Unfair :(

Absolutely. But if you choose to stay offsite, there is nothing unfair about Disney rewarding those of us who do. Sorry.

In my replies (if you read each my posts), I wasn't saying it was unfair to reward Disney onsite guests with special perks :confused3. I was discussing the quality of a Disney room vs. the quality of a similarly-priced offsite room in Orlando.

My opinion is that I think Disney has truly dropped the ball in offering perks to onsite guests that can't be accessed by offsite guests for a price. YMMV.

Disney can (and will) do whatever they see fit. We own 2 weeks in Orlando and have many trips in our future. If Disney's FP+ system is not extended, after the test period, to encompass offsiters in some workable form, then they will no longer get my business. Not my loss ('cause there's so much more to do in Orlando) but certainly Disney's.

There are many choices of rooms to meet a variety of needs. We usually book a one bedroom villa with a full kitchen, two bathrooms and space to sleep five - King bed, pull out sofa and chair. If you want on site perks you have to pay for an on site room. We go to Hershey park every couple years. I don't complain that I'm not getting access to their extra hours, free parking etc that the on site guests have. If I want it, I pay for it

How much do you pay per night/week for that 1 bedroom villa that has exactly 1 bed?

While I don't think the Disney rooms are "crap", I do think they are nothing better than a typical Best Western. Yep, there are big Disney icons stuck around the common areas and *maybe* a bigger pool, but that's the only improvements over a very budget property in any other city.

On our August 2013 vacation, we had a 1200 square foot GORGEOUS villa at Sheraton Vistana Resort for $120 per night, taxes included. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen, in-room laundry facilities, screened in balcony, king bed in the master, jacuzzi tub. Granite countertops, ceramic tile, beautiful finishings throughout. A king bed in the master and two doubles in the second bedroom. 7 pools, a selection of hot tubs, onsite mini golf, basketball courts, volleyball courts. It was the same price as a room at POP, all 260? square feet of it.

it's all in the eye of the beholder.

I don't want a kitchen because I don't want to cook.

Laundry on vacation? No thank you. If I need it in a pinch, I'll pay for laundry service (never have though).

Jacuzzi tub? Disgusting...no way I am bathing in a hotel room.

Granite countertops are annoyingly hard. Can't stand em.

King beds are nice I suppose....but not really something I care about at all. A queen is fine.

I don't see 7 pools being any better than 2. we don't play much mini-golf or hoops while at Disney and if we did want mini-golf I'd much rather play the Disney themed courses.

I'm the last one to defend FP+ simply based on the lack of information regarding the entire system, but the one thing I don't think people have any right to complain about is preferred treatment that on-site resort guests receive. Sorry, but that's life. Disney SHOULD offer better incentives to guests willing to shell out the money to stay on property.

FP+ is not meant to be an onsite perk. Disney has stated that it will be included in theme park admission for ALL guests.

It's possible that prebooking will be an onsite perk, but Disney has said that all guests will have access to FP+.

I have to LOL about voting with your wallet. If you don't go, a thousand other families will take your place.

Disney is not necessarily destined to be the behemoth they are forever. They are going down a slippery slope with some guests. If people view stuff as too much nickel-and-diming with not enough reward, they will EVENTUALLY stop coming. It may not happen all at once, but it will happen.

My most recent trip, last week, there were SO MANY small ride elements not working on rides as large as Expedition Everest and as small as IASW. It was almost a game by the end, pick out what isn't working. The orange scent comes out at the wrong time on Soarin'. The created cars not matching up with the "leaderboards" during the ride at Test Track. The Norway film not being shown at all (either due to disinterest or technical issues).

I am not to that point yet myself of not going because all tolled, the experience is still worth it for me. But they are definitely approaching a crossroads with some of these decisions, and FP+ is a HUGE one. If it doesn't work out the way they've envisioned it, it is going to alienate a lot of people, and definitely could affect the bottom line in a big way.

After going to WDW for over 30 years, I've NEVER used a Fastpass. We've always rode what we wanted. And it's not because I'm against FP, it's because I never wanted to bother with it (I'm lazy like that). So the thing about not riding what you want is kind of BS. We never were left wanting..

I have used FP but not as die hard as others. I'm all for laziness and I'm already walking the world lol so I don't want to walk a mile for a FP. I'm always good with the waiting and I've never waited long.

