United, cancelling and prepaid seats

I know I can cancel or change my flight for no charge but does anyone know what they are doing about refunding the preferred seating fees? I looked all over the website and tried the Bot but no answer. I will call but I thought I'd check to see if anyone has experience with this. Thanks
 
Hi! I cancelled our March 15th flight. I cancelled online since the phone lines were overwhelmed at the time, and planned to call later to deal with the fees. I got a credit for the fare which showed up immediately online, and a few days later the refund for the Economy Plus seats showed up on my credit card. So I never had to call.
 
If they do not automatically refund your money they have a form on line to request refunds. I have used it a few times when connecting flights were missed through no fault of mine and never had an issue getting the refund. Everything was handled through email.
 
UPDATE: FTYI...I cancelled this week and got an automatic refund of the fees.

How long did it take to get your fees back for your seat upgrades? I just cancelled our June flights on 4/17. I did get a credit voucher to use for the cost of the flights. I paid over $500 for economy plus seat upgrades that I am waiting for a refund on. I did submit a online refund request last night.
 
The refund came pretty quick after I cancelled. Maybe a week or 2?!
 
I cancelled several United flights including One where I had upgraded to business class for 4 people. We got the regular fare as a credit and then the refunded upgrade fees, almost $4000, within a week, credited back to my credit card.
Then I cancelled another flight where I had ourchased two roundtrip economy plus upgrades. Those refunds were credited back to my credit card within a day
 
United cancelled our Chicago to Vancouver flight (for a cancelled DCL cruise to Hawaii). Requested refund of airfares plus seat upgrades for both legs (return was supposed to be Honolulu to Chicago). Received airfare refund in 3 days, seat upgrade fees for the Chicago to Vancouver flight one day later, and the seat upgrade fees for the Honolulu to Chicago flight a week after that. So it took 10 days for all the credits to get posted. I was happy to have that ~$2K back.
 
I am trying to decide if I should cancel my United flights for an Orlando flight in September. I wouldn’t cancel it right now but their policy says it needs to be canceled by 4/30 to do it without fees. The flights were booked with points and we paid to upgrade to Economy plus. Still confused how this would work ...I would think I would get all the points back without penalty but does anyone now what happens with the upgrade fees I paid.

I wonder what is going to happen after the 30th when people need to cancel?

I decided to cancel. It was that or play chicken with United to see if they cancel our late July flight and owe us a full refund. The 2 years to use the credits was the reason to cancel. We just hope they don't go bankrupt which is a distinct possibility given the losses and amount of credits people have banked.

I would not be surprised if they extend the cancellation offer but don't bank on anything I say.

If your flight was booked with miles you should get all those back Regardless of when you cancel. We did when we cancelled flights to Africa in March. United also did not charge a fee for putting my miles back in my account.

And we have gotten all our upgrade fees refunded For several flights. But it’s hard to say what happens after April 30. That’s why I cancelled all the flights we had now even if I still go later in the summer. to get the credit and no cancellation fee for use later. Trouble is with miles if you cancel now you may not be able to book later With miles.

I canceled all my flights, United and Delta on Tuesday since I wanted the 2 year credit. This morning, approximately 1:30 am, United changed their policy back to 12 months. I thought we had up to April 30
meaning April 30 but seems today is new policy.
