Uneasy about renting points

Hello Everyone!

First off, I must tell you that I have sucessfully rented DVC points 4 Decembers in a row. I have done 3 nights in a mod, then 3 nights in a BWV one bedroom. In January I did 5 full nights at BWV.
I am in love with that one bedroom unit.

Even though I was sucessful each time ( Thanks to the rent/trade board ) I still worry about the
"what ifs". So my question is this:

What if I sucessfully rented the points 10 months out, and the ressie is now on the books, BUT
the member does NOT pay the maintenance dues during these 10 months before arrival?
Is my ressie then cancelled?

I have these fears that I will arrive at WDW on my beloved solo vacation, and have no place to stay.

Please, any comments ?

Maintenance fees are due early in the year(I think Feb or Jan, can't remember when I sent the check in).

I don't know how long DVC let's your reservations stand before they would cancel them due to non payment of fees. Or how overdue you are before they don't let you make reservations.

I don't know how as a renter you could protect yourself against something like that.

Your post puzzles me. If you have rented successfully 4 times, didn't you worry about these things then?

Honestly, if you are that worried, I would suggest CRO.
No need to worry when you rent from Disney.

I look at it like a gamble.. We save 60+% by renting and stay at an awesome place...but then there's the risk. I believe the reward is worth the risk. I would not be shocked if some day I arrived and "oops nothing for you mam", but my previous positives would outweigh that (I hope!) A person needs to weigh those benifits vs. risks. Also, keep the email, name, etc of the renter and try to deal with the same person each time. Talk to them over the phone as it truly establishes a rapor. And most people suggest this, but I don't do it; request or draw up a contract. I am sure there are other things people will suggest. Remember, the owners are also taking a risk on you.:wizard:

It is a gamble but a small one IMO. Technically the member could change the reservation, sell the contract, or do one of a number of things putting them in default with DVC. Look at it this way, if you got stiffed one out of 5 times you'd still likely be in good shape financially though I'm sure you'd be a little shaken when it did happen. You simply have to decide if the savings is worth the gamble.
