Does anyone have any recommendations for an underwater digital camera. I'm looking to spend a ton since we have 2 regular cameras as well. Thanks

In Feb we bought the Olympus Tough 6000 and hated it! I highly recommend staying away from it. The underwater shots were okay but it takes horrible normal shots. We ended up taking it back and getting a non-underwater camera.

My sister has the Tough 8000 (or 8500) and loves it. It takes pretty good shots, too. But she spent a lot more on hers. We didn't want to spend more than around $200 since we already had a $400 camera that is really nice.

Good luck.

I am happy with my Kodak playsport. $150

I second this! Takes fun underwater videos as well and good photos. We take it to the pool, the beach, etc. Not good for indoor photos at all, but great HD video quality!

I recommend this as well. Just picked it up this past week and have been playing with it. Takes great shots (above water, but is waterproof up to 10 ft). Haven't had a chance to take underwater shots yet though. Great HD video quality in outdoor light, not so much indoor (too grainy). Would love to know how to send the video via email but file is too large. Anyone do this?

Do NOT get the Olympus underwater cameras!!!

I LOVED mine at first, it took great water pictures. But the out of water pics were horrible. And then, less than a year after having it, I lent it to SIL for her honeymoon and they took it snorkeling and it just completely shut off and died. It had gotten full of water and sand. :confused3 SO much for water proof!!

Poor SIL was mortified!!! They had taken very good care of it, but she thought they broke it.... we looked online and turns out lots of people had that problem!

I bought a regular Canon powershot and just bought this underwater case for it and it works great!!

Same thing happened to mine- so we got a Fuji one- only had it a month so far so we'll see what happens in a year. LOL It took OK pics- but I have a Canon Rebel- so we really only used it for water stuff.

I have the Kodak Playsport and love it too. Sams Club here has it for $99 so a great deal! I bought it instead of the Flip because it was waterproof.

My daughter has the Fuji one and I thought the underwater pics were decent. We were looking for a basic inexpensive digital camera for her for Christmas and decided on this one since it was waterproof too (she's only 5). We also have a Canon Rebel, so like the pp it is only used for underwater.

Ours came from Sam's as well but I paid $119 for a pkg with a wrist strap that makes the camera float. The kids have had a blast with it so far. Takes very clear video. No experience with actual pics yet but so far it has been totally worth the money.

Look into getting a waterproof case for the digital camera you already own. There are tons of them on Amazon.

We have both the Kodak Playsport (for video mainly) and the Fuji Finepix WP (for stills mainly)

Love them both. The Fuji offers a ton of still picture modes. I especially like the ability to take two pictures at once, one with flash and one without. Eliminates the need to adjust and take another. I would love it if I found a waterproof/underwater camera that does still and video equally well... but these cameras are so small and portable I don't mind carrying both.

All of the Olympus hating is very interesting. We love our Stylus Tough 8000. Best purchase I've made in quite some time. The image quality is fanatastic, and I loved the looks on people's faces in Stormalong Bay last month when my husband tossed it to me in the pool. And I love the fact that I can drop it and it won't break, unlike the 2 Sony Cybershots that I had recently that fell all of 2 feet and died on the spot.

Just ordered the FujiXP10 online-only way I could get the green one- for 161.00 at Bestbuy.com -also, Iwas going to get the Playsport for video but a new one is due out Sept 5 for $99 and the pics show it to be the size of a cc but still HD and waterproof.
We read lots of reviews and for just wanting this for pool and beach couldn't see sending more plus if you search on;line you can see lots of peopples videos and pics and they were good for what you are paying.

How do you know a new one is coming out in Sept. I believe the one that's out now just came out in Jan, 2010. Would love to see what it looks like.
