what can i say about this. parts are ok but mostly i found it cheesy and the guides i've had on it were all lifeless.

7. Muppets 3d. love this show. hilarious stuff but generally only if you like the muppets.

8.who wants to be a millionaire. over packed. need to get there early as its fairly popular. only much fun if you love the show.

the vehicle parades fairly cool if you like cars and the evening fantasmic shows pretty nice too. especially for kids.

im back in FL this fall and if it wasnt for the fact my wifes not been before i would probably only go to rockin coaster, tower of terror and the muppet show. and maybe the indiana jones show if the park was quiet.

Those few rides are great but the others dont really live up to universals caliber IMO.

If your husband hated the MK, then he will probably hate MGM too. I think there are like 4 rides over there and the rest is kiddy shows. I really like the RocknRollercoaster and the great movie ride but honestly, if MGM were not included on my annual pass, I would not go. it is one of those parks that we do in less than a half day and I don't see paying a full days admission for a park with only 2 good rides.
now, if your DH is a big Star Wars fan (like me) he would probably enjoy the Star Wars weekends they have every spring. to me, thats always alot of fun. Most everybody I know says that MGM is a big let down once they have been to Universal, but people have different tastes I suppose... as for me, I like them all! Linda
can't wait for Oct. and HHN's to get here!

If we could move The Tower of Terror and The Rockin' Roller Coaster to Universal, we would be all set.

We love the Disney parks and go there much more frequently than the Universal parks, which we also love. Somehow though we just don't go to them as often.

That being said, MGM does not come close to comparing to US. I agree with the other poster that said if your husband hated MK he will not like MGM.

If it is possible you might try going for part of a day for RNRC and TOT because those really are great rides. Fantasmic is one of the best evening shows anywhere. Other then those Universal wins hands down.

Good luck,
Lori

I totally agree. Fantasmic is GREAT! I enjoy MGM, but not as much as IOA.

We love MGM for the Muppet 3d, Rockn Roller coaster, TOT, and especially Fantasmic. Everything else is kind of fillers, though my wife and daughters like the beauty and the beast show, little mermaid, etc. MGM is a must do for us and we thoroughly enjoy it, but it does not compare to Universal as there are fewer attractions. I would give it a shot though, and if you are using a hopper pass leave after half a day and go to a different disney park if you wish.

The best way to visit MGM is to not think of Universal at all. We love MGM and just accept it for what it is, same with the Universal parks. I LOVE Tot, its my fav ride. We also like RnR coaster, the guys really like the Indy Jones show. We really enjoyed eating at Prime Time--its so much fun. The boys also love Sci Fi.
However we also get a kick out of the action attractions at US like Terminator, Twister, The Mummy. My little ones really like Jimmy Neutron and since we always stay onsite we use our FOTL at Shrek (I like it but wouldnt wait close to a hour to see it without FOTL).

TOT is a great ride, but I can't appreciate the fakeness of a movie studio that isn't actually a studio. MGM is Disney's paniced answer to hearing Universal's plans. They closed down the animation building, and something is only taped there once in a blue moon. I prefer the real studio with IMO better theming.
