The math doesn't jive....

Looking at UT this morning for 3-day Park Hoppers starting on Sun Dec 7th...the site claims a savings of $43 over direct-from-Disney, total price of $1,221.80 for two adult tickets, saving $88 total. Individual ticket price of $556.61 (before taxes, I presume...not detailed in the cart). Claim is savings of $88:

BUT - pricing the same 3-day Park Hopper at Disney shows a total price of $1,269.12, individual ticket price of $595.83, also before taxes.

On an individual ticket level, the price difference is actually $39...but in total for purchasing two tickets, the savings is just $8 more, a total of $47??

"vs Gate price" which is NOT the online advanced purchase price. Typically "gate price" is about $20 higher. This is the price you'd be charged if you walked up to a ticket booth that morning to buy your tickets.

Pricing all of the "discount" ticket sellers like UT, Unlocked Magic, Tickets at Work, they're all within a couple dollars. If time were money, I would've spent more money researching all of them to see who had the better price. We ultimately went with UT for our DLR trip next month.

This is why the ticket calculator that @Genie+ linked to, exists: to save time and money. (I help maintain it.)

It's interesting to see the tickets for which there's the most competition, and to see how many people opt in to options like park hopping, too.

Wow! I've been a member of TP for a number of years and didn't realize this calculator existed. Thanks @Genie+ for posting the link and @lentesta for creating it!!

It’s an awesome tool and that’s how we found Boardwalk Ticketing a few years ago. Loved them but sadly they’re no more.

Where did they go?
Just checked and I guess they’re still around. When we were looking to book from them for our trip in Aug, their website seemed really broken (we had been looking for several months). Glad to see they’re still around.

It still looks dead when you try to purchase tickets. It still says "Our Tickets Will Be Right Back!" The same thing is said 7 months ago.

Darn! I was hoping it was back! I didn’t try to purchase, just notes that it looked like you could.

Since 2023, on around 500K runs of the ticket calculator:
  • Around 40% of guests select the Park Hopper option
  • The most popular ticket has 4 theme park days and 0 water park days
  • 99% of you are okay with using a third-party ticket wholesaler (that's the default, so it's likely skewed)
  • The average group has 3 people ages 10+ and 1 child ages 3-9

Ya, I remember when you got a bit of a price break on a 5-day ticket. Disney pulled back on that and now I think it's at least a 6 or 7-day ticket before that occurs.

For multi-day tickets, the additional days don't get "cheaper" until about day 6 with less cost to add days through max of 10. Days 1-5 are pretty close to full price.

Authorized resellers are not able to discount 1-day tickets. However there is a small savings starting with 2-day tickets (very very small discount) and the discount increases with longer tickets. I've read reports of savings $50-$100/ticket, which adds up if buying for a family. Which ticket length has the best savings can vary. Sometimes there may be a "buy 4 get the 5th day free" type of offer, or a % off, etc. The offers from resellers change frequently.

The fifth day free is a good deal from resellers. I'll keep an eye on such in the future years.
