Under refurbishment

I am planning a trip to Disney World the first week in December of 2016. We were planning on staying at the Wilderness Lodge and now I notice that it says the hotel will be undergoing refurbishment during that time. Should I be concerned about staying there while the hotel is undergoing refurbishment? We really want to stay there but I am concerned that my family will not like the renovation process. It will be our first trip to Disney World and we are all so excited. Anybody have experience with staying at a resort that is undergoing refurbishment?

Its a great resort, but I would check because last time I was there some of the pool areas were shut down for renovations. Since your going with kids I might consider switching hotels and just go over for a visit. On this website go to Disney rehabs and there you can see everything that will be closed throughout the theme parks and resorts.

Only one pool will be closed during this refurbishment (not the main one).

Since its your first time to WDW I'd recommend going elsewhere so this doesn't impact your overall impression or experience. But if you can roll with it and understand it's not perfect (nor typical), the WL will be fun and beautiful at the holiday season.

However, Dec 2016 is much further into the construction process so it's hard to know right now how bad the environment would be or how far along they'd be by then. Proposed completion sometime in 2017.

They are doing major work at Widerness Lodge. It is going to be of similar level to what went on at the Poly over the past few years. If you have little ones who will still nap at the hotel I would check out another resort. It is suppose to be a long and extensive refurbishment.

The marina, beach, villas pool, night beach a activities and rental bikes will be closed when we're there in January 2016. They are building a new restaurant where the beach is and fairly large vacation club cabins to the right and left of WL wings so depending where their at when you go, this could impact your vacation also.

I would not book WL during the construction. They have already moved guests en masse to other resorts.

I wouldn't stay there for a first trip due to the renovation -- this is not just a room refurbishment or redoing the lobby area -- they are building multiple new buildings on the grounds and the area by the water and docks is going to be significantly impacted.
