Do you ever give out a recipe and the person you gave it to refuses to believe that you've actually given them the recipe they asked for.
I've done it more times than I can count and it's always because the ingredients are too strange to believe.

Of course, you have the peanut butter cookie recipe.

2 C. peanut butter
2 C. sugar
2 eggs

Mix, plop on pan and flatten with sugared fork. Bake at 350 for the "usual" cookie time.....and Voila'!

Then we have a fruit preparation that people find unbelievable...until they try it.

Fresh strawberries tossed with a small amount of balsamic vinegar AND a drop or two of vanilla.

Do you know any unbelievable, incredible, almost bizarre but TASTY recipies?

**uh...wasn't sure whether I should post this on the recipe board instead, but it seemed more chatty/CB than recipe-ish. LOL

I have a different problem, people will ask me for a recipe and will get mad because I really don't use recipes to cook with. I seldom make things the same way twice and I usually just use what I have on hand and use a recipe as a guide.

I do that too.

My recipe for fettucinni is

a handfull of noodles, some cream, some fresh parmesan, 2-20 teaspoons of basil (yes, 2 - 20 LOL)..........some pepper....whatever...yadda yadda yadda........

I can't give those recipes out because yeah, the people I give it to get mad because there are no amounts given for anything. LOL LOL

I never have that issue because I don't cook.

DH does all of the cooking.

about those cookies....I am having a hard time imagining them...Are they a dry hard cookie, soft and cooey? Or is is more like a brownie....I have to make something tonight and that sure sounds werid but easy!

Thanks for asking! LOL

The cookie is what I would describe as tender. It's a soft cookie and almost hard to get off the pan. Be sure to let it cool for a moment before taking them off the pan.

The dough is delicious as well, if you wanna take the risk of salmonella from the raw eggs.

I think I gave the recipe in the wrong "order".......

Mix the sugar and eggs together first..and then add the peanut butter.

Have fun.......my granddaughter loves to make these ones with me because she thinks it's cool that she has the recipe memorized! LOL

I think they sound wonderful HMG! I may have to try them. :)

I don't know about the vinegar in the berries....sounds really weird....

Now the cookies are a WHOLE different story...LOL!

I don't do much cooking but my mother is the world's best at throwing things together and having them turn out wonderfully!

Thanks Nuke, they are tasty.

Lots of people who need to eat gluten free diets are familiar with this recipe..it's not that unusual really.

Sheesh...maybe this should be moved to the recipe board? LOL

I thought there would be other weird recipes out there....surely I'm not the only one who puts balsamic vinegar and vanilla on her strawberries, am I? (the trick is in the vanilla.......if you forget to put the vanilla on then YUCK....but mix the vanilla and the balsamic and you've got strawberries to die for! guess where the recipe came from?)

:p

I'll second the berries and balsamic. They really are yummy.

If I could eat peanut butter, I'd be trying those cookies too.

I don't just wonder about the proportions in recipes, I often wonder how did someone figure the recipe at all,
I mean, where did someone get the idea to whip egg whites, beat in sugar, and bake it in a cool oven?
THEN, take it out, cool it, put whipped cream on top and layer fruit over the cream?
Pavlova, it's lovely, but how on earth was it invented?

Looks like you use some great websites!

I've seen the strawberry recipe several times but I've been to chicken to try it. I hear it is wonderful. They say the balsamic brings out the sweetness in the strawberries.

I also put balsamic on strawberries, but I've never added in vanilla. (I use this vinegar...it's wonderful! Expensive, but worth every penny.)

Of course, I also add a little bit of fresh cracked pepper. Don't knock it until you've tried it!

The strawberries, vanilla and balsamic vinegar has me intrigued. Can anyone describe the flavor? Is it sweet & sour, puckery sweet, what?
