Underwhelmed by webcast

I was watching for the "free" lithograph...!

:thumbsup2 Me too! I've been signing up for each webcast and have been collecting them. I really have no interest in adding on right now, so I log into the webcast and then don't pay attention. We bought a year and a half ago after the very first webcast. I felt we got a really good deal then at $18 off, but Disney has raised the price so much in the previous year and half that now I don't think $18 off is such a good deal!

All indicative of the cutbacks and self destruction of the Walt Disney Company. It's sad, but true. The mediocrity is spreading to every aspect of the company.
The sad thing is that we all fell in love with the extravagant, over the top company, not the junk we have been getting the past few years.

Disturbing.

DW and I sat thru it but I to agree it was "wait for it"......BAD (sigh) almost painfull. I was hoping to see more of the Resorts and a Little better incentive to add on as well. We travel to the World twice a year (3 times this year:)) so we know the resorts, but we do LOVE getting our Disney fix when at home. Shawnpirate:

Sounds about as bad as last years production, if you want to call it that. I signed up again just to hear the add-on incentives, but have already got wind of them so no need to watch now....

Very disappointed in this DVC....

I'm a bit surprised there was so much feedback on this topic as I dashed it off during a break at work; apparently, I've tapped into a well of discontent regarding DVC's webcasts, in particular, and their lack of focus re: customer service, in general. What originally lured me to DVC was the notion of well above average accomodations and seemingingly topnotch treatment of owners. I do feel the accomodations still are excellent, but if I'm totally honest with myself, I do see corporate lockstep thinking has replaced the heart of Disney (which Walt would likely hate). I'm not naive enough to think that the bottom line hasn't always been there for Disney, but within the past few years, that approach seems more blatant than ever--blatant and unapologetically skewed toward making money.

Being a small business owner, I get it. Who doesn't want to ensure their company prospers (or just survives recently)? Yet, when you make your business that of fulfilling dreams, to calculatingly squeeze every penny of profit out of whichever department you can tarnishes the image of Disney. Yeah, it was a crappy webcast--I remarked more than once that a high schooler with a video camera and mid-level graphics skill could've have done better--but how much did it really save DVC? There are some costs that can't be parsed into dollar signs--emotions, hopes, and yes, memories. Those are much harder to reinvest once lost. Are you listening Disney?

I didn't think so.

:guilty:

This explains why Disney is using other people's video tapes and photographs for this year's campaign. It's cheaper than doing a 30 second or 60 second commercial from scratch. They just use 10-15 seconds (or more) of some old video where the kids are going crazy.

I watched this with my DW. We are new to DVC and we were really excited to be invited to watch. After it was over my DW looked at me and said, "well.... what did you learn" ? :confused3 I replied...... "not to watch another one of these." :lmao:

But actually we both confirmed something from it..... it's better to buy resale than to pay high Disney prices. :thumbsup2

Don't mean to interject, but log into the Disney Parks Blog and post comments on the PI redesign. A lot of Adventurers Club comments are being posted.

I definitely agree with the last sentence! ;) Don't know how new you are to DVC, but Welcome Home, regardless! I should have added, lest there are those who think I'm disenchanted (pun intended), that I still enjoy Disney immensely, and I love owning at VWL (where I'll be in 16 days). In fact, I plan to enjoy the World and the Land for many years to come. However, I think only the most eternally optimistic could say with a straight face that Disney's standards are as high now as they were a decade ago or even five years ago, perhaps. And that saddens me. . . . . . . . . .but not too much. . .:thumbsup2

We saw the blonde lady host the American Idol Experience last spring. She was better then ;)

arthur06 - the lithograph I got from the last webcast was the lamest thing I have ever seen. No quality to it. You could gotten a better quality by making a color copy of a magazine cover on a copy machine. I think I wound up throwing it away.

I have gotten 2 litho's from watching... I think that they are rather cheap as well, but with 3 kids and only 2 pictures, I needed the one more litho...

It's really only for the Kool-aid drinkers anyway. But it is basically the way DVC is treating the members these days.

The Kool-Aid mention does refer back to mass murder/suicide, as I'm sure you know...I find it a nasty way to refer to people who believe in the value of something (Dave Ramsey people use it too).

I like the lithographs. They are worth free. :) I've paid Disney Movie Rewards points to buy a Pirates lithograph and it was a bit nicer, and I got one with a POTC movie purchase that was even nicer. They are cute and make me happy. Even though I don't drink gross drinks with poison in them.

I DO agree with that! :goodvibes

This is by far the worst webcast they have done.... bad sound. lame script....

stopped actively watching.....

As I said back on the first page, all the webcasts have spent way too much time focusing on people looking back on their "memories". Members have their own memories and I personally don't need to see someone else's that I don't know or care about. I wish they'd ask for our feedback on what we'd like to see on another webcast. As I said before, I'll watch anything Disney and I didn't watch for the litho but to get that "Disney feeling"- sadly, I didn't get anything but annoyed. That said, I love Disney and my DVC- I just wish I could find a compelling reason to get excited about another add-on purchase or to even think about a future add-on. Where are the sales and marketing professionals who know how to sell and how to encourage people to buy? I'd love to see a really good incentive, but I know I'm dreaming.---Kathy

It has long since been used to refer to people who buy into something and not just Jonestown. The term has been used in movies, by Ken Kesey and others. And it has long been used with DVC members who keep on buying more and more points.

In most cases, it is better to buy resale.

Adding on 100 pts at BLT or 250pts at BLT are fair deals, especially for December and February Use Years (last years points for free).

100 pts @ 120pp-$12-$4.5=$103.5pp plus no closing costs. Pretty equal to resale, except you can get the exact contract you want.

250 pts @ 120pp-$18-$3=$99pp plus no closing costs......no this is a good price.

I was watching for the "free" lithograph... I thought the whole process was rather silly! The host in the studio was acting as if she didnt know the camera was on at times. The blonde girl was rather odd. The guy showing the clips was very annoying! And the gentleman reveiling the incentives kept saying "wait for it" was rather lame!

The webcast itself was pretty bad. I'm hoping the lithograph will make up for it :lmao: My son LOVES anything Disney (he's a well taught boy...), so I have a bunch of these hung up in his room. I guess you could say I was watching only for help with decorating :)

This is so off topic but I am shocked that it has been brought up. I was just saying to my husband the other day that "drinking the Kool-Aid" is a pretty disrespectful phrase since so many people died doing just that at Jonestown. That actually IS where the phrase comes from; the mass murder/suicide of men, women and children under the control of a crazed cult-leader. I just think it's time to retire that phrase as it is over used and actually disrespectful to those hundreds of people who died. I cringe thinking of those poor souls every time I hear that Kool-Aid reference.
