Unique Baby Girls names??

I have sifted through many of the pages (not all, there's too many) and have seen many lovely names listed . DH and I are fans of creative names and our girls are no exceptions. Both have Celitc first names as they represent our Irish heritage.

DD # 1 is Caolyn Mackenzie (kailynn but correctly pronounced key-O-lynn)
DD #2 is Caireann (Karen but correctly pronounced Kir-en) we're still working on the middle name.

Other names that I like include (many mentioned before):
Autumn, Sierra, Sienna, Keelie,

DH suggested these names for the baby (I'm not as into them but we'll see)
Aislinn (pronounced Ashlin), and Ailis (pronounced Alice)

When I was pregnant with DD I had picked out her name Cheyenne because I had not heard that anywhere.

My oldest's middle name is Cassidy Cheyenne and the funniest part is that we hear more of Cheyennes than Cassidys, but neither one a lot.

Maura (pronounced more-uh)

and just in case you need a boy name for some odd reason, Austin is the way to go!

A chrisitan rrock singer recently named his baby girl Neveah..which is HEAVEN spelled backwards. Pronounced NUH-VAY-AH..
I think its beautiful and a beautiful concept behind it as well.

We named our DD Cameryn. The day she was baptized, there was another little girl with the same name, spelled Cameron. I thin we'll be seeing more and more of this name on girls in the future. I love it.

There's a baby at the daycare I work at named Nevaeh. I kept thinking that is a really unusual name, then reading this post tonight, I saw it and realized that its actually kind of cool.

i have a Britni Michelle (there were 3 in her class all different spellings ) a Brenna Nicole (constatnly mispronounced as Breanna..have to explain it rhymes with Jenna) and ds is Riley Richard (he would have been a Riley something whether he was a boy or girl).

I like Abby, Camryn, Delaney.

I think its much easier coming up with girls names. Our oldest dd we had picked her name out pretty early (didn't know if she was a girl or boy) to this day I have no clue what we would have named her if she was a boy! Our second dd was Brenna or Brady (if a boy) and Riley was going to be Riley regardless.

My mom's name is Kendall. If I ever have a daughter she'll be named for my mom. I love the fact that she'll probably be the only one in her class, yet it's easy to spell, easy to pronounce etc . . . I know I could use Kendall for a boy, but somehow naming my son for Grandma doesn't seem right.

I thought this was funny because my daugther is named after her grandfather and great grandfather. When I was pregnant, everyone would ask what are you going to name if a boy, I would say "Cameron". Then they'd say and if it's a girl, and I would reply "Cameron."

Seriously though it had been passed down for several generations in my family, and then my Dad only had me, no boy, it came to a screeching halt. So I decided I wasn't going ot wait like my Dad did for a boy (good thing too I guess as I still only have the one DD, now 6).

I have never met anyone with my name.. it is Melynn, pronounced M'lynn or Malynn. Not Melon, as most who read it would. I was was born on my Fathers Birthday, who's name was Melvin! Man, am I glad I wasn't a boy! good luck with naming!

Melynn, I taught a girl a couple years ago and her middle name was M'lynn. Her best friend is not pregnant with a little girl and that will be her middle name. I too thought she was probalby the only one.

Someone once told there was an outdoorsman who had twin boys and they named them: Hunter and Fischer! Probably another urban legend as well.

This one is true. One of my mom's friends all have "outdoorsy" names: Hunter, Summer, and Forrest.

DD is named Alicia (pronounced A-lee-see-a) but everyone says it wrong and calls her aleesha. It drives her crazy.

I have a friend named Stacia (pronounced Stay-sha). Everyone calls her Stacy, but I really like that name.

I'm sure there are more. If any more occur to me I'll come back and repost.

Some of you people are just so ridiculous with your suggestions and the names you have saddled your children with, I can't even put into words how idiotic you sound.

And the best thing about the above insult is that no one here will think it's you that I am talking about, so no one will get offended.

There are a couple of classics listed here, but I don't want to single anyone out for ridicule.

But seriously, what's with the compulsion to change the spelling to make a name "unique"? Here's a tip - it doesn't make the name unique - it just makes it spelled wrong. "Aisling = Ashley"? On what planet?

Unique spelling makes the written name difficult to read and pronounce, and makes the spoken name difficult if not impossible to spell without an explanation. Why on God's green Earth would you do that to your children? They're going to have to spell it and pronounce it for people for 80+ years! Give them a break for God's sake!

English is a scrap heap of other languages, especially American English. But it does have some conventions. That's why the woman who threw an extra "L" into "Tyler" suddenly had a son named Tiller - or so everyone who read his name thought. On the other hand, everyone who heard his name assumed it was spelled "Tyler" -- mostly because that's how it's supposed to be spelled. But now there's a kid out there who has to correct everyone for the rest of his life.

So, to answer the OP, don't go for unique for the sake of unique. Just give your niece some classic names. A good place to start for a list of those would be anywhere but this thread.

As a teacher I hate it when regular names are spelled different just to be unique!!! For goodness sakes spell the name the "usual" way!!
My dd is Mallory Elizabeth--the only Mallory around here--
My neice is Makenna Samantha (after me!!) She is defientely the only Makenna around!!

Did not ask but my oldest sons name is Davis Grier-both family names-I wanted to call him Grier but my husband was dead set against that--he said it reminded him of an old man wearing plaid (sounds like my grandpa)

Wow, thats really interesting to me.
When my cousin was born.. my Aunt had a lot of problems trying to name her. She'd gotten pregnant on a fling and knew she'd be raising the kid by herself.. so she eventually chose a name that really meant something.
So she chose a name based off the middle names of her three sisters..
The oldest- Edna May
Second Olders- Melinda Sue
Third (my mom)- Diana Lynn
And then the baby, my Aunt in question..

So my cousins name became..
Malynn Sue..
A collaboration of all three of her sisters names. She told them that the biggest reason she did it was so that they would always feel like they were a part of her life and help to take care of her..
My Aunt died suddenly when Malynn was 12.. so her name and the reasoning became quite the emotional topic...
And Malynn is well cared for by my mom and her two remaining sisters..

Sorry, but I can't agree. I grew up with a very French surname that is difficult for Americans (at least) to spell. Just because it is not phonetic, does that make the spelling wrong? Should my ancestors have 'Americanized' the spelling? I'm grateful they didn't, it is a unique and beautiful name. Yes, as a child I hated having to tell people how to pronounce it and spell it every time. But in my teens I learned to appreciate its uniqueness.

As for 'unique' first names, I married a man with (coincidentally) a very French first name, though not so unique that it should be difficult to pronounce. Yet many times he has had to correct the spelling or pronunciation; on the plus side, no one ever forgets his name! We named our firstborn with a classic name, however used the French spelling of it. When someone spells my son's name in the typical American/English spelling, forgive me, but that is an incorrect spelling of my son's name.