FP+ will be good for me. No extra walking to get a FP. And you know I'm all for looking out for número uno. :rotfl2:

No I have a clue, I have more than a clue.

Uh, my 16 year old son won't even fit on the sofa bed or that garbage table bed at Art of Animation. We want real beds when we are on vacation. We vacation to get rid of everyday stress, kids included. For 2 nights at $300 at Disney's Art Of Animation, I can get a nice 3 bedroom house with a private pool for a week that is almost as close as some of Disney's own hotels.

As for staying on site perks, yep, people should get perks. But they shouldn't be AT THE EXPENSE of people that are paying the SAME EXACT PRICE for their park ticket as you are.

The only time I have stayed on Disney's property and felt that I got value for my money(and was worth "the Magic" that everyone talks about) is when we stayed at Fort Wilderness in a cabin and that was some 20 years ago when they were not overpriced. And to me, Disney has lost it's "Magical" luster onsite. I have't found anything "Magical" about staying onsite for about 10-15 years. If they are trying to get me back onsite with FPs and penalizing me for staying offsite. That's okay, Disney won't get less of my money, they'll get NONE of it. I'll go to Universal and Sea World(which my family enjoys more now) or spend our vacation dollars from our annual Orlando trip elsewhere around the Country/World.

maybe then they should have rooms other than crap motel quality rooms with Disney decor for $100 a night. I CAN'T stay in a crap Disney motel room because I have 2 teens, a boy and a girl that aren't sharing a bed. And almost every Disney room gives you 2 beds unless of course you would like to pay $500 a night for a slightly less crap room that is bigger. And no, I'm not paying $100 for a room in those garbage value resorts so why would I get TWO of them

EVERYTHING about staying on Disney's property stinks, from room size, to transportation to expense to eat.

who exactly are you trying to convince :lmao:

sheesh....stay offsite...be happy...give it a rest.

Disney doesn't care if they get your money or not. You're not as important as you think you are. Get off your high horse.

The thing is, it HAS been said that FP+ will be available to ALL guests once it goes live. It just comes down to when exactly that is. If this had gone live right out of the gate, without testing, and there were problems galore? People would STILL be mad and would probably say that Disney should have tested the program first before going live. For some, Disney just can't win.

As far as the onsite/offsite debate (again)? Who cares what anyone else does with their vacation? You do what makes the most sense to you and your family. You're not paying for my vacation, so I don't expect you to worry about where I'm staying.

Exactly... we get it, you don't like staying onsite. Good more room for the rest of us that do!
And like a PP stated, for every one person on here that says they will not go again (which I doubt is true) there are 2 or 3 more that will. Go read the other posts that the parks are getting busier and busier all the time and that there are no 'slow' times anymore.

I have never understood the "if there's a kitchen, I *must* cook" philosophy  . It honestly baffles me.

The rooms do not come with any requirement to prepare meals. We didn't cook in the kitchen even once on our last stay. But that huge fridge was super nice to have for cold drinks in the August heat.

Arguing that in-room laundry, high-quality finishings, large beds, and jacuzzi tubs are detriments vs. enhancements is pointless. I am not disagreeing that appreciation of such luxuries are in the eye of the beholder. They absolutely are, and I have no problem with someone who chooses to stay in a Disney resort. If that's for you and your family, no problem at all. But I know I speak for many folks who say that limited, basic amenities in a tiny room is not for everyone.

Maybe Disney should let money do the talking and scrap FP all together. It's nice that they want FP to be free but free only takes you so far when it's offered to everyone.

Kind of like how when everyone gets a trophy, getting one is no big deal anymore. Either limit it to onsite, or charge for it.

Exactly. Plus...I don't want to be a slave to the hotel shuttle services and I don't want to rent a car....

maybe, but there are more and more like myself that are seeing less and less value in a Disney trip. Its only a matter of time before they start feeling it. Disney's brand name and the myth of the long gone "Disney Experience" are the only things keeping it on top right now.

Here's the thing.. I go to Cancun every year to a resort, but it's a lounge around the resort type resort (sheesh that's alot of resorts for one sentence!)
So those type of amenities are perfect for that situation. But in WDW, we're hardly ever in the room, so such amenities are really being wasted on us.

So true, I stayed off site once at a place that had 'Disney Shuttle' and it was AWFUL they ran once and hour and if the bus was full you had to wait another hour to get to the parks. We ended up renting a car, which we did not want to do.

but you don't mind being a slave to Disney's horrible transportation system?
