We are going on a Western Cruise on December 4. I am trying to find uncle Marvins. Did anyone ever do a tour through Marvins and does anyone know how to contact them? princess: princess: pirate: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

lots of people have used them from these boards. But don't try to reach them now. Grand Cayman was flattened. Who kows when they will be back in business. Their web site is www.captainmarvins.com

I was just speaking to a former co-worker of mine whose son lives in Grand Cayman. The Cayman government is downplaying the extent of the damage due to tourist impact. The island is a write-off. Michael (my friends son) sent his girlfriend up to Canada to live with his mom for a few weeks until things are more stable. The government has asked that all non-cayman women and children leave the island. They is still no power or water. He was able to have a "shower" yesterday during the rain under a broken eavestrough. Very sad and scary time. There are no trees left and the flooding is horrendous. I would suggest that anyone on the next few months cruises do not set your heart on going there. Those poor people have been traumatized and it will be awhile before they recover. :sad1:

This is on another post also but thought you might like to read it:

By the way, the Turtle Farm survived the storm in great shape!

I read on another thread somewhere that the Turtle Farm was gone? Does anyone know which is true for sure?

We had a great tour of the island back in July and just a month ago got our video from the Capt. Marvin tour of Stingray City. It was a wonderful experience playing with the rays. I would recommend it to anyone, when DCL returns to Grand Cayman.

Makes you wonder though, where all the Stingrays went during Hurricane Ivan.

mackymaddyconnorsmom: We did the three hour stingray tour with Captain Marvins in 1997 when we stayed for a week on Cayman Islands. It was absolutely wonderful. It was the main reason we picked the western instead of the eastern.

We, too, will be on the December 4th Magic. We currently have the 3 hour tour booked with Captain Marvins; however, I am looking into the snorkeling excursions at Costa Maya to have all my options open. My children have been practicing snorkeling all summer long and really have been looking forward to swimming with the stingrays as they have watched our video over and over.

There is a website with a webcam of the turtle farm. Since I'm logging onto it now, I don't know if the reason it's not on is because of there being no electricity or if it is just night time. I'm guessing no electricity......

Most of the West Bay area where the Turtle Farm is has no utilites yet. I'd keep an eye on it, but don't expect the webcams up real soon, they have far more pressing needs like fresh water and basic foodstuffs.
