DH and I had a disappointing trip to Disney last week. Old Key West resort was awesome, but the dining offerings were so bad thanks to the Disney Dining Plan. We're supposed to go back for Thanksgiving, but now we're thinking of cancelling and trying to book Universal instead. We've never stayed there before, but we do have Universal AP's. Would we even have a chance of getting a reservation at such a late date? Also, is there any possibility of an AP, AAA, etc. discount? Would the good restaurants be all booked up already? Thanks!

We are going over Thanksgiving. I just checked rates last night at the Portofino and they still had rooms. They had stay and play, super saver rates (longer ypu stay, more you get off) and rack rate listed. With the new Loews format, I couldn't bring up AP rates, so don't know if those are available. But they were just last week.

For a garden view, 2 queen,
The Stay and Play was $299 per night
The SuperSaver rate (8 nights) was $224 per night.

Go to Loewshotels.com and you can check out your dates and rates for what hotel you prefer. You might have to call to inquire if there are still ap rates available.

We ate at the Hard Rock's Kitchen last year and it was real good. I think we received a APH discount. We stayed at RPR. The ressies were made only 3 or 4 days in advance.

Chrissy, we have been to Universal several times at Thanksgiving, and it has NEVER been crowded. The hotels do give AAA discounts, too. Thanksgiving is a great time to visit there, in my opinion.

Have a great trip...

Awesome! Now I just have to see if my DH is game to try Universal instead of Disney at Thanksgiving. I hope that he is :)

Is Universal decorated for the holidays at Thanksgiving like Disney is?

Many of the hotels offer a special holiday meal too. It is a bit on the pricey side but, I figure we are saving money ( and not to mention stress) by going to US/IOA instead of WDW.
