I will be the faculty sponsor for the junior class this coming school year, so that means I'll have to oversee prom. We're starting to think about planning already, so I thought I'd ask the great minds on the DIS about prom themes. Any unique ideas out there?

They do themed proms at our HS. In the past three years the themes have been A Night in Paris (huge tower and Paris decor), Hollywood (with red carpet, valet parking and old time Hollywood feel) & Vegas (casino feel, palm trees and such)

Out of the three, A Night in Paris was by far their favorite.

For one of the fundraisers they sold t shirts to the students going with the theme on them. It's a cute idea and the kids love them. They do this for each prom.

My prom years ago was an old Hollywood theme. Red carpet, but everything else was black and white. Our junior prom was A Whole New World, after Aladdin. Our cheesy pics were on a fake magic carpet. :rotfl2:

High Schools around here use songs as themes. My son didn't go this year, but he did say last year the theme was fun! song "We are Young". (he didn't go either, but remembers the voting)

My theme (from the dark ages) was a Phil Collins song- We said Hello Goodbye. My sisters prom theme was Bon Jovi's Never Say Goodbye.

A former colleague told me her childs theme was in 2007 so it was a James Bond theme.

I think around here there are so many themed functions (bar/bat mitzvahs, sweet 16s) they just use popular songs instead of props and decorations.

I think the committee picks around 6-8 songs, the class votes, votes again if necessary and there you have your theme.

When I was in school they used to have a song for the theme, but the last three years my dd18 went to prom it wasn't a song. They have a grand march and the art teacher decorates the stage VERY elaborately. If your interested in pictures I could try to put some on later.

They did a pirate theme this past year. on the stage they had a huge pirate ship that looked like it was split in half for the kids to "march" through. The table had treasure chests as the centerpieces with beaded necklaces and those chocolate gold coins.

They had a candy land theme, really cute they had like big lollipops and pieces of candy as the backdrop for the pictures, and the grand march. The centerpieces on the table that year were big bundles of candy in the center of each table and after their dinner the kids were allowed to eat the candy centerpieces.

Another theme was Alice in wonderland, think huge mushrooms and things you would see when Alice is shrunk.

We did a James Bond theme for our debs(irish version of prom). All I remember is wearing a tux and then waking up the next morning in agony with an awful headache
