Univ Express Pass Questions

We will be staying at the HRH for the first time and going to Universal Studios for the first time with my kids (5, 4 and 2). I have booked the hotel room for 2 adults and 2 kids, however, plan to have my sister-in-law and her husband bunk with us for 2 days. We have the deluxe queen room with pull out sofa, so it will accommodate as just fine

How does the Express Pass work for us? I read each key is good for the number of people in the room. When you go to the line, do they scan the room key and does it read how many in the room - # of adults and # of kids?

I guess my question is, do I need to register the 2 extra adults in order for them to take advantage of the Express Pass or will the hotel allow me to get more than 1 room key?

Thanks so much! (Trying to cut costs during for our vacation - also doing a Disney cruise!)

Each person registered gets a room key, including the children. If your sisterinlaw and her husband aren't registered they won't have a key and can't use the express entrance unless they purchase express for the day.

Now how does the Express Pass work at the ride's line? Do they scan the room key? Is it one room key per person at the ride's line? Because i thought i read somewhere that it's one room key that allows your group (number of people registered at the hotel) to enter together. Is that true?

Thanks for the clarification :) :goodvibes

One room key per person. Each person registered will have their own room key. This room key will be scanned for each person when they go into the express line. I'm not sure where you read that it was one room key for your entire group but that information is incorrect.

Each of us (DH, me & DS-7yo) each had a room key w/ just me and DH having charging privledges on our keys. Each one of us had to show our key to the TM...only got scanned twice (on Cat in Hat), but a few DID check the dates (keys are printed w/ your name and date of stay on them).

i have been staying on site at the hotels for years.

anyone registered as a guest and staying in the room, registered of course, is issued a hotel room key. on it is coded the day it expires.

believe it or not, even a young child must have it for fotl.
yes, if you have a 3 year old, they get a room key. that card key is for id purposes only. it is your ticket for fotl.

OK...so what if I reserve one room...what is the maximum amount of people that can be registered to that room before I must get a second room?

In most standard rooms it's five people maximum.
