Ungrateful vent

I totally understand but you know they meant good, so vent here and then go and make changes to your plan. :)

I agree. I certainly understand your pain, but remember that they were trying to do something nice for you. This is the only input they have put into your plan, so refusing would seem very rude. Remember: it is not these grandparents who have made the planning especially difficult, it is the fact that you are going during Grad Nights. That's not their fault.

Can you try to change the date of Blue Man Group (really fun show, by the way, if you haven't seen it)?
If it's a ressie and not a ticket, maybe it can be switched..I'm sure they'll understand that it's the only good night to do MK....

As long as you're going to USF, see if they'll spring for dinner at Emeril's... :lmao:

While I understand your frustration, give Blue Man Group a chance. They are FANTASTIC!

Oh absolutely! I have no intention of letting them know this surprise was ever anything but welcomed and appreciated. My parents would do anything for us and I know this gesture was made purely with love. It just may take me until tomorrow to be able to talk about it with them ;)

Oooooooo.....good idea!!! :rotfl:

I would feel the same way. If they had checked with you first, that would have been a better way to handle making plans. Since they said they were letting you plan the trip, they should have kept it that way.

Sorry for your frustration.

Just get back to that "Drawing Board" for more planning. Maybe since MK is closing early, try to do more than one RD day there and don't go to Epcot park until afternoon / evening. Then do several evenings at Epcot. Maybe it will even out that way. MK can get so crowded by late afternoon that it can be unpleasant anyway. is the night of the show an Evening EMH MK night? If so, whoever still has energy could go after the Blue Man show.

I don't think you are ungrateful at all. If it were me, I would have to tell them that while you appreciate the gesture, that is a bad night, and was the reason you asked them to be part of the planning.

My MIL is going on the trip with us... in fact, she is paying for the trip. We were planning on going (and paying), and invited all of the grandparents. She is the only one who took us up on the offer, on the condition that she pays for the trip. All we have to pay for is the gratuity and souveniers. She keeps telling me she will do whatever we want, and I am sure she means it, but I am doing my best to plan some things I hope she will enjoy.

I agree. I have seen BMG twice it is awesome. I took the kids in 2007 on our Dis/USO trip and I think it was THE highlight. I hate to be in the minority here, but I think you are having some trouble seeing the trees through the forest. You are weighing a few extra hours at MK over a great treat. This a bonus. Yeah, it is a bit of a curveball but I am sure the great planner in you will make it work out and you and your family will be glad you went!!

I think it was a very nice thing of them to do. Honestly, I really don't think missing one night at MK is a big deal, plus Blue Man Group is a really fun show. :) I disagree with the posters who say to tell them "too bad, I have to be in MK that night." That would be ungrateful IMHO.

If your kids are teenagers, BMG will be a great family treat. Your parents found a good one. I know you're upset because, trust me, I've tried to plan for family before. The only way to do it is to go with the flow (unless you're looking to lose family, in which case, telling them, "my way or the highway," words wonders).

I second those who have suggested dinner at CityWalk. Are you going to the early BMG show or the late one? Margaritaville is lots of fun as is Hard Rock Cafe. Of course, Emeril's is great, too, but kind of out of my family's comfort zone.

I would let them know that you understand they were just trying to be thoughtful, but also that this is exactly why you wanted them to be part of the planning process.

I think the problem is that it was the ONLY possible night at MK during their trip. All the other nights, MK is closing early for Grad Nights.
In the original post, the OP said Grad nights are happening on 4 nights of their trip. Grad nights are 4/23, 4/24, 4/30 and 5/1 leaving all the days before, after and in between open for the MK (4/25, 4/26, 4/27, 4/28 and 4/29) so I am not sure it is the ONLY possble night of their trip (we don't know the actual dates). It sounded to me like it happened to be the night the OP had planned for the MK. I am sure with some moving stuff around, it can be done. Yeah, maybe you lose an ADR, but I am sure a BMG show will out weigh some tweaks to the plans.

It's possible they had MK scheduled for 4/25, the only night that week MK has EMH.

Well now that I have to shuffle the itinerary around, I figured we may as well have dinner up at City Walk as well. The tickets are for a Friday night 8:30 pm show, and I was looking at Margaritaville. How much time should I allow for dinner prior, and what's the price range like?

You are right, it's not the only possible MK night for the whole trip, but I guess it was more the fact that each day was already planned out, including all ADRs. Between Grad Nights and trying to avoid evening EMH's, it was a pain to do and I was sooo happy it was all done!!

Margaritiaville rocks!! It's take a good 20 minutes to walk from there to Universal, so, let's say you leave Margaritaville around 8:00 pm...so I'd make my ADR for 6:00-6:15. Be sure you call at least 30 days out.

Sorry to hear about your plans...I hate when wrenches are thrown into my plans, even good-hearted ones. Why not make lemonade out of lemons and spend the day at Universal/IOA?
