My DS will be heading to Orlando May 9 - 13. He is flying into Sanford and will be renting a car for the 4 days. Problem is he will be 24 years and 11 months old. Is there any codes that will wave the underage fee?

Does he have a job? IF so, maybe his company has one. The place I used to work did have a code that waived the fee.. otherwise it is VERY hard to get rid of it. I don't think I have heard of many "codes" with success.

If he's staying on property it might be cheaper to just rent the car for the day of arrival and departure.

Have him join USAA (FREE) and you do not have to be military to join, its a basic membership and you get a membership card etc. You get the underage fee waived, and several other benefits including discounts with budget hertz enterprise or avis.
I went last year age 23 and had a Camaro convertible for a week for 350.

He has a job, but he is a Youth Pastor, so no large group discounts. What is USAA? Sounds interesting. We own a condo in Orlando so he will be staying there.

The USAA didn't work. It gave us a price then in the fine print it said anyone 21-24 would be charged an additional $27 per day.

Usaa must have changed their policy. I have been a member for quite a few years.

There are other groups that waive the under 25, just use Google.

Don't mean to double post, but I just went to the USAA website and you are definitely eligible without being military for their discounts, perhaps they just changed what they were.

Complimentary Hertz #1 Club Gold Membership For Young Renters (age 21 - 24), with no additional fees related to age (requires the use of a the Hertz Gold Family CDP Number when renting):

http://www.hertz.com/goldfamily

Try it, and see if it's a good deal. Then please update this thread with what you find out.

Some of the promotions which waive the young driver fee bundle an equivalent charge in the rental rate.

A Hertz rate using the family CDP rate could be higher then a discounted rate, including the young driver surcharge, with a different agency.

I'll second HHs request for a followup post.

You are not eligible for membership, which is what I was referring to.

You have to be a USAA member for many of the discounts. This thread is about the underage surcharge:

No young driver fees for USAA members ages 18-24 with Hertz and 21-24 with Avis, Budget or Enterprise.

This benefit is explicitly for USAA members.

I fully understand what the word membership means, thanks.

I want to clarify that I am a USAA member, I have never been in the military, I have no family in the military.

I joined last year with now issues and my account is active to date. There is options for everyone with USAA they just don't advertise it well. Head over to flyertalk forums. Someone there explained it well

Not having any luck. Rented a car through Budget with the USAA discount, underage fee was not waved. Best we can find is with Dollar with underage fee it will be $209. Will keep looking.

Yes, you can join if you have no military affiliation, but you are not a full member. You are not eligible for auto or home insurance. Military affiliation = full benefits, no affiliation = limited benefits.

Are you sure that the church's umbrella organization doesn't provide one? Very often, the same organization that creates a group for health insurance purposes will also create group accounts for things like car rentals and hotel discounts to help individual churches manage their overhead expenses.

Most of the time an employer-based discount is going to be created to be used with business daily rates, not leisure rates. Therefore, very often the combined daily rate without the underage fee is still going to be higher than using a leisure rate while paying the fee.

She did say "its a basic membership and you get a membership card etc. You get the underage fee waived, and several other benefits including discounts with budget hertz enterprise or avis."

She did not indicate that it was a full, or deluxe, or anything other than basic membership, and she didn't indicate there were any other benefits but discounts on car rental agencies.

The discount page states that on SOME car classes the fee is waived, and in the same small print mentions that "member" doesn't mean you have access to life or auto insurance.
