First time to the above.

Eight of us, from children aged 12 and 14 to adults and one grandparent.

Likes - mixture of rides and shows.

How many days would you personally recommend for :-

Universal
Islands of Adventure

Do you mean to allow two days per park

or

Two days total, a park a day. Doing that 'depending on when you are visiting' you can at least do the highlights. Add to that staying on site which you can get express pass you can do more with less wait.

You can buy a 7 day unlimited admission pass for less than the price of 2 single days so I would get the pass, allow 1 day for each park then, if you find that you enjoy it and want to go back, you still have 5 days of visiting time left. Lachica must have read another post, I don't see anything here about your staying onsite but if you are the front of the line feature is a major plus. I'll leave further explanations for that to when I know you are actually staying onsite.

No we are not staying on site at Universal, we are staying at Disney Saratoga Springs.

We have paid a deposit via our TA for two weeks worth of passes to Universal, Islands of Adventure. (We are going for three weeks so thought this gave us a bit of flexibility to space the visits out)

At the moment on our first itinerary we have allowed two days for universal and one for islands of adventure (no idea why, but thought possibly more to do at universal?).

Unfortunately we are going in August as a few are teachers or work at a school

Knowing this (sorry should have said right at the beginning) would you say two days at universal and one day at islands of adventure would be a good idea since very busy time???

I would do 1 day for each park, and the 3rd day to redo favorite rides and/or pick up what you missed from either park. They are at walking distance from each other so you can switch of start at IOA then do Uni. If WWoHP is open that time of year its probably going to take you longer to do IOA, simply because of the crowds.

a 1-week unlimited pass for both parks should cost around 50 pounds, I hope your TA got you a better rate. That 50 pounds is a standard rate so you can get 1 week and if you like it you can always buy another week over in Orlando. It would be a shame to pay for 2 weeks then find out you really don't like it after 2 days.

August is hot and crowded so it could be an advantage to space out your visits so you don't spend the hottest part of the afternoon in the parks. You might also prepare to go on the water rides at IOA, which will get you soaked to the skin, so have some crocs or flip flops for that (carry them in a backpack if you want to do your regular walking in trainers.)

You have plenty of time to ask all the questions you need so anything you can think of just let us know. We also have unlimited calling to the UK so if there is anything that needs a thorough explanation you can always PM me with a phone number and my wife can call you, she speaks your language

That sounds pretty good. I just checked the currency site and the actual cost for a 1 week pass is about 62 pounds, it's been a while since I checked the rates.
